This paper presents the development of an Artificial Neural Networks and Particle Swarm Optimization (ANN-PSO) based short-term load forecasting model with improved generalization technique for the Regional Power Control Center of Saudi Electricity Company, Western Operation Area (SEC-WOA). Weather, load demand, wind speed, wind direction, heat, sunlight, etc. are quite different in a desert land than other places. Thus this model is different from a typical forecasting model considering inputs and outputs. In this research paper two steps have been introduced, first load forecasting made by mapping mechanism and then optimization technique applied to improve its accuracy. This paper includes ANN and PSO models for 24-hours ahead load forecasting. ANN is an effective mathematical tool for mapping complex relationships. It is also successful for doing forecasting, categorization, classification, and so forth. On the other hand, PSO is the most promising optimization tool. It has better information sharing and conveying mechanism; it has better balance of local and global searching abilities; and can handle huge multi-dimensional optimization problems efficiently with hundreds of thousands of constraints. Thus PSO is chosen as the optimization model of the weight matrix of ANN. Results show that the proposed ANN-PSO performs much better than ANN for the load forecasting in a desert like Saudi Arabia.

The design and measurements of the prototype general purpose digital to analog converter for readout systems in high energy physics experiments are presented. The main goals for the proposed DAC are low power consumptions, small die area and high output swing. The 10 bit DAC design is based on current steering architecture comprising high swing class AB output amplifier. The prototype ASIC is fabricated in the 2P-4M 0.35-mum technology. The measurements of maximum differential (DNL) and integral (INL) nonlinearity show 0.8 and 0.6 LSB respectively. The total power consumption is below 0.6 mW while the area is 0.18 mm 2 .

With the resurgence of virtualization technologies and the development of multi-core technologies, the combination of the two becomes a trend. Therefore, inter-VM communication becomes a key part in how to improve the performance of virtual machines (VMs) basing on multi-core platform. In this paper, we first analyze the characteristics of multi-core tasks and the properties of virtual machine environment, and then classify processor cores into two categories basing on their different functions. According to the classification, we design an inter-VM communication mechanism with multi-core platform. It discards the traditional communication path between VMs which needs to via a trusted VM, sets up communication channels between virtual CPUs in different VMs and uses shared memory space to implement high-throughput communication of inter-VM. Experiment results have proved the efficiency of them.

The paper integrated the geographical information system with cellular automata (CA) and made use of VB and ArcGIS as development tools to design and implement the system of forest fire spread in Inner Mongolia Region. It realized the simulation of the 2D forest fire spread based on CA and visualization of the 3D realtime images transmitted from the fire site. In the 2D simulation process, combing the physical model and CA model and considering the factors affecting the forest fire, such as the meteorological, terrain and fuel type in order to more realistically simulate the spread of forest fire. At the same time, finding the short path to the fire site for fighter during the forest fire. By the analysis results, the decision-makers can make the scientific and effective fire extinguishing decisions.

Cloud computing solutions have quickly become a hot topic in information technology circles. The proliferation of high performance, reliable and secure internet infrastructure, along with new, rich web development tools and technologies has meant that for the first time software can be hosted in a purely web based context. Many of the traditional software packages (especially business packages) that have historically been installed and used on local computers for decades are slowly but surely appearing online. The trend is undeniable and it is now not unreasonable to speculate that most business software packages will be purely web based in the not too distant future. With this centralisation of software, comes considerable management problems. These problems stem from the astronomical scale of the data centres that operate Cloud Computing solutions. This paper suggests a new declarative language framework that might address these management problems by automating the deployment and day to day operation of cloud computing solutions.

