Objectives:Published literature on Asian perception of aesthetics is *** study aims to assess the aesthetic perception of nasal and chin profiles amongst Hong Kong Chinese,and compare them to Western standards. Study design:Prospective clinical study Methods:Four volunteers(2 males and 2 females) were asked to alter their nasal and chin photographed profiles,with an image-altering software,to achieve their best aesthetically pleasing image.A panel of judges(5 males & 5 females) were asked to perform the exact task individually and again within a same-gender judging *** preferred nasal and chin profiles were analysed and compared to Western references. Results:There was a high concordance of preferred nasal and chin profiles between volunteers, individual judges and gender-judging *** differences of certain aesthetic angles were noted when compared to Western *** aesthetic preferred angles would clinically translate to having a higher radix,a down- rotated nasal tip and a more projected nasal tip. Conclusion:Our study investigating Asian aesthetic perception demonstrates concordance between subjects and their local *** certain profiles,there were significant differences to Western *** suggests that Western facial profile references do not wholly apply to the Asian Chinese face.
