With the growing scale of storage system, its requirements of performance, reliability, availability, and security are getting more and more complicated The costs to manage storage systems will keep increasing and finally be higher than the systems themselves if this trend continues. Thus, Intelligent and self-managing systems are required to automatically address the needs of these requirements. The proposed attribute-managed method in this paper describes and classifies the requirements of storage system with attributes, relating the attributes with certain access and storage strategies. Data are accessed and stored with the most appropriate strategies according to attributes pertaining to them. We finally present a prototype of an attribute-managed storage-cluster based on TCP/IP network with extensions to existing protocols and discuss the implementation structure in detail as part of this research.

Peer-to-Peer (P2P) information sharing attracts much attention from both legal and IT communities. P2P architectures have the potential to accelerate communication processes and reduce collaboration costs. A prototype, named vuCRN has been developed for researchers to facilitate document sharing legally.. However, some legal issues are preventing P2P to realise its real power. In this paper, the design processes of our P2P-based collaborative legal information sharing system are introduced. First P2P information sharing architecture and legal issues are described. Then legal concerns and the next stage of the prototype vuCRN are analysed from ontological level, conceptual level and functional level respectively.

Mobile and wireless devices like cell phones and network enhanced PDAs have become increasingly popular in recent years. The security of data transmitted via these devices has become the bottleneck for wireless network. Elliptic curves cryptography (ECC) is especially attractive for devices and is suited for wireless network, which has restrictions of the limited bandwidth, processing power, storage space and power consumption. The efficiency of ECC implementation is highly dependent on the performance of arithmetic operations of scalar multiplication(SM dP, which mainly applied in encryption, signature and protocol. A new signed binary representation (SBR) for integers is proposed, which needs less memory and cost of computation compared to other methods mentioned in this paper. According to analyzing and comparing to other methods, algorithm for computing dP using new SBR is more efficient in window methods and is the simplest for applying in software and hardware. The new SBR needs less computational power and memory and can improve the security of wireless network efficiently.

The rapid increasing of security incidents imposes a great burden on Internet users and system administrators. In this paper we discuss a parallel analysis for lightweight network incident detection using nonlinear adaptive systems. We run AID (anomaly intrusion detection) and MID (misuse intrusion detection) systems in parallel. Two detectors generate binary output misuse = {YES/NO} and anomaly = {YES/NO}. Then, we can determine whether we need to perform network or security operation. We apply clustering algorithm for AID and classification algorithm for MID. The nonlinear adaptive system is trained for running MID and AID in parallel. Proposed parallel system is more lightweight and simple to operate even if the number of incident patterns is increased. Experimental results in the case where false positive is frequently caused show that our method is functional with a recognition rate of attacks less than 10%, while finding the anomaly status. Also, performance evaluation show that proposed system can work with reasonable CPU utilization compared with conventional serial search based system.

For supporting the concurrent access for the hot segments of large files during the peak access phase in Internet, a parallel cache model based on the grid memory (PCMGM) was proposed in this paper. By using of the free memories of the idle computers in dynamic network environment (DNE) composed of multi-clusters, the grid memory was constructed Through the division technique for large files, basing the ability of idle computer, and adopting the multiagent, we discussed the load balance allotting approach for grid memory. The PCMGM access process is described. The experiment results show that PCMGM resolves effectively the problems of peak access for hot segments and it can improve the use rate of resources in DNE. It can be applied for grid computing and VOD for hot segment.

How to satisfy the requirement of high reliability and actualize energy-efficient data transmission in wireless sensor networks is an important problem. After analyzing traditional reliable transfer model of MAC layer, a new Group-based Acknowledgement model, which is efficiency centric, is brought forward to guarantee reliable transfer. Theory analysis shows that this model can reduce redundant information in the data transfer effectively and improve the utilization efficiency of the whole network, which will save lots of energy. And the performance of Group-based Acknowledgement model has been tested through experiment on Micaz platform, which proves that the new model is more suitable for the application of resource limited sensor networks.

We face increasing uncertainty, cheat and risk when executing Grid resource trades, which is taken as a prominent feature of the market-oriented Grid As participants of Grid, we cope with these complexities and uncertainties by relying trust for lacking of enforceable and globally uniform laws for Grid So we propose a Grid resource trade model based on evaluation of trust to assist Grid participants to avoid cheating. The model allows Grid resource consumers (GRCs) to dynamically pay Grid resource providers (GRPs) for resource use of each step by dividing one trade into many steps, that is, "pay as you use". Theoretical analysis and simulations prove that our proposed model can tackle Grid resource trades in a secure and effective way.

Chemical engineering involves the design and manufacturing of new chemical compounds and materials, the analysis of chemical reaction, the simulation of computational fluid dynamics (CFD), and so on. It is complex, time consuming, and expensive. To lower costs and improve efficiency, grid computing is increasingly employed in the chemical engineering. In this paper, we propose a collaborative grid framework for chemical engineering, Chemical Grid based on China Grid Support Platform (CGSP). It provides a grid computing environment for various chemical applications. This paper also describes the architecture of Chemical Grid platform and its security service based on Virtual Organization (VO). At last the applications of Chemical Grid are presented. © 2007 IEEE.

Grid resource management system is regarded as an important component of grid computing. In this paper, a novel abstract owner (AO) resource management model is designed and investigated. Firstly the general architecture model and AO execution mechanism are analyzed, and then a competitive auction mechanism utilized in market -driven economics proverbially is introduced into the ordinary AO resource management model to adapt the dynamic and scattered resource characteristics. Furthermore, a resource management prototype system developing client broker and multi-auctioneer is designed and implemented as a solution for resource complexity and scheduling bottleneck. On one hand, the advanced AO resource management model can manage grid resources more effectively and improve the resource discovery and selection performance significantly. On the other hand, the dishonest auctioneer' fraud action as well as user's partnership fraud action can be prevented from in AO resource management model depending on multi-auctioneer. Finally, some related algorithms for the new auction framework are proposed correspondingly to realize the architecture model.

Communication link evaluation plays an important role in the design of upper layer protocols for wireless sensor networks. The paper firstly investigates the existing typical link evaluation metrics in wireless sensor networks based on the platform of MicaZ, then takes packet reception rate as the evaluation metric to experimentally study the characteristics Of communication link, and according to the statistic analysis of large amount of sampling values, a link evaluation model based on Gauss distribution is brought forward and validated by the tests. This research is expansible, therefore, the established link evaluation model can provide guidance for application, and also can provide valuable references for the simulation research of upper layer protocols.