Matlab is a well-known tool for processing images. It provides engineers, scientists, and researchers with an intuitive, flexible environment for solving complex imaging problems. For measurement of humanpsilas fatigue level, the images for the eyelid blinking or mouth yawning can be processed using Matlab in order to exhibit that the human is fatigue or not. This paper discusses a framework that combines 2 factors (eyelid blinking and mouth yawning) for measurement of humanpsilas fatigue level. The purpose of combining these 2 factors is to get a better measurement of the level of human fatigue due to drowsiness. The process and activities in this framework are elaborated in details as a guide and reference to build a prototype using Matlab programming language software. Insight acquired through this study is expected to be useful for the development of simulation. This research and invention will be a technological solution to address some human problems such as accident prevention and safety for transportation used and also for educational area.

Determining the proper inventory method in arid and semi arid region is of great importance, hence transect-plot inventory method was proposed. Rahim Abad Pistachio forest with an area about 1882 ha located in 75 km of north of Mashhad city. These forests belong to arid and semi arid floristic regions. Transect-plot method was employed in these forests. This method integrates sampling with Transect and permanent plots. According to the results, these forest are coppice with standard and Pistacia, Amygdalus, Atraphaxis, Zygophyllum, and other species Constitute 26, 30, 25, 14 and 5 percent of species composition. These forests are enclosures and degradation effects due to cattle's are observed. Regeneration Situations are not satisfactory and most of the trees have been attacked by pests and diseases. The results showed that the canopy cover in pistachio forest is 4.54 and the density of trees per hectare is 160.72 (Pistacia 42, Amygdalus 48, Zygophyllum 23, Atraphaxis 40 and other species 8 individuals per hectare). The regeneration percentage of total measured trees and shrubs is 21% of which Atraphaxis, Amygdalus, Pistacia and Zygophyllum constitute 50, 31, 13, 6%, respectively. These forests were studied in forestry and silviculture points of view. Due to conservation and environmental aspect of Rahim Abad pistachio forests, they to be planned for development and area extension, till their sustainability continues for future.

Urinary tract infection diagnosis and antibiogram require a 48 hour waiting period using conventional methods. This results in ineffective treatments, increased costs and most importantly in increased resistance to antibiotics. In this work, a novel method for classifying bacteria and determining their sensitivity to an antibiotic using Raman spectroscopy is described. Raman spectra of three species of gram negative Enterobacteria, most commonly responsible for urinary tract infections, were collected. The study included 25 samples each of ***, Klebsiella p. and Proteus spp. A novel algorithm based on spectral ratios followed by discriminant analysis resulted in classification with over 94% accuracy. Sensitivity and specificity for the three types of bacteria ranged from 88-100%. For the development of an antibiogram, bacterial samples were treated with the antibiotic ciprofloxacin to which they were all sensitive. Sensitivity to the antibiotic was evident after analysis of the Raman signatures of bacteria treated or not treated with this antibiotic as early as two hours after exposure. This technique can lead to the development of new technology for urinary tract infection diagnosis and antibiogram with same day results, bypassing urine cultures and avoiding all undesirable consequences of current practice.

The architecture of a software application determines the degree of success of both operation and development of software. Adopted architectural options not only affect the functionality and performance of the software, but they also affect delivery related factors such as cost, time, changeability, scalability, and maintainability. It is thus very important to find appropriate means of assessing benefits as well as liabilities of different architectural options to maximize the life-time benefit and reduce the overall cost of ownership of a software application. The Architecture Tradeoff Analysis Method (ATAM SM ) developed by Software Engineering Institute (SEI) is that kind of tool. Considerably this is a very big framework for dealing with architectural tradeoff issues faced by large companies for developing large as well as complex software applications. The practicing of full blown ATAM without taking into consideration of diverse forces affecting the value addition from its practice does not maximize benefits from its adoption. Related forces faced by small software companies are significantly different than those faced by large software companies. Therefore, ATAM should be adapted to make it suitable for the practice by small software companies. This paper presents the information about the architectural practice level of organically grown small software companies within the context of ATAM followed by the gap analysis between the industry practices and ATAM, and adaptation recommendations. Both literature review and field investigation based on key informant interview have been performed for this purpose. Based on the findings of this study an adaptation process of ATAM for the small companies has been proposed.
