The advancement of technology of laser pattern generators needs to meet demands of the rapid product development pace in the display and semiconductor markets. A hypothesis is that efficiency in the development process of complex systems can be improved by introducing a higher level programming approach. This will make a model and simulation based development (MBD) strategy more easy to adapt leading to 1) higher technical performance at shorter development time from idea to product introduction phase, 2) lower cost of goods, 3) shorter production-, installations- & upgrade time and 4) possibility of very efficient field support & service, etc. The success of an MBD approach is dependent on the simulation software capability to express the behavior of a real system. Consequently, as a first step towards an MBD approach, the investigation covers a pilot-study where results from simulations are compared to an existing controlled system.

The development of two generations of a one-dimensional gamma mapping system is described. These systems use high-Z shielding, linear stage, and a high-purity germanium detector. Application to items of forensic interest is described and results for such items are presented. The presented results show the fission product ((137)Cs) and activation product ((60)Co) distributions along one-dimension of an archival item.

In this paper, we propose image enhancement of microarray images using histogram specification method. The proposed approach consists of system model that discuss about finding the type of noise present in the image and enhancing image by removing the noise present in the image. The proposed method is very efficient as it enhances image by revealing most of the microarray spots which is used for subsequent stages of microarray analysis. Performance analysis is done to measure the efficiency by which image is enhanced. The algorithm uses peak signal to noise ratio and mean squared error to quantify the degree of degradation.

The purpose of this study was to assess the attitudes toward information and communication technology (ICT) of adult students undertaking further studies through the medium of electronic distance learning. Attitudes were studied in an attempt to ascertain factors such as anxiety, confidence, liking and, usefulness at the diploma and undergraduate levels. A total of 500 adult students at various stages of study from diploma to undergraduate degrees participated in this research. The response rate was 56.8%. The instrument used is a replicated questionnaire designed by Loyd and Gressard 1988. Prior permission was granted for the use of the questionnaire which consisted of solicited demographic variables and 40 attitude-based statement. The statements were structured on a scale of one to five. Parametric and non-parametric analyses were executed by using SPSS. The results suggested that the adult students exhibited positive attitudes toward ICT in terms of usefulness and liking, but, semblances of low confidence and anxiety were also evidenced in the statistics.

Pearl's color is an important feature to assess its value, including the hue and its color depth. A method for pearl color classification was investigated in this paper. computer Vision is used to process the pearl image after transforming it from RGB to HSV color model, which can show the hue and color depth information of pearl. According to the histogram of V (Value) weight, the bright area is extracted by Ostu Segmentation and the average value of H (Hue) and S (saturation) are obtained. Aiming at the standards of hue classification, the artificial neural network method based on RPROP Algorithm is adopted; Aiming at the color depth`s difference, Fuzzy C-means Clustering Algorithm is adopted to classify the average value of S. The proposed method can be used for the first classification according to the surface color of pearl and further classification according to the saturation of pearl in the same color series and realizing the standard classification of pearl quality.

We present an accelerated depth peeling algorithm for order-independent transparency rendering on graphics hardware. Unlike traditional depth peeling which only peels one layer of transparent pixels per rendering pass, our algorithm peels multiple layers simultaneously per rendering pass. Our acceleration is achieved via our fragment program which sorts and writes multiple fragment colors and depths via MRT. A notable :feature of our algorithm is that it is robust against the unreliable parallel read-after-write behavior in current graphics hardware, guaranteeing correct transparency ordering. For ordinary scenes rendered under RGBA8 color precision, we achieve up to 8 x speed-up over conventional depth peeling with current generation graphics hardware. Our algorithm is simple to implement on current GPU without any hardware modification. In addition, it does not require applications to perform any pre-sorting of transparent geometry.
