Credit risk analysis is an important topic in the financial risk management. Due to recent financial crises, credit risk analysis has been the major focus of financial and banking industry. An accurate estimation of credit risk could be transformed into a more efficient use of economic capital. Existing models for estimating credit risk are not semantics-based. The objective of this work was to design an intelligent web portal to serve as service provider for credit risk analysis. The portal has been conceived to help users (e.g. credit managers working in banks) to detect bad payers. For this purpose, the knowledge of the financial domain has been represented by means of ontology, which has been used to guide the design of the application and to supply the system with semantic capabilities. The reasoning engine of the proposed system executes logic rules related with well-established financial variables. These rules characterize that a payer tends to become a bad one or not.

Over the past decade, tabletop systems are becoming more popular. However, prior works on tabletop system have mostly focused on supporting user interactions with digital contents on one single tabletop display, which are not easily extendable. In this paper we present a new scalable distributed tabletop system consisted of master/slave computer and tangible interfaces to provide high-resolution interactive tabletop display surfaces. Our work is to develop a tabletop system constructed with LCD panels and a cluster of low-cost commodity PCs to support a large high-resolution scalable tiled display. It also employs the tangible user interface using the infrared camera tracking and tangible blocks to support intuitive user interaction on the tabletop surface. In this research, EBITA (Environment for Building Interactive Tangible Applications) framework is developed to support various modules necessary for easy construction of any interactive high-resolution applications that run on the distributed tabletop system. This paper briefly describes the design of EBITA framework and detail implementations of the current prototype of distributed tabletop system. Then it demonstrates two applications developed using EBITA framework: 2D high-resolution image viewer and 3D block crash game.

We have developed computer environments that support learning by teaching, concept mapping, scaffolding, and the use of self regulated learning (SRL) skills by social interactions with virtual agents. More specifically, students teach a computer agent, Betty, and can monitor her progress by asking her questions and getting her to take quizzes. The system provides SRL support via dialog-embedded prompts. Our primary goals have been to support learning in complex science domains and facilitate development of self-regulated learning skills. Our analyses have identified actions such as "asking queries" and "tracing explanations" as key self-regulation strategies that promote learning.

An adaptable platform for the development of customized ATE and test-support modules is described. The purpose of the platform is to provide a hardware framework for assembling combinations of specialized test modules for applications that are not well addressed by conventional general-purpose ATE alone. The platform can also be used to test, characterize, and calibrate individual modules prior to use within either a platform-based application or within a traditional ATE environment. The paper describes some of the salient features of the platform and one completed example for an all-optical packet-switching network called "Data Vortex" operating at 2.5Gbps on each of 18 channels (>40Gbps aggregate burst data rate). Two other example modules demonstrate even higher data rates. One is a dual-channel, bidirectional 5Gbps FPGA-based module with loopback, jitter-injection, and 2:1 XOR multiplexing (up to 10Gbps). This module exploits recent advances in FPGA technology that enable very high data rates at relatively low cost. Another example module synthesizes two 10Gbps data streams using 16:1 SiGe serializers;and then combines these using an InP XOR gate to form a 20Gbps test stimulus channel. While the platform and modules have interesting characteristics, individually they do not form a complete solution. However the various possible combinations, together with special-purpose modules, may help solve some of the most difficult test applications in the near future. Therefore, this paper tries to present the key features in a way that the reader may extrapolate to future test challenges.

This paper investigates the feasibility of building muscle-computer interfaces starting from surface Electromyography (SEMG) -based neck and shoulder motion recognition. In order to reach the research goal, a real-time SEMG sensing, processing and classification system was developed firstly. Then two types of SEMG recognition experiments, namely user-specific and user-independent classification, were designed and conducted on seven kinds of neck and shoulder motions to explore the feasibility of using these motions as input commands of muscle-computer interfaces. In all 9 subjects took part in these experiments, 97.8% and 84.6% overall average recognition accuracies were obtained in user-specific and user-independent experiments respectively. The experimental results demonstrate that it is possible to build muscle-computer interfaces with neck and shoulder motions. In addition, the results of cross-time experiments designed to explore the relationship between training and accuracy in user-specific recognition indicate that users can interact accurately with computers using the defined motions only after four times training in different days.

This paper reports assessment results of a four-year interdisciplinary research project with the goal to design and test a web-based software environment for real-time, applied programming for underrepresented students' early literacy (RAPUNSEL). The study presented here assessed the impact of the resulting computer game environment called Peeps, which was designed to afford girls with opportunities to develop computer programming skills in a setting where programming was not an end in itself but a means to achieve goals that were relevant and meaningful to the players and facilitate safe ways to learn through error. A pre-post survey study with 59 participants found increases in students' general self-efficacy, self-esteem, computer self-efficacy, and programming self-efficacy. Implications for educators and game designers and future development plans will be discussed during the presentation.
