Along with the development of sophisticated image processing software, it is getting easier forging a digital image but harder to detect it. It is already a problem for us to distinguish tampered photos from authentic ones. In this paper, we propose an approach based on feature fusion to detect digital image tampering. First, we extract the feature statistics that can represent the property of a camera from the images taken by that camera. These feature statistics are used for training a one-class classifier in order to get the feature pattern of the given camera. Then, we do sliding segmentation to testing images. Finally, feature statistics extracted from image blocks are fed into the trained one-class classifier to match the feature pattern of the given camera. The images with low percentage of matched blocks are classified as tampered ones. Our method could achieve a high accuracy in detecting the tampered images that undergone post-processing such as JPEG compression, re-sampling and retouching.

Online recommendation systems are becoming more and more popular with the development of web. However, a critical problem of such system is that new users and items are always added to the system with time. How to overcome the data sparseness for such new incoming entities become an important issue. In this paper, we try to reduce the data sparseness in the link prediction problem via involving heterogeneous information network as auxiliary information sources. We developed two models based on the Collective Matrix Factorization (CMF) framework. We also provided a detailed empirical study on how effectively different information networks could help with two real world link prediction tasks. We will report some preliminary results of our current work and also point our several potential research issues.

It is well known that Web users create links with different intentions. However, a key question, which is not well studied, is how to categorize the links and how to quantify the strength of the influence of a Web page on another if there is a link between the two linked Web pages. In this paper, we focus on the problem of link semantics analysis, and propose a novel supervised learning approach to build a model, based on a training link-labeled and link-weighted graph where a link-label represents the category of a link and a link-weight represents the influence of one web page on the other in a link. Based on the model built, we categorize links and quantify the influence of Web pages on the others in a large graph in the same application domain. We discuss our proposed approach, namely pairwise restricted Boltzmann machines (PRBMs), and conduct extensive experimental studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach using large real datasets.

The OSGi framework is a Java-based, centralized, component oriented platform. It is being widely adopted as an execution environment for the development of extensible applications. However, current Java Virtual Machines are unable to isolate components from each other. For instance, a malicious component can freeze the complete platform by allocating too much memory or alter the behavior of other components by modifying shared variables. This paper presents I-JVM, a Java Virtual Machine that provides a lightweight approach to isolation while preserving compatibility with legacy OSGi applications. Our evaluation of I-JVM shows that it solves the 8 known OSGi vulnerabilities that are due to the Java Virtual Machine and that the overhead of I-JVM compared to the JVM on which it is based is below 20%.

Human-computer Interface (HCI) has become an important area of research and development for the disabled. A portable wireless eye movement-controlled Human-computer Interface which can be used for the disabled who have motor paralysis and who cannot speak in multiple applications (such as communication aid and smart home applications) is described here. This Interface consists of four major parts: (1) surface electrodes, (2) a two-channel amplifier, (3) a laptop (or a micro-processor), and (4) a ZigBee wireless module. Horizontal and vertical Electro-Oculography (EOG) signals are measured using five surface electrodes placed on the head .The vertical electrodes are placed about 1.0 cm above the right eyebrow and 2.0 cm below the lower lid of the right eye, the horizontal electrodes are placed 2.0 cm lateral to the each side of outer canthi and the last electrode is placed on user's forehead to serve as a ground. The two-channel amplifier is comprised of instrumentation amplifiers, band-pass filters and shift circuits. The EOG signals are sampled at the rate of 250Hz and then sent to a laptop or a micro-processor for signal processing which is based on the method of mathematical morphology to recognize the direction of eye movements and voluntary eye blink. The ZigBee wireless communication technology, which is proved to be reliable, low-power and cost-efficient, is used in the portable interface. The subjects can control the wireless device or move a cursor over a screen by using this interface. The delay of this interface is less than 0.5s and errors are very limited. This interface provides a flexible method for the disabled to improve the life quality.

Currently, the network security appliance is one of the most important research topics in IT security. The use of log files for further security analysis was proven their importance in the development of a three DNS query traffic based detection model system for a proactive detection of security threat in the university campus network. In the current detection strategy we can detect some suspicious infected candidates that need further analysis to prove their infection level. In order to perform this detailed analysis we need to collect the traffic from the suspicious candidate. We decide to use a hardware based system which is going to collect the traffic directly from the suspicious candidate. The traffic collected will be useful as a proof of the infection of the system. This information will provide us the possibility to create a personalized and portable device, which can be located in any network to analyze the same traffic without decreasing the network efficiency.

Medical image registration plays an important role in investigating disease processes and understanding normal development and ageing. An essential component in most medical registration approaches is affine transformation. The affine transformation is made up of any combination of linear transformations (rotation and scaling) followed by translation. These algorithms are generally computationally expensive. The increasing availability of parallel computers makes parallelizing these tasks an attractive option. This paper proposes a massively parallel approach for affine transformations using a representative data parallel architecture to accelerate such algorithms. The result of our parallel approach is outstanding in terms of both processing performance and energy efficiency. The proposed parallel approach achieves a three order of computational capabilities and a second order of energy efficiency of other implementations using commercial processors such as TI DSP and ARM families.

To advance robotic science it is important to perform experiments that can be replicated by other researchers to compare different methods. However, these comparisons tend to be biased, since re-implementations of reference methods often lack thoroughness and do not include the hands-on experience obtained during the original development process. This paper presents a thorough comparison of 3D scan registration algorithms based on a 3D mapping field experiment, carried out by two research groups that are leading in the field of 3D robotic mapping. The iterative closest points algorithm (ICP) is compared to the normal distributions transform (NDT). We also present an improved version of NDT with a substantially larger valley of convergence than previously published versions.

This paper describes about an automated microscopic imaging system for supporting asbestos qualitative analysis. By JIS (Japanese Industrial Standards), the dispersion staining method is designated as a visual qualitative analysis for asbestos in the construction materials. In the analysis process using the microscope, the expert monitors the particles including asbestos fibers and count them. For supporting such observation process, we developed an automated microscopic image collecting system. It realizes to take the images of the target area and store them to the database automatically. In this paper, we introduce and report the prototype system and its performance.

Angiogenesis, a rigorously regulated process by which new blood vessels are formed, occurs under both physiological and pathological conditions, especially under tumor development. How to accurately quantify vessels in experimental models from angiogenesis assay is of great importance for assessing the angiogenic activity of drugs or chemical compounds. Currently, objective quantification of new vascular growth in chick embryo chorioallantoic membrane (CAM) assay, a popular in vivo angiogenesis assay, has been conducted by some available tools, for example, AngioQuant. However, these tools have some disadvantages, such as long running time and failure of image submission when using web-based tools. To achieve more accurate and faster quantification for angiogenesis in the CAM images, we present an optimal algorithm for angiogenesis image quantification, termed as AngioIQ, and develop a novel automated localization software with friendly graphic user interface. Experimental results obtained in our work demonstrate that AngioIQ offers comparable quantification results with a higher running speed than AngioQuant.
