Large cascading failures are present in most of infrastructure networks. This paper reviews the problem of cascades of overload failures on nodes in the security of complex networks. Here we propose a nonlinear load-capacity model for cascading failures based on the dynamical redistribution of the flow on the network. The simulation was executed on the weighted scale-free network and Internet AS level network. We show that the entire network may collapse for the breakdown of a single node of the entire network if the node is among the ones with highest loads. This is important for real-world networks such as the Internet, which has a highly heterogeneous distribution of loads.

This paper describes an eye naked 3D display cube, which can track a viewer's position and render the stereo perspective scene in each display surface. The viewers can look the details of 3D models and scenes from any viewpoints. It seems as the real 3D objects lay in the display cube. It supports multi-viewer interactive in one scene. The viewers also can see the position of each other in own screen. They can co-operate in the same scene, although their field of view is independent of each other. The technologies of 3D perspective rendering, marker tracking and image processing are used for the 3D display cube.

Organizing a racing event is not an easy task. Organizing a racing event that spans across multiple days and whose participants have to run (on foot) for 100 miles is even harder. In such events many checkpoints are needed to provide runners with access to food, water and, if necessary, medical assistance. At these checkpoints updates on participants' health status and race timings need to be sent to a central location so that followers across the globe can monitor the overall progress of the race as well as the current situation of individual racers. This paper examines development challenges and presents a flexible open source solution for a web-based software application, EnduRan, z that we created for managing long-distance racing events. The paper takes a closer look at the need for this software application and gives details on the application's specification, design, and implementation. Design guidelines resulted from this software project, together with several lessons learned from it, are described as well in the paper. Results of using EnduRan in the 2009 and 2010 Lake Tahoe 100 Miles Endurance Races and pointers to future work are also included.

In this paper, we present an in-car Chinese noise corpus that can be used in simulating complicated car environment for robust speech recognition research and experiment. The corpus was collected in mainland China in 2009 and 2010. The corpus includes a diversity of car conditions including different car speed, open/close windows, weather conditions as well as environment conditions. Specially, the rumble strips are also taken into account due to the typical noise generated as the car is passing on. In order to use the corpus efficiently, we performed some acoustic signal analyses on those noise data, mainly focused on stationary properties and energy distribution in the frequency domain. We also performed ASR experiments using selected noise data from the corpus, by adding noise data to clean speech to simulate the in-car environment. The corpus is the first of its kind for in-car Chinese noise corpus, providing abundant and diversified samples for car noise speech recognition task.
