The challenging nature of complex human disorders has taught us that we can not untangle a disorder unless we understand how the ldquoenginerdquo of molecular systems works. After learning the basic physiology of different organs in the human body, a ldquomolecular revolutionrdquo occurred, which has now generated a huge amount of information regarding the function of individual molecules in human cells. The difficult task, however, is to understand how thousands of molecules communicate and work together to deliver a specific function, and more importantly, what goes wrong when the system fails and causes different diseases. The emerging field of systems biology is now opening the door for engineers, to join molecular biologists and enter the era of molecular biomedical engineering.

Recent advancement in wireless communications and electronics has enabled the development of low-cost & low power sensors networks. The sensor networks can be used for various application areas (e.g., health, military, home). Wireless Sensor Networks are autonomous devices forwarding locally collected data to a so-called sink node along multi-hop wireless paths. The main con-straint is the limited (battery) power. WSN are usually deployed in very harsh environment where node failure occurs frequently. The network should be resilient to node failure and should give long life which is of the order of 1-2 year with single charge. In this paper we have discussed some of the works done for efficient utilization of power in WSNs and some of the protocols , some of the coding and decoding algorithms used for power saving in WSNs has been discussed.

Learning Management Systems (LMSs) are more important in e-learning and future education. LMSs provide a set of functionalities and educational services to manage learners and learning contents. With the Internet growth, various learning contents and different learning systems are distributed independently. Thus, managing the distributed information and implementing interoperability between learning systems becomes more challenging. A Web service is the most innovative and well-established implementation platform for communications between applications. This paper proposes the communication architecture design for LMSs. It includes Web service interactions, essential service design, and application development. Web services and applications are designed using the standard LMS data structure. This data structure is rearranged into the new form that depends on requirements of remote applications. The design of communication architecture of Web services makes the standard LMSs able to link LMSs and other applications together. The proposed communication architecture also makes the standard LMSs enable the interoperability feature.

Recently, with the development of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), many new routing protocols have been designed for WSNs. Routing protocols in WSNs, however, might differ depending on the application and network architecture. Furthermore, WSNs are exposed to numerous routing security threats. Therefore, it is headachy for us to choose secure routing protocols for application in WSNs. In respect that the choice of secure routing protocols for WSNs is intimately related with the application requirements and routing protocol characteristics and the attacks on routing protocol, there is no "panacea" secure routing protocol. In this paper, we present a table that guides us to choose appropriate secure routing protocols for a particular application in WSNs.

The possible integration of sensing information with RFID data can be accomplished by using sensor tag instead of using RFID tag only. Although EPCglobal provides standard architecture framework for processing RFID information, the diverse RFID applications and services necessitate collection and manipulation of integrated RFID-sensing information at the same system. Systems deploying sensor tag can achieve both ID data and sensing data simultaneously. However, it is a big system challenge to monitor sensing data and manage sensor tags using existing standards. Moreover, efficient control and management of sensor tag moods and states is also an issue in saving tag battery power and storing necessary sensing information in sensor tag memory. To fulfill all application requirements and manipulation of RFID-sensing data require efficient management of sensor tag. In this paper, we propose a new system architecture for efficient sensor tag management based on EPCglobal framework.

With the rapid development of the Web2.0 communities, many researchers have been attracted by the concept of folksonomy from the field of data mining and information retrieval. Finding out semantic correlation of tags is avid requirement for Web2.0 application. However, no proper algorithm can tackle this task very well. This paper proposes a core-tag oriented clustering method to handle the task. The main contributions include: (1) Proposing the concept of core-tag oriented space; (2) Proposing a method called Core-Tag oriented Spectral Clustering (CTSC) to cluster tags in the new space; (3) Designing experiments to evaluate the algorithm, and the results show that CTSC algorithm performs well on clustering tags.

With the development of Web service technology, applications constructed by Composite Web Service becoming possible, so the importance of optimization problems for QoS of Web Service composite are becoming increasingly evident. Genetic algorithm and ant colony algorithm are both belong to the global optimization methods of QoS. For ant colony algorithm easy to drop into the slow pace of convergence while genetic algorithm easy to fall into local optimal solution and the low efficiency problem, this paper combined with the two algorithms' advantages, give full play to the positive feedback characteristics of ant colony algorithm and genetic algorithm's rapid global search capability, improves the global optimization algorithm's ability. After testing and analysis, it shows that the presented algorithm resolve the optimization problem of QoS better.

From mundane and repetitive tasks to assisting first responders in saving lives of victims in disaster scenarios, robots are expected to play an important role in our lives in the coming years. Despite recent advances in mobile robotic systems, lack of widely accepted performance metrics and standards hinder the progress in many application areas such as manufacturing, healthcare, and search and rescue. In this paper, we outline the importance of the development of standardized methods and objective performance evaluation/benchmarking of existing and emerging robotic technologies. We provide a survey of significant past efforts by researchers and developers around the globe and discuss how we can leverage such efforts in advancing the state-of-the-art. Using an example of designing a dasiastandardpsila evaluation toolkit for robotic mapping, we illustrate some of the problems faced in developing objective performance metrics whilst accommodating the requirements and restrictions imposed by the intended domain of operation and other practical considerations.

This paper presents the field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of a variant of the Lenstra-Lenstra-Lovasz (LLL) lattice reduction (LR) algorithm, known as the Clarkson's Algorithm (CA), and its application to uncoded multiple input-multiple output (MIMO) detection. The CA provides practically the same performance as the LLL algorithm while having a considerably lower complexity, especially for MIMO systems with a large number of transmit and receive antennas. The algorithm has been implemented in real-time using a rapid prototyping methodology, greatly reducing its development time. Implementation results indicate that the variable complexity and the sequential nature of LR algorithms, like the CA, remain their main drawbacks from an implementation point of view.

As the development of Service-Oriented Computing (SOC), more and more functional similar services are deployed over the Internet. Nowadays, service selection becomes a crucial issue to make SOC more applicable. Troublesome service will affect the whole SOC application which invokes the service. Therefore, when choosing services, not only the functional attributes but also the Quality of Service (QoS) should also be considered. In this work, we develop a framework to collect the indices of service quality, including runtime and non-runtime indices. A fuzzy partial-ordering approach, which takes both quality indices and their uncertainty into consideration, is proposed to evaluate web services. A series of partial-ordering models has been developed to rank web services according to their quality. Case study shows that the proposed approach is effective for selecting the service having the best quality from the collections of functional similar services.
