Sink mobility brings new challenges to densely deployed and large wireless sensor network. When the sink moves, frequent location updates from the sink can generate excessive power consumption of sensors. In this paper, we propose OAR, an optimized agent-based routing protocol that provides efficient data delivery to mobile sink. Proposed algorithm reduces signaling overhead and improve degraded route called triangular routing problem. We have evaluated OAR performance through both analysis and simulation experiments. The results show that our scheme effectively supports sink mobility with low overhead and the improvement of triangular routing problem.

A completely new scheme for quaternary logic is proposed. Instead of conventional fuzzy logic or Galois Field theory, the logic system is based on the extension of Boolean algebra. The logic is capable of handling both quaternary and coupled-binary inputs, where binary operands are coupled in pairs to form quaternary entities. All necessary operators are defined and several theorems and properties are derived to develop a way of expressing arbitrary truth tables with sum-of-product functions. To demonstrate the functionality of this novel logic scheme, some useful logic blocks such as decoder, multiplexer, and half-adder are designed.

This paper investigates impact of noise and signal averaging on patient control in anesthesia applications in wireless connected systems. Such systems involve communication channels which introduce noises due to quantization, channel noises, and have limited communication bandwidth resources. Usually signal averaging can be used effectively in reducing noise effects when remote monitoring and diagnosis are involved. However, when feedback is intended, we show that signal averaging will lose its utility substantially. To explain this phenomenon, we analyze stability margins under signal averaging and derive some optimal strategies for selecting windows size. A typical case of anesthesia depth control problems is used in this development.

One of the outstanding ways of enhancing human capital development is rooted in collaboration and leadership. No enterprise can make progress in whatever its endeavor if collaboration and leadership is poorly addressed (Jeston and Nelis, 2008). Collaboration is needed in every sectors of life (family affairs, educational accomplishments…). Collaboration may be horizontal (as in play groups) or horizontal (as in teacher to student relationship). Leadership can exist both in horizontal or vertical collaboration. The question at the heart of this work is: How can leadership in collaboration be characterized and explored to enhance human resource sharing? To answer this question, leadership attainment, collaboration typologies and leadership style were used to propose a model in a second order collaborative environment. Collaboration is deemed to produce contributions that can be personalized and shared contributions. Shared contribution is stored in a digital form for its global access.

Determining the number of computers to be purchased in order to achieve an optimum relation between access waiting time and server idleness, is a problem frequently encountered by library supervisors due to rapid development of informatics. In an attempt to solve this problem, in our research we applied a simulation queuing model, as well as an aspiration level model, as its extension. Simulation sets whose expected waiting time in system and idleness do not show statistically significant differences were identified in the paper by the analysis of variance and post hoc comparisons. The initial model was improved by this usage of inferential statistics methods, thus raising the decision-making efficiency in library management.

Topology control is one of the most important energy-saving techniques used in wireless sensor networks. It has evolved into two dominant research directions: power control and sleep scheduling. Although many topology control algorithms and protocols are claimed to be highly energy-efficient, this is not necessarily the case in real systems due to various isolated considerations. In this paper, based on a simple and comprehensive analysis of energy consumption, we propose three necessary principles for energy-efficient topology control for wireless sensor networks. Topology control should (1) consider power control and sleep scheduling jointly, (2) be aware of traffic load, and (3) be done in conjunction with routing. We wish this paper could contribute to the development of the research on topology control for wireless sensor networks.

With the widespread diffusion of digital computers, hybrid control systems combine discrete as well as continuous systems by means of computer software in order to control physical processes. This paper presents the design and development of a computer-based feedback control system for an RF remote-controlled robot. The robot is wirelessly connected to a transmitter/receiver circuit through two RF remote control units ensuring fast and reliable five-bit, two-way communication. The transmitter/receiver circuit is connected to the parallel (LPT1) port of a PC running a Javatrade application. The program provides two functionalities for the robot: a closed-loop control system that allows the robot to automatically follow a line, and an open-loop system that allows the user to manually control the robot through a Graphical User Interface (GUI). The computer-based feedback control system is a demonstration of a reactive hybrid system where flexible computer instructions form the logic unit that controls a continuous process. The system can be easily modified to enhance the capabilities of the robot and use different control laws and principles, thus ascertaining that hybrid control systems are highly accurate, reliable, and most importantly flexible.

In this paper we describe how controller area network (CAN) frames can be relayed over a wireless Internet connection, enabling remote access to the CAN buses of vehicles for applications in automotive telematics. This opens up many new possibilities for diagnostics, monitoring, testing, analysis and verification, which we believe can significantly reduce the time required for the testing and verification phases of automotive development. A CAN-over-IP tunneling protocol is described and the design and implementation of a generic system for remote access to the CAN bus of vehicles is presented. Examples of applications of the technology are given and implications in terms of new possibilities and challenges in automotive engineering are discussed.

To avoid financial and other losses that occur because of insider threat an agent based profiling model was developed. When profile of the trusted user becomes mature it is analyzed and verified against organization's policy. The users are marked as suspicious if their activities are against the policies of the organizations. This paper discusses the privacy and ethical issues of the proposed model, ACENET, when it is deployed in the organization to monitor an employee's activities. The paper also addresses misconception regarding security and privacy. The conventions regarding privacy policy of some standard bodies have also been referred. The tentative issues and the conflict between employer and employee that rises because of their interests have also been addressed and solution in form of Trust - Grid has been proposed. Finally, it has been concluded that in the light of provided guidelines, policy-making is the foundation to resolve all kind of probable conflicts.

Periodic run-time scheduling of reconfigurable hardware (RH) is based on a simple prediction: RH needs in the near future will be similar to that of the recent past. Generally, this prediction is good; application behavior is phased, and RH needs are stable in each phase. A short RH scheduling interval then allows the system to adapt to application phase changes. However, there is one important case in multitasking systems where recent past behavior does not predict the near future: application thread context switch. When the OS performs a context switch, a different application will execute and have different RH needs. In this paper, we present two run-time thread-scheduler aware allocators: SPY and SLY. Both techniques modify the RH allocation based on software context switches. SLY improves performance for single-processor systems, but dramatically degrades it for two-CPU systems. SPY can improve performance for both one- and two-processor systems, but requires further development to avoid reallocating RH ¿too soon¿ and make it more effective for multi-processors.
