When modeling the architecture of an existing software system, developers often find inconsistencies between the conceptual and the as-built architecture. To impose the conceptual view on the code often involves large refactoring to remediate architectural violations. This paper reports our experience applying large refactoring to remediate an architectural violation in LogicBlox, a large, multi-language multi-platform system. We used DSM-based analysis in conjunction with a suite of code analysis tools to identify and effect large refactorings. A key insight of this experience is the value of automatically generated proto-interfaces, which may help experts identify standard abstractions around which to structure the refactoring effort. We contribute a process for refactoring that includes the generation of proto-interfaces and the explicit inclusion of expert review.

Wireless sensor network (WSN) has been widely used in information collection and monitoring applications. At the center of attention in these applications are data, which come from the sensor part of each WSN node. Sensor faults are common due to the sensor device itself and the harsh deployment environment. These faults may degrade the data quality from the very beginning and thus have a possible large influence on the final success of specific WSN application. Our work presented in this paper is to monitor the health status of sensors in WSN. Inspired by the latest development of time series data mining technology, a flexible approach is proposed for unspecific fault monitoring. Each deployed WSN node learns the frequent patterns periodically. Any sensor fault follows a pattern that is different from the nodepsilas learned frequent patterns. The proposed method can find fault patterns efficiently. We show how this method works well in Castalia simulation environment.

Given the dependence of today's business systems on a network of computers and servers, the need for security is paramount. Furthermore, with the ever evolving nature of business, and the associated technology for supporting it, requirements for security are also evolving. computers cannot protect information automatically. To guard information residing on the computers, security services and related technologies need to be applied. Security breaches are constantly changing, often at a speed that is difficult to measure. So security practices and procedures need to be reviewed, tested and upgraded on a constant basis, staying ahead of the game. One way of ensuring better security is to be able to measure its strength, and take steps to improve it in a continuous manner. Several standards are being developed that aim to certify the strength of a security system. However, these standards focus on qualitative evaluation of security level of a system and do not consider either the dynamic aspects of user behavior or the possible vulnerabilities and threats the system may be subjected to. Consequently, there is a need for an alternative quantitative modeling approach for security assessment that overcomes the above mentioned drawbacks of the existing systems. In this paper, we present an extensible framework called iMeasure Security (iMS) that is aimed at quantifying the security strength of an enterprise system and its business impact.

Finite State Machine is an effective method commonly used in software designing and developing. It is also of great value in the process of software testing. As interactive activities with users are more primary for up to date software applications, the implementation of program logic correctness is then the main concern for both the end users and vendors. This issue presents novel automatic software testing with FSM methodology, and the main problems are discussed as follows: firstly, introduces state analytical method often used in software design and development. Secondly, represents operational profiles of the program with the events-states transferring sequences thus is fit for state space analysis. Thirdly, conducts automatic testing process based on previous operational profiles. Lastly, designs experiments to validate the effectiveness of this method. This issue concludes FSA is a very efficient method in testing the inner logic errors in GUI software.

Recent development of sensor technology gives us the opportunity to effectively monitor daily activities of individuals. As such, in this paper we present a distributed technique to recognize activities of daily living (ADLs) using simple sensors. We consider a number of randomly deployed sensors in home environment augmented with home appliances (e.g., cabinet, desk, chair etc.). Our proposal consists of three major steps. At first, in a random arrangement of sensors, their triggering pattern under human actions is recorded. These records are assembled for meaningful information. This is followed by the categorization of the key sensors (i.e., most important sensors) for each activity from the acquired knowledge. Finally, we group the sensors such that activity based hierarchical clusters can be formed. The system is thus ready for activity recognition. Experiments reveal that even for a small dataset, our proposal can find out the key sensors and form clusters. Also, it is observed that our proposed mechanism yields an accuracy of determination is more than 61%. In addition, it ensures distribution of processing loads among the sensors themselves and thus minimizes the centralized processing overheads.

Mediation is a form of alternative dispute resolution which aims at assisting disputants in reaching an agreement on a disputed matter. Debate ensues on what skills an individual needs to play a mediator's role effectively. Education and training for mediators become complex issues. Then how can mediator's skills be trained in spite that the skills can not be defined clearly? In cognitive science visualization of and reflection on one's behavior is proven effective in such a situation. In this paper we explore a text processing method for reflective visualization of a dialogue. The dialogue is a time sequence of utterances from a mediator and disputants. The method visualizes an inter-topic association which foreshadows the intentional or unintentional subsequent development of topics indicated by temporal topics clusters far apart in time. The method is applied to a mediation case where a dispute between a seller and a buyer on cancelling an purchase transaction at an online auction site is resolved.

Software entropy is a phenomenon where repeated changes gradually degrade the structure of the system, making it hard to understand and maintain. This phenomenon imposes challenges for organizations that have moved to agile methods from other processes, despite agile's focus on adaptability and responsiveness to change. We have investigated this issue through an industrial case study, and reviewed the literature on addressing software entropy, focussing on the detection of ldquocode smellsrdquo and their treatment by refactoring. We found that in order to remain agile despite of software entropy, developers need better support for understanding, planning and testing the impact of changes. However, it is exactly work on refactoring decision support and task complexity analysis that is lacking in literature. Based on our findings, we discuss strategies for dealing with entropy in this context and present avenues for future research.

In this paper, an electrical-thermal co-analysis method for power delivery networks in 3D system integration is proposed. For electrical analysis, temperature-dependent electrical resistivity of conductors is taken into account. For thermal analysis, Joule heating effect due to the current flowing through conductors is considered. The proposed co-analysis method is carried out using Rgen and ChipJoule of IBM EIP Tool Suite. An example of 3D integration system including stacked chips, power delivery network, glass-ceramic substrate, through-silicon vias, controlled collapse chip connections (C4s), underfill material, and TIM is analyzed using the proposed method. The simulation results show that the temperature effect on IR drop can not be neglected. The error of not considering thermal effect on IR drop is about 20% in the example.

Together with development of semiconductor technology the digital circuits are more and more susceptible to Single Event Upsets that changes information stored in memory components in non-predictible way. This is particularly important for circuits operating in radioactive environment but becomes also an important factor limiting reliability for circuits operating at normal conditions. The countermeasure is a redundancy in circuit that allows to detect and correct errors caused by radiation. Unfortunately CAD software provides very limited support to simulate the consequences of SEU and automatically include required redundancy in the FPGA project. Moreover, optimization procedures remove redundant parts and special effort must be made to prevent that. The paper presents a software environment to process VHDL description of the circuit and automatically generate the redundant blocks together with voting circuits. The generated redundancy uses Triple Module Redundancy (TMR) scheme. It also supports the VHDL simulation with SEUs in order to enable identification of the most sensitive components. Since the TMR is costly, the designer can indicate which parts of the circuit should be replicated basing on the results of simulation.

For IPv6 and IPv4 network seamless interconnection question, it is very essential to study IPv4/IPv6 intercommunication technology to ensure smooth transition of IPv4 to *** solve the seamless interconnection question, this article mainly researches IPv4 to IPv6 development's intercommunication question of three stages, including IPv6 based-IPv4 network interconnection, IPv4/IPv6 transparent interconnection and IPv4 IPv6-based network interconnection, and simultaneously analyzes the various interconnection stages of working ways and the suitable scopes in *** choosing the technology logically,it can solve the seamless communication question.
