A novel method to improve the separation performance and the convergence speed of fast independent vector analysis (FastIVA) for frequency domain operation is proposed. In this paper, a mixture of super Gaussian distributions is adopted as a source prior for the FastIVA algorithm. In this mixed source prior, a Student's t distribution is adopted to model the high amplitude information in the spectrum of a speech signal and another super Gaussian distribution with less heavy tails is used to model the rest of the information. Moreover, in the proposed mixed source prior the weight of both distributions can be varied according to the frequency dependent amplitude of the speech signals. The performance of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated by using the imaging method and binaural room impulse responses and comparison is made with the FastIVA using the original super Gaussian source prior. © 2016 ieee.

Modern frequency division duplex radio frequency transceivers experience transmitter-to-receiver leakage due to the limited isolation of the duplexer. In Long Term Evolution-Advanced (LTE-A) carrier aggregation receivers the coupling between the local oscillators creates harmonics on the chip which can lead to the downconversion of this leakage signal to the receive (Rx) baseband. Thereby, this so-called modulated spur interference reduces the signal-to-noise ratio of the Rx signal. In this paper, the modulated spur interference is modeled and several adaptive algorithms are compared regarding their convergence and cancelation performance. To maximize the data throughput, the adaptive filter is required to converge within the short time period of one orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol. Out of the investigated concepts the proposed variable step-size least-mean-square algorithm turns out to be the most favorable choice. It satisfies the required constraints of convergence time and cancelation performance, and it features a reasonable low complexity. © 2016 ieee.

This paper presents a privacy preserving approach to decentralized state estimation in multi-area power systems. By formulating state estimation as a model-distributed regularized least-squares (MDRLS) problem, we ensure that the state variables and system matrix of each area are hidden from all other areas in order to protect privacy and sensitive information. We present a scheme that solves the primal MDRLS problem using the alternating direction method of multipliers, and a second method that solves the dual problem using a distributed form of the coordinate descent algorithm. Only information related to current measurements on tie-lines linking neighboring areas is exchanged between those areas. The proposed schemes enable the local state estimator in each area to estimate the voltage magnitude and phase angle of each bus in its own control area from phasor measurement units (PMU) without the need for full local PMU-observability. The novelty of the proposed methods is in that they employ the inherently hierarchical architecture of the wide-area monitoring system to perform decentralized state estimation. Our simulation results show that the estimation error of both methods converges to that of the centralized approach. © 2016 ieee.

This paper introduces the array-based Compressed sensing Receiver Architecture (ACRA). ACRA allows digital receiver arrays to operate at dramatically larger instantaneous bandwidths by sampling the signals from different array elements at different sub-Nyquist sampling rates. signal processing inspired by the sparse fast Fourier transform allows for signal detection, estimation, and angle-of-arrival determination. Simulation results and measurements from an 18-45 GHz testbed are presented.

We propose to use the power spectral density (PSD) matrices of the received signals of a multi-sensor system as the feature of processing. PSD matrices have structural constraints and they form a manifold in signal space. We introduce two new Riemannian distance (RD) measures on the PSD matrix manifold and developed algorithms to locate the means and medians of PSD matrices in terms of these RD. These concepts are then applied to the detection of narrow-band sonar signals in noise and the results are encouraging.

We analytically evaluate the impact of a mismatch in the signal steering vector on the detection performance of a constant false alarm rate matched filter (CFAR-MF) in white Gaussian noise with unknown noise power. An infinite-sum expression for the detection probability of the CFAR-MF is derived in the mismatched case where the nominal signal steering vector is not aligned with the actual one. This theoretical result is verified using Monte Carlo simulations.

In this paper we aim to blindly calibrate a mobile sensor network whose sensor outputs and the sensed phenomenon are linked by a polynomial relationship. The proposed approach is based on a novel informed semi-nonnegative matrix factorization with a Vandermonde factor matrix. The proposed approach outperforms a matrix-completion-based method in a crowdsensing-like simulation of particulate matter sensing.

In array processing, compressive sensing (CS) has recently emerged as a new sampling paradigm for estimating the direction-of-arrival (DOA) from a relatively small number of observations. The paper derives an analytical expression for the mutual coherence of the CS dictionary for a single-input, multiple output (SIMO) radar to advocate the consideration of incoherency issues by researchers exploring potential gains with CS. We couple time reversal (TR) with the Cs/SIMO radar to illustrate a possible increase in the incoherency of the CS dictionary with time reversal.

A method is proposed for reducing the effect of white noise in wideband uniform linear arrays via a combination of a judiciously designed transformation followed by highpass filters. The reduced noise level leads to a higher signal to noise ratio for the system, which can have a significant effect on the performance of various direction of arrival (DOA) estimation methods. As a representative example, the compressive sensing-based wideband DOA estimation method is employed here to demonstrate the improved estimation performance, this is confirmed by simulation results.

In this work, we detail an ℓ 1 -norm Linearly Constrained Affine Projection Algorithm (ℓ 1 -CAPA) to be employed in solving problems whose solutions have some degree of sparsity, such as in beamforming or when dealing with sparse communication channels. The effectiveness of this algorithm, in terms of MSE and convergence rate, is demonstrated via computer simulations.
