The computer numerical control (CNC) machine tool was investigated and the dynamics model for the servo feed system was established. Based on the fixing constraint of the ball screw, the mathematical models of axial stiffness and torsion stiffness are constructed. According to the effects of stiffness on the dynamic performance, the simulation model for CNC machine tool feed system with stiffness considered was set up by the dynamic simulation tool Simulink, and a curve representing the performance of the system was obtained. To reduce the effect of stiffness on the system, the feedforward control strategy is used for stiffness compensation. The simulation results show that the stability and response performances of the system are improved and the steady-state error of the system is reduced by the control strategy.

computer modeling is now widely used to predict how effective cathodic protection (CP) systems are at protecting structures and maritime vessels There are two types of CP systems based on either sacrificial anodes or impressed anodes (ICCP) or some combination of the two types Impressed anodes are often referred to as "active' systems as they can respond to changes in the protection requirements as they are connected to some form of control system Typically in computer models ICCP anodes are controlled by specifying the current they output in response to the potential measured at a reference electrode In this paper an alternative approach has been investigated where the model also includes the power supply as well as the associated cables etc connecting to the anodes This enables us to more accurately model situations where any number of anodes are connected to a single power supply, anode/reference electrode (RE) failure scenarios, non symmetric anode layouts, localized damage to coatings and situations where there are significant appendages to the vessel which change the current requirements The paper will describe the technical approach to the modeling and present examples of modeling of a commercial FPSO vessel (Floating, Production, Storage and Offloading vessels are used in the Oil & Gas industry typically as part of deepwater developments) The benefits of the proposed approach compared with the conventional approach will be presented and the results critically analyzed

A new approach is proposed in this paper that describes the development of flexible rolling technology in industrial processing of C - Mn and Low C - microalloyed steels. Scientific knowledge of industrially-significant processes for these materials is presently fragmented and scattered in published literature, which causes impediment to process innovation and optimization. In the current work, it is demonstrated that new process sequences could be developed by breaking down existing process routes in to key elements and then by recombining them to generate novel alternative and more efficient hot processing sequences. The proposed methodology establishes a platform for a more realistic assessment of existing process routes and the development of new hybrid process routes that combine ideas from alternative processes. This enables the identification of an optimal process sequence for specified steel compositions that also satisfies simultaneous design criteria such as process feasibility and property maximization. Application of the proposed algorithm in industrial-scale rod rolling of a medium C-Mn steel is demonstrated and discussed.

In this work, a new model for predicting the dynamic behavior of the milling process is developed. modeling of the discontinuous culling forces now takes into account the motion of the cutting tool. The chip thickness is determined by using a search algorithm at each simulation step that determines when the tool cutting edge is in contact with the work piece and how far below the surface the cutting edge is. This new model has lead to a new, more precise, understanding of the stability of the dynamic milling system. For example, the new model is able to predict hysteresis effects in the point at which stability bifurcations occur The bifurcation point depends on the direction of the change of the control parameter, depth of cut. The hysteresis effect was first seen in experimental results. The model details are presented with the aid programming flow charts. simulation results show that the tool motion is unstable at large depth of cut and becomes stable as the depth of cut is slowly decreased. If the simulation begins with a small depth of cut stable behavior is exhibited. As the depth of cut slowly increases, the behavior becomes unstable. The depth of cut parameter value at which the bifurcation occurs depends on whether the depth of cut is increasing or decreasing. simulation results show that an impulse can be given to the simulation to cause the system to jump from one attractor to another.

Finding optimal trajectory is critical in several applications for robots from payload transport between two given states in a prescribed time such that a cost functional is minimized. This paper is concerned with the path planning of flexible robotic arms in point-to-point motion, based on indirect solution of optimal control problem. Dynamic modelling technique based on the combined Euler-Lagrange formulation and assumed modes method is applied, then by implementing the Pontryagin's minimum principle;necessary conditions for optimality are derived. Nonlinear states and control constraints are treated without any simplifications or transforming them into sequences of systems with linear equations. By these means, the modelling of the complete optimal control problem and the accompanying boundary value problem is automated to a great extent. Finally, the performance of method is illustrated through the computer simulations.

Regression models have been defined with the help of case studies, carried out for residential and commercial buildings in Sweden, for energy consumption patterns and predictions. Regression models are used as an input to Monte Carlo simulation technique to carry out energy predictions and future energy demand and supply patterns. Model is developed on the basis of historical data for four years: 2006 to 2009. Aim is to analyze the regression models for long term forecasting of monthly energy consumption patterns. The predicted models can assist the companies for making decisions of energy demand/supply plans. © 2010 IEEE.

