In this paper, a new contourlet packet (CP) is constructed based on a complete wavelet quadtree followed by a nonsubsampled directional filter bank (NSDFB). By combing the finer approximation characteristic of wavelet packet with the invertible characteristic of NSDFB, the proposed CP can give more accurate reconstruction of images than WP. After the proposed CP transform on the fusing images, the low-frequency subbands are compared to preserve the coefficients whose module are minimum, local inner-product rule is performed on the high-frequency subbands of the images. Then the fusion image can be obtained by taking an inverse CP transform. The experiment results show the superiority of the method to Contourlet, Wavelet packet, NSCT, stationary Wavelet, complex wavelet and WBCP based fusion methods, both in image clarity and standard deviation, information entropy, average gradient, average cross

In this paper, we present a swarm intelligence based algorithm for data clustering. Fuzzy c-Means is used on the clusters formed by the ant for speeding up processing time. This approach is developed for implementation the invariant range image multi-pose face recognition system. This face recognition system is created to function covering pose variation region ±24 degrees up/down and left/right (UDLR) from initial pose. RIFD used in this face recognition is based on 3-D Graphics database. For this advantage, we could solve scale, center and pose error problem by using geometric transform. RIFD obtained from range image sensors will be used for operation by reducing data size. RIFD will be transformed by the gradient transform into significant feature and matching by using membership matching score. The proposed method was tested by using facial range images from 130 persons with normal facial expressions. The recognition rate has to be better than AIMS and k-means.

The Extended Voronoi Transform and the Fast Marching Method combination provide potential maps for robot navigation in previously unexplored dynamic environments. The Logarithm of the Extended Voronoi Transform imitates the repulsive electric potential from walls and obstacles. The method proposed, called Voronoi Fast Marching method, uses a Fast Marching technique on the Extended Voronoi Transform of the environment's image provided by sensors to determine a motion plan. The computational efficiency of the method lets the planner to operate at high rate sensor frequencies. This avoids the need for collision avoidance algorithms. The robot is directed towards the most unexplored and free zones of the environment to be able to explore all the workspace. This method is very fast and reliable and the trajectories are smooth and not very close to obstacles and walls. In this article we propose its application to the exploration task of unknown environments.

In this paper we present a structured light projection system based on the projection of a color coded hexagonal array that is able to obtain range images in moving conditions. Unordered codes are allowed in the color pattern which implies that the mean Hamming distance between contiguous codewords of the pattern increases. As a result, code loss circumstances can be efficiently handled and computational cost in the pattern-image code correspondence phase is highly reduced. This range vision system has been integrated in a robotic cell so a 6 DOF manipulator robot can interact on a set of selected points of the moving scene. The experimentation has been performed on medium resolution range images and for slow controlled movements giving promising results.

Nontraditional transform domain signal processing techniques, applied to two important signal processing areas are given. In the first technique, audio and video signals are represented using the superposition of nonorthogonal basis functions. It is shown that this nontraditional representation yields efficient compression algorithms, i.e., for the same bit rate, higher representation accuracy is achieved, or for the same representation accuracy, lower bit rate is required, relative to previously reported methods. In the second technique, signal autocovariance formulations in the transform domains are presented. It is shown that these formulations yield practical solutions to important signal processing classification and recognition problems. This is because these nontraditional autocovariance formulations result in considerable reduction in the storage requirements and the computational complexity, without sacrificing the signal representation accuracy associated with the traditional autocovariance formulation in the time and/or in the spatial domains.

In this paper, a method which specifies the signboard region and extracts the characters inside the signboard is proposed. We usually take notes not to forget what we should leave to memory. But it is often that the work is too intrusive. Our aim is the development of a new input-interface so as to input texts from a picture. Most of signboards are composed of almost monochromatic region. On the basis of the observation, image segmentation using color information is applied, and then we get some binary images by applying threshold for each segmented region. Each binary image is enclosed by the smallest circumscribed square. The signboard region is specified according to distribution and area of the white pixels inside the square. As a result of experiment, we confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed method.

This paper addresses an effective approach for image reconstruction. An ultra-wideband (UWB) signal is transmitted from an element of an antenna array. Backscattered waveforms collected at each antenna are then processed in frequency domain. Their energy is computed and imaged as a function of location. Simulation results show that localized regions of high energy levels in the image consistently correspond to the object present in the simulation space.

A new intelligent computational paradigm based on the use of dynamical filtering techniques modified to enhance the quality of reconstruction of physical characteristics of environmental electronic maps extracted from the large scale remote sensing imagery is proposed. A robust Kalman filter- based algorithm is developed for the analysis of the dynamic behavior of hydrological indexes extracted from the real-world remotely sensed scenes. The simulation results verify the efficiency of the proposed approach as required for decision support in environmental resources management.

Many dynamical processes can be represented as directed attributed graphs or Petri nets where relationships between various entities are explicitly expressed. signaling networks modeled as Petri nets are one class of such graphical modeling and representations. These networks encode how different protein in specific compartments, interact to create new protein products. Initially, the proteins and rules governing their interactions are curated from literature and then refined with experimental data. Variation in these networks occurs in topological structure, size, and weights associated on edges. Collectively, these variations are quite significant for manual and interactive analysis. Furthermore, as new information is added to these networks, the emergence of new computational models becomes paramount. From this perspective, hierarchical spectral methods are proposed and applied for inferring similarities and dissimilarities from an ensemble of graphs that corresponds to reaction networks. The technique has been implemented and tested on curated signaling networks that are derived for breast cancer cell lines

In human-robot communication it is often important to relate robot sensor readings to concepts used by humans. We believe that access to semantic maps will make it possible for robots to better communicate information to a human operator and vice versa. The main contribution of this paper is a method that fuses data from different sensor modalities, range sensors and vision sensors are considered, to create a probabilistic semantic map of an outdoor environment. The method combines a learned virtual sensor (understood as one or several physical sensors with a dedicated signal processing unit for recognition of real world concepts) for building detection with a standard occupancy map. The virtual sensor is applied on a mobile robot, combining classifications of sub-images from a panoramic view with spatial information (location and orientation of the robot) giving the likely locations of buildings. This information is combined with an occupancy map to calculate a probabilistic semantic map. Our experiments with an outdoor mobile robot show that the method produces semantic maps with correct labeling and an evident distinction between 'building' objects from 'nature' objects.
