This paper presents a meta-model to describe the development process of mobile learning initiatives. These initiatives are often small scale trials that are not integrated in the intended setting, but carried out outside of the setting. This results in sustainability issues, i.e., problems to integrate the results of the initiative as learning aids. "In order to address the sustainability issues, and in turn help to understand the scaling process, a meta-model is introduced. This meta-model divides the development into four areas of concern, and the life cycle of any mobile learning initiative into four stages. The meta-model was developed by analyzing and describing how a podcasting initiative was developed, and is currently being evaluated as a tool to both describe and evaluate mobile learning initiatives. The meta-model was developed based on a mobile learning initiative, but the meta-model itself is extendible to other forms of technology-enhanced learning.

computer-aided highly efficient electromagnetic particle-in-cell (PIC) (CHIPIC) code, developed at the University of Electronic Science and technology of China, is a fully computer-aided code which combines modeling, calculations, and analysis with an integrated environment. CHIPIC is specifically designed for efficient modeling and simulation. CHIPIC includes a computer-aided design (CAD) system and a physical kernel. The CAD system is designed based on the common flowchart of PIC simulation to provide efficient modeling and analysis, and the physical kernel is developed to provide fast and accurate calculations. The physical kernel can run on a single processor or in parallel mode. When it runs in parallel mode, the message-pass interface and open specifications for multiprocessing are adopted. The validity of this electromagnetic PIC code is proved by simulating a magnetically insulated transmission-line-oscillator tube.

The quickly development of the multi-core technology brings plenty of logical processors to the symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) system. As all of cores share the same system bus and memory bandwidth, the additional computing resources can't fully play their roles. It is the basic restrict to the scalability of such a system. Furthermore, the operating system which runs in this system typically provides complex abstractions implemented over shared data structures protected by locks. More contentions come along with the increase of cores in such type of kernel. After several detailed experiments to 5 different types of benchmarks, we recognize these problems in the multi-core SMP system. At last, reasons causing the problems are analyzed and corresponding solutions are raised briefly.

One of the main parts of peer-to-peer multicast is the structure of overlay network. Most of the existing works utilize some common parameters for constructing overlay tree. These parameters are bandwidth and delay. The mismatch between current overlay structure and underlying network topology causes severe link stress and then leads to high end to end latency. According to these problems, we propose a new overlay construction algorithm called OLT in this paper that finds the location of peers and tries to connect peers that are as close as possible. OLT exploits a number of heuristic techniques to reach an optimized tree even in case of peer heterogeneity and high churn rate. Our simulations show that OLT reduces link stress and latency because it constructs a logical tree more compatible to physical network than the existing algorithms.
