Selfish adaptive peers are widespread in Peer to Peer(P2P) file sharing systems, whose actions greatly reduce the system's performance. So how to maintain significant levels of cooperation to encourage collaborative is an important aspect of P2P research. In this paper, the cooperation models of P2P file sharing systems are constructed based on the Prisoner's Dilemma Game (PDG) and the Snowdrift Game (SG), which add a new viewpoint to P2P file sharing systems understanding. In particular the performances of the two models are investigated in three aspects: the frequency of cooperation, the equilibrium -time, and the full completion time, which indicate that both the PDG and the SG can effectively motive cooperation against free riding. In addition, the SG performs better than the PDG in promoting peers to share what they have, which suggests theoretic guidelines to design a good incentive mechanism in the future.

One of the most important constraints in wireless sensor networks is the energy efficiency problem. To maximize the wireless sensor networks lifetime after the sensor nodes deployment, Dynamic Power Management (DPM) should be carefully taken into account in wireless sensor networks. The goal of DPM is to reduce power dissipation by putting the sensor node into different states. In this paper, a new method of DPM based on wavelet neural networks is proposed to conserve energy. There are two salient aspects to this approach. First, the next event's time which is a non-stationary series is predicted as accurate as possible by wavelet neural networks. Nodes in deeper sleep states consume lower energy while asleep, but incur a longer delay and higher energy cost to awaken. Second, the nodes state in which lie wireless sensor network should lie is decided through the predictable time associated with the threshold time, residual power. The simulation results show that the energy consumption is significantly reduced and the whole lifetime of the wireless sensor networks is greatly prolonged through the proposed method.

The new video compression method recognition-oriented is discussed using wavelet analysis on the basis of the characteristics of wireless automatic surveillance network. The characteristics of surveillance network are narrowband for video communication and need lower cost in the terminals because of the quantity. A new method is proposed in this paper for narrowband network, such as wireless network. The innovation of the method is that low-frequency parameters of wavelet transform that are used in classical compression method are not used, while the high-frequency parameters are used for the purpose of target recognition. This is done by emphasizing high frequency components and discarding low frequency components according to a new developed recognition-based approach for image compression. Computer simulation experiments show that high-frequency parameters can lower the bit rate, having good compression ratio, and has higher practical value for target recognition in surveillance system.

Welcome to the proceedings of the 2007ifipinternationalconference on network and parallelcomputing (npc2007) held in Dalian, China. npc has been a premier conference that has brought together researchers and pr- titioners from academia, industry and governments around the world to advance the theories and technologies of network and parallelcomputing. The goal of npc is to establish an international forum for researchers and practitioners to present their - cellent ideas and experiences in all system fields of network and parallelcomputing. The main focus of npc 2007 was on the most critical areas of network and parallelcomputing: network applications, network technologies, network and parallel arc- tectures, and parallel and distributed software. In total, the conference received more than 600 papers from researchers and prac- tioners from over 20 countries and areas. Each paper was reviewed by at least three internationally renowned referees and selected based on its originality, significance, correctness, relevance, and clarity of presentation. Among the high-quality subm- sions, only 53 regular papers were accepted by the conference. All of the selected conference papers are included in the conference proceedings. After the conference, some high-quality papers will be recommended to be published in a special issue of several international journals.
