The IEC 61499 Function Block is an open standard for distributed control and automation. However, work related to using IEC61499 as code generator for various programming languages is still lacking. In this paper, a methodology for code generation based on XML and EBNF is discussed. Along with this code generator, an Iterative Knowledge Based Data Library (IKBDL) is proposed to improve the accuracy of the target codes. An example of converting XML codes generated from Function Block into SystemC language is demonstrated.

Innovation quality construction is the need of building an innovation-oriented country and a harmonious society. And harmonious campus environment has an important role in promoting innovation quality construction. Based on the analysis of the organic unity between the harmony campus and innovation quality construction, the ways of constructing innovation quality are investigated, six ways are proposed to improve the innovation quality of the college students, including development of team spirit, the implementation of research-based teaching, the establishment of extra-curricular science and technology innovation team, the implementation of mentoring, the establishment of an open innovation labs and pay attention to the cultivation of innovation and emotion. This will help students grow as professionals and contribute to a harmonious socialist society.

In recent years, there has been significant interest in implementing neural networks on FPGAs. This paper describes a simple technique for implementing multi-layer neural networks, with arbitrary numbers of neurons and layers, on FPGAs, using minimal resources. The network architecture can be modified simply by loading memory with the architecture parameters and the network weights and biases. The paper also presents an application of the technology, in which a smart position sensor system is implemented with a neural network on a Xilinx Spartan 3E FPGA development system.

Previously, mechanical devices have been used for the controlled release of aroma molecules. Therefore, noise associated with the operation of the device could not be avoided, prior to every transmission of aroma information. Moreover, as the aroma source was located inside or in the bottom of the device, it had a problem of odor components adhering to the device structure. In this research, we focus on a chemical container of temperature responsive hydrogel, which can have reversible phase transition between sol and gel, and controlled release of aroma by using a peltier module to control the temperature. With this approach, a soundless olfactory display was achieved. In addition, we tried to solve the problem of odor component adhesion by arranging a card-based aroma source on the top of the olfactory display. Having evaluated the usability of the card-based olfactory display, we were able to confirm its effectiveness and efficiency.

For engineering students, functioning in a ¿smaller, flatter world¿ means gaining an education that extends them into global experiences. These experiences are personally developing by fostering development of 1) better self-understanding, 2) improved communication skills, 3) improved adaptability, 4) stronger self-reliability and 5) stronger capacity for working effectively with others from different culture and value systems. Professional development results as the students 1) delve in depth into the practice and deployment of a technology (for some for their first time), 2) become better prepared to assume leadership roles-especially of multi-cultural organizations, and 3) better understand the core elements of competitiveness in a global context. Nearly 70% of our annual graduates have extended global engagements; 15% experience international internships. We have been growing these percentages for many years. Our approaches to growing our international internships, which serve us best, leverage businesses with a relationship to Calvin College and alumni with international activities to provide internship sites. From nine engineering students with international internships in the summer of 2008, the practices and approaches that worked and those needing improvement are highlighted. Our emphasis is to assure that the international internship is productive for all and to indicate routes to grow this program-as we believe we - and other institutions must. The goal of this paper is to describe our approaches so that other institutions can adapt them to their purposes.

This video shows the results of the project on the mechatronic development of the Twente humanoid head. The mechanical structure consists of a neck with four degrees of freedom (DOFs) and two eyes (a stereo pair system) which tilt on a common axis and rotate sideways freely providing a three more DOFs. The motion control algorithm is designed to receive, as an input, the output of a biological-inspired vision processing algorithm and to exploit the redundancy of the joints for the realization of the movements. The expressions of the humanoid head are implemented by projecting light from the internal part of the translucent plastic cover.

Convenient, efficient and anonymous characteristic enables P2P network to own enormous users very quickly. However, how much service performance of searching and transmitting is provided by P2P network for a concrete resource? How much is the success ratio and recall ratio of resource's searching of existing P2P network? Rare research is deepened about those questions. This paper, for unstructured P2P network, provides calculating method of service performance of concrete resource; analyzes success ratio and recall ratio of resource's searching, and by experiment simulation, discusses the influence of resource's popularity, Peer's quantity, initial number of objected resource, Peer's average degree and TTL value to success ratio and recall ratio of resource's searching. We conclude that recall ratio is only related with topology character of P2P network itself but not related with resource's quantity. Otherwise, when, mostly searching process can reach higher success ratio and recall ratio.

How can mathematical modelling be integrated with complex network of biological system in comprehensive education? There are mutual agreements between academia from various fields that mathematical modelling is an important part of the curriculum. Immunology is a complex subject and for student to fully understand its complex interaction at molecular level requires computer supported models. This research tries to resolve the ever emerging problem of teaching immunology in higher education. The main objective is to develop multimedia educational software to enhance immunology teaching, with the use of a computer Algebra System (CAS) that fully utilizes mathematical equation, modelling and simulation of complex network of gene regulation and metabolism. A survey was conducted among students in higher learning institutions, and the result clearly shows that the current teaching method is not feasible to the current learning style. To overcome this, new teaching techniques to support the required understanding need to be introduced. With the development of this educational package that uses new modelling and simulation techniques hopefully can aid in teaching some of immunology courses.

There are increasingly demanding for huge computing capabilities and complex processes managing technologies along with the development of large-scale parallel scientific computing applications. Taking ensemble prediction in climate domain for example, we discuss BPEL-based workflow for complex scientific computing management. The contributions of this paper are double-folds: on the framework side, we propose a job wrapping paradigm to wrap the environment depending applications with JSDL, and use a standard job submission system called GridSAM for job submitting and monitoring, which enables scientists to compose, monitor and run the applications easily with workflow system. On the algorithm side, we propose a job scheduling algorithm for the large-scale parallel applications based on job pool in the heterogeneous environment. As a result, the resources can be utilized according to their capabilities and we can achieve the load balance of resources.

Digital game-based learning has a great potential and can make a strong addition to traditional teaching within the field of software security. It can help improve the education of current and future software developers, by giving them hands-on experience in a controlled environment. This paper presents the results from the development process and evaluation of a digital learning game for teaching software security to computer science students. The purpose has been to design and implement a learning game, but also to test the game on the student body, in order to gather data to help evaluate and improve it. The game is not meant to replace traditional teaching, but as an alternative and complementary way of teaching software security and help raise awareness and interest in the subject as well as train *** implemented game is Web-based, which means the users only need a Web browser to play it. It simulates security vulnerabilities commonly found in Web applications, to help give students hands-on security experience in a controlled *** game is based on design suggestions from other studies within digital game-based learning and evaluated based on data collected from user testing and user feedback. The game evaluation has resulted in several suggestions on how to improve the learning game and the overall learning process, as well as suggestions for further studies.
