The paper presents a theoretical study of the heat transfer and thermodynamic performance for a rotary magnetic refrigerator with an active magnetic regenerator (AMR). The theoretical models were proposed for the refrigerator with AMR using two different kinds of heat transfer channel designs, one is packed gadolinium bed with porous magnetic materials, and another is packed gadolinium bed with micro heat pipe. Numerical results reveal heat transfer performance of AMR which is installed micro heat pipe is better than AMR which is packed with porous material. It shows that heat transfer increases with heat pipe numbers, low rotary frequencies are beneficial to heat transfer both in magnetization and demagnetization processes, but low rotary frequencies limits the output power of refrigerator, so the optimized rotary frequency is 10-15 rev. /minute. It has also been detected that the boundary layer in heat transfer fluid is seriously affected by the micro heat pipe location for larger convection coefficient conditions.

This paper presents a new adaptive and dynamic routing algorithm called AAODV for mobile ad hoc networks inspired by Ant Colony Optimization algorithms. This algorithm is proposed by maintaining the nature of the Ad hoc On-demand Distance Vector (AODV) routing through the use of Ant Colony Optimization. AAODV maintains the on-demand nature of AODV but works in an adaptive manner. It does not send any Route Request packet that AODV does. Rather it identifies its paths with the feedback of previously traveled packets and updates and maintains the paths accordingly. This routing technique is a probabilistic adaptive technique that can change its route with the change of network topology by learning the environment. We evaluate AAODV algorithm by comparing it to AODV. Our simulations show that the AAODV algorithm provides better performance in average delay, packet loss, bandwidth overhead, and throughput than the AODV algorithm.

Electronic community (e-community) has been a vital platform among members of a special interest group (SIG). Compared to other interest groups, technical SIG groups require more beneficial communications and materials to be shared among the members. However, they may encounter a lot of challenges to draw the interest among the members in sharing their knowledge voluntarily. A lot of knowledge sharing researches focuses on how to develop a knowledge sharing system. Hence, they overlook the need to integrate social aspects in the design of such systems. As the result, the systems face inactive participants among the members. In fact, the most crucial part of developing such online communities is on how to encourage users to contribute and share their knowledge. We must discover the underlying problems on why the users are reluctant to share their knowledge through the knowledge sharing system. This paper discusses the survey conducted in order to gain users' perspectives towards such systems for SIG.

Arabic text recognition offers unique technical challenges and has been addressed more recently in the document analysis research field than other languages. Automatic Arabic/Indian numeral Optical Character Recognition (OCR) system for postal services are used in many countries, but still there are problems in such systems where machines still provide errors in reading the crucial information needed to distribute the mail efficiently. The need to investigate fast and efficient recognition methods is important so as to correctly read the postal codes from mail envelopes. The significance of this study is to recognize essential information, e.g., postal codes from the mail envelopes, by applying the OCR methods. The proposed system is a hybrid of three different feature extraction methods and classification methods. The proposed system, systematically compares the performance of each and every method, and makes sure that the numeral is recognized or rejected. The results provide a recognition rate of 99.4%.

As modern computers become even more powerful, scientists continue to be challenged to use machines effectively for tasks that are relatively simple for humans. Based on examples, together with some feedback from a "teacher", we learn easily to recognize the letter A or distinguish a cat from a bird. More experience allows us to refine our responses and improve our performance. Although eventually, we may be able to describe rules by which we can make more decisions, these do not necessarily reflect the actual process we use. Even without a teacher we can group similar patterns together. Yet another common human activity is trying to achieve a goal that involves maximizing a resource (time with one's family, for example) while satisfying certain constraints (such as need to earn a living). Each of these types of problems illustrates tasks for which computer solutions may be sought. Traditional, sequential, logic based digital computing excels in many areas, but has been less successful for other types of problems.