The miniaturization of metallic and ceramic molded components is limited by technological restrictions in conventional manufacturing techniques. Thus shape and material deviations cannot be scaled down in the same proportion as the micro parts Systems including such components should be designed to accommodate the individual component's wide geometrical variation and usually require large clearance. A study of the effects introduced thereby is needed to understand the system's limits and to be able to forecast their output's performance. To save time and resources, costly prototypes and test runs should be avoided in favour of computer simulation. The method proposed by the authors is exemplified on a micro technology demonstrator system developed by the Collaborative Research Center 499 It consists of a one stage planetary gear train in a sun-planet-ring configuration. The simulation procedure relics on ordinary Multi Body simulation methods and subsequently adds other techniques to further investigate details of the system's behaviour and to predict it's response. In order to quantify the variability and to reveal the most critical points of the system, a whole-mechanism Sensitivity Analysis is performed. A reduced set of relevant parameters could be derived for further investigation and to feed a final optimization process, whether as optimization parameters or as external perturbation collective. The lack of previous knowledge about the system forced different DOE methods, involving small and large amount of experiments, to be tested. In this particular case the parameter space can be divided into two well defined groups, one of them containing the gear's profile information and the other the components' spatial location. This has been exploited to explore the different DOE techniques more promptly. Comparison and an analysis of the most successful DOE methods is included. The survivability of a node is dependent upon detecting threats that aim to reduce the capability of the node or the underlying software components. Any node is made up a myriad of software components, where each can potentially cripple the operations of the node. To address the security of the node, it is then crucial to determine the susceptibility of the underlying software components. Traditional protection systems like firewalls and intrusion detection systems (IDS), focus on high-level abstractions of the system. They fail to address the concerns of specific targeted attacks on the underlying software components. For this reason, we are developing a security system that profiles the individual software components, and monitors for threats specific to the vulnerabilities present in those components. This paper presents the research that has been conducted towards the creation of a unified analysis framework. We identify multiple open-source software analyzers, commercial approaches, and those based in literature. We then determine the methodology of the approaches and identify the characteristics adopt. Furthermore, we then identify the areas that are not addressed already, and incorporate them into the unified analysis framework. We present our analysis framework as a software architecture model using the latest version of the Department of Defense Architecture Framework (DoDAF), version 2.0.

Virtual reality technology plays an important role in the fields of product design, computer animation, medical simulation, cloth motion, and many others Especially with the emergence of haptics technology, virtual simulation system provides an intuitive way of human and computer interaction, which allows user to feel and touch the virtual environment For a real-time simulation system, a physically based deformable model Including complex material properties with a high resolution is required However, such deformable model hardly satisfies the update rate of interactive haptic rendering that exceeds 1 kHz To tackle this challenge, a real-time volumetric model with haptic feedback is developed in this paper This model, named as Adaptive S-chain model, extends the S-chain model and integrates the energy-based wave propagation method by the proposed adaptive re-mesh method to achieve realistic graphic and haptic deformation results The implemented results show that the nonlinear, heterogeneous, anisotropic, shape retaining material properties and large range deformation are well modeled An accurate force feedback is generated by the proposed Adaptive S-chain model in case study which is quite close to the experiment data

The Ground Systems (GS) business unit of BAE Systems Inc. develops and manufactures major ground combat vehicles for military. Because the development of ground-based combat vehicles is a complex process, it requires the coordinated effort of multiple engineering disciplines that include human factor engineering (HFE), product design, as well as modeling and simulation (M&S), to perform design analysis and to predict vehicle performance. In order to increase engineering efficiency and to reduce product development costs, GS has developed a virtual prototyping technology. Using this technology, it enables GS to perform vehicle design and requirement validation in a virtual environment prior to expensive and time consuming hardware prototyping. This technology also enables GS customers to be more involved in the product development cycle and makes the product development process more customer-centric. The development of this virtual environment requires integration of various technologies, including multibody dynamics, 3D computer graphics, networking, modeling and simulation, and the human-machine interface design. This paper describes how multibody system simulations are used in this virtual environment to support GS vehicle design in the areas of crew visibility studies, crew station design, vehicle interference checking, and electrical power management simulation.
