Requirements traceability is a challenge for modern software projects where task dependencies and technical expertise are spread across system developers, abstract model representations such as use cases, and a myriad of code artefacts. This paper presents an approach that monitors the navigation trails left by developers when building code artefacts to realise project use cases. These trails are analysed to generate a relevance ranking of entities that constitute a traceability link between uses cases and code artefacts and the developers responsible for them. Investigation in a software development scenario shows that a range of use case traceability questions can be answered through visualisations which present ordered relevance lists of the entities associated with use cases and by the use of trace graphs where the size of nodes show the importance, or 'information centrality', of system entities.

In order to select service based on users’ QoS preference,the paper studied and presented several ways to describe QoS preference ***,these ways were applied to the algorithm of service selection,the QoS preference function and user’s satisfaction degree which as an evaluation criteria of user were ***,the paper put forward an algorithm of service selection based on QoS *** tests showed that the algorithm could reliably select the optimal service with a good stability.

High dimensional and high-resolution gene expression data generated by the in situ hybridization (ISH) technique provides biologists a powerful tool to study gene functions. Nevertheless, a major challenge in analyzing such data is how to efficiently retrieve genes showing certain spatial expression patterns and/or genes showing similar expression patterns as the query gene. The development of a fast image segmentation algorithm and an effective statistical scoring method is useful to address the above question. In this paper we propose a fast binary image segmentation algorithm, which can efficiently detect the spatially restricted expression regions of a gene and/or co-expression regions between genes. A naive permutation approach is applied to assess the statistical significance of the detected regions. Our method is expected to drive ISH data analysis toward a more systematic and objective direction.

In this paper we present an extension of the previously reported model-based testing approach that is based on formal models and user-provided testing scenarios. In this approach, the user provides a testing scenario on the level of an abstract model. When the abstract model is refined to add or modify features, the corresponding testing scenarios are automatically refined to incorporate these changes. The resulting testing scenarios are unfolded into the test cases containing the required inputs and expected outputs. To automate this test case generation process, we provideguidelines for the formal development of system models. We use Event-B as our formal framework. We also propose a method for automatic generation of Java implementation templates for Event-B specifications. Moreover, the corresponding testing scenarios are translated into JUnit test cases.

The development of computer processor has stepped into the era of multi-core, providing a good chance to spread the parallel discrete event simulation. The parallel programming model and synchronization problem during the parallelization of discrete event simulation on multi-core platform were discussed. A parallel discrete event simulator based on multi-core platform was designed and implemented using the optimistic synchronization algorithm. On an HP multi-core server with up to 8 cores, both the overheads of the parallel simulator and the effects of event granularity, process number, lookahead on the simulation performance were tested using the Phold model. The experiment results show that the optimistic parallel discrete event simulation based on multi-core platform could achieve good speedup for simulation applications with coarse-grained events.

This paper presents a simplification method for B-rep (Boundary Representation) models through region suppression. It suppresses every complex unwanted region of a B-rep model as a whole so as to effectively and efficiently generate a simplified version of the original model that preserves the rough shape. In this method, the new surfaces that are used to cover each suppressed region are constructed based on the decomposition of the boundary loops of the suppressed region, rather than through the time-consuming face extension and intersection operations widely adopted by previous works. The experimental and evaluation results are given to show the efficiency and robustness of the method.

Oil reservoir simulation helps in extracting oil and in optimal well placement. This paper presents the parallelization, development, performance analysis, and profiling of a 2-phase oil-water reservoir simulator on a heterogeneous multi-core STI Cell computer. Despite the largely interdependent nature of the oil reservoir model equations, we obtained speedups of 6x with a 1D reservoir data. We boosted the performance by 2x with the right selection of compiler options. We also ran our application on the SystemSim simulator for collection of performance events. Profiling and trace analysis of the application were conducted through VAMPIR, a performance and trace analysis tool for HPC applications. The results from both tools are also presented.

Service-oriented architecture (SOA) is characterized by dynamic service discovery and composition. For user-centric SOA, not only services, workflows and application templates can be published and discovered for composition. Furthermore, a user can publish an application template and let providers supply the needed services. A key issue in user-centric service composition is to intelligently and effectively discover the subset of correlated services that best match the users' requirements. This paper proposes a two-steps composition process. In the first step, users choose templates from ontology with its dependency. The dependency information identifies a set of candidate services and workflows that may be applicable for composition. In the send step, after the templates are selected, users can finalize the selection of services and workflows from a set of candidate services or workflows based on their preference. This 2-step process is supported by dependency identification algorithms and is illustrated using a case study.

A mobile agent based data gathering system for Web image retrieval is proposed in this paper. In our system, the data gathering system are implemented as mobile agents that can run on the remote servers, which lead to most computing intensive tasks, i.e. feature extracting, indexing , can be parallelized and carried out on different remote Web servers. It makes a great improvement in processing speed by multiple mobile agents cooperatively executing computing intensive tasks on different servers. Moreover, it decreases network traffic obviously because only necessary processing results needs to be transferred among different servers. The data gathering system is applied in VAST system and the experimental results demonstrates its effectiveness.

The runtime detection of failure and recovery from failure is a major challenge facing e-business and e-commerce applications. Different types of failure are well understood through the failure model, but the detection and differentiation between these failures still proves difficult at runtime. Even when failures are detected, recovery may be hindered as certain failures may mask the root cause failure making it difficult to elaborate a recovery strategy. Through this paper we describe a pragmatic approach to failure detection and recovery based on the combination of middleware-based instrumentation and control services. In particular, we describe the development of failure detection instruments and failure recovery control services using Jini middleware technology. The failure detection instruments are capable of identifying different failure types and failure recovery control services make use of failure patterns to activate appropriate recovery strategies.
