In this paper we present the design and prototyping of a 24-channel mixed signal full-customized CMOS integrated biosensor chip for in vitro extracellular recording of neural signals. Design and implementation of hierarchical modules including microelectrode electrophysiological sensors, analog signal buffers, high gain amplifier and control/interface units are presented in detail. The prototype chip was fabricated by MOSIS with AMI C5 0.5 mum, double poly, triple metal layer CMOS technology. The electroless gold plating process is used to replace the aluminum material obtained from the standard CMOS process with biocompatible metal gold in the planner microelectrode array sensors to prevent cell poisoning and undesirable electrochemical corrosion. The biosensor chip provides a satisfactory signal-to-noise ratio for neural signals with amplitudes and frequencies within the range of 600 muV - 2 mV and 100 Hz to 10 KHz, respectively.

In this demo, we present GENIUs, a tool that facilitates research in the area of bilateral multi-issue negotiation. It implements an open architecture allowing easy development and integration of existing negotiating agents. GENIUS can be used to simulate individual negotiation sessions as well as tournaments between negotiating agents in various negotiation scenarios. It allows the specification of negotiation domains and preference profiles by means of a graphical user interface. A number of negotiating agent implementations as well as negotiation scenarios have been collected in GENIUS. GENIUS can be used in experiments with human negotiators that negotiate against automated agents or other humans. An analytical toolbox integrated in GENIUS calculates optimal solutions, such as the Pareto efficient frontier, Nash product and others. This toolbox may be used to visualize a negotiation process and creates an extensive log.

The development of in-line oil contamination sensor for N320 Lubricant used in scraper conveyor reducer is described. The sensor can detect the NAS contamination level of the lubricant and prompt the replacement of oil when the oil contamination level exceeds the indicator of the exchanging standard of L-CKC industrial closed gear oil. This paper describes the sensor's design requirements, principle of operation, selection of wavelength, mechanical structure design and test calibration. The shortcomings of the sensor and relevant solutions are also pointed out in this article.

The development of location based services (LBS) applications specifically on mobile devices requires research into various fields of studies which include cartography, map visualization techniques, mobile graphic engine and wireless network support. Mobile devices however pose limitations such as small screen size, low resolution, limited memory and processing power for map display and navigation. In this study, a generic framework which serves as a guide for developing map-based mobile applications has been proposed. It takes into consideration the constraints of mobile devices and discusses methods to overcome the problems which include visualization techniques, Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) and TinyLine SVG, mobile cartography concepts. A prototype application for finding point of interest in a university campus was developed using the framework as a guide. This application is intended for use on mobile devices equipped with Java and Scalable Vector Graphic (SVG) supports. Generalisation technique has been adapted in map display to avoid cluttering, while the concept of mobile cartography such as colour, symbol, and context was applied in map generation. This study explores the potential of SVG and TinyLine SVG for image display in mobile devices. The application prototype was developed using Java 2 Mobile Edition (J2ME) package, TinyLine SVG software development kit, Servlet technology and MySQL database management system.

The software functional test goal is to detect and remove as many defects as possible with a series of test *** order to solve the problem of paradox of defects coverage and time cost in installation of independent combinational components(ICCI),one adaptive modeling algorithm with Markov-chain decision tree based on some necessary assumptions is proposed in this paper compared to the traditional matrix *** comparing two searching strategies called two-binary search and bottom-totop respectively,we also do some edges cunning work according to improved understanding of correct probability of software product during testing and defect *** the merits of the two strategies with layer controlling,empirical results with one of our product Tivoli Integrated Portal is also collected to demonstrate the effectiveness of such solution.

A query processor is designed for query-based multiple vital signs monitoring system to query sensor network and collect *** monitoring system performs a local vital signs data analysis using cell phone over wireless sensor network(WSN) technology and code division multiple access(CDMA) .In order to control vital signs accurately,query processor assigns unique dedicate communication channels for each of *** is reliable communication between query processor,sensors and medical monitor devices in this system to process and interpret the data gathered by sensor *** process of reading,gathering and managing health data are critical because this closely relates to data quality.A data visualization GUI is designed in cell phone to present measured data in a meaningful visual representation.

Scylla is Europe's first artificial reef and was created by the scuttling of a former Royal Navy frigate off the UK coast in Cornwall. As well as being a popular attraction for divers, the colonisation of the reef is of great interest to marine biologists. A recent research programme undertaken by the University of Birmingham in conjunction with the National Marine Aquarium (NMA) has delivered an interactive 3D model of the Scylla. The aim of this program is to promote a greater educational and scientific understanding of the fragility of marine ecosystems. In its current form, the Virtual Scylla exists as a "kiosk"based exhibit, resulting in only limited handson access by visitors to the NMA. eXtensible 3D (X3D) is a royaltyfree standard which makes it possible to deliver interactive 3D content over the World Wide Web. X3D has previously been used for scientific visualisation in many academic fields. The WebScylla project aims to create an X3D version of the Virtual Scylla which can be delivered over the Web for use as an extensible scientific and educational tool. A web application framework following the ModelViewController (MVC) design pattern is used to rapidly develop a 3D web application to visualise colonisation data relating the Scylla reef which is stored in a relational database. AJAX techniques are used to create a highly interactive and responsive user interface to this application using a hybrid of XHTML and X3D components. It is concluded that MVC frameworks can be a powerful tool for the rapid development of 3D web applications and are particularly suited to datacentric applications. Problems encountered and lessons learned include issues in developing effective user interfaces for visualisation tools using interactive computer graphics and a discussion of some limitations of existing X3D implementations. © 2009 ACM.

This paper provides a possibility for a semantic correct transformation of existing IEC 61131-3 projects into the newer IEC 61499 standard. Based on a model driven development approach as well as proper concepts and rules this paper describes a suitable way to overcome some semantical problems which occurred during the transformation process. Those semantical problems regard some differences between the libraries of IEC 61131-3 and IEC 61499 as well as the extraction of the actual execution sequence of IEC 61131-3 programs. Both issues are supposed to be solved by auxiliary transformations. One static transformation which converts IEC 61131-3 function blocks into simple function blocks. And one project dependent transformation which extracts the execution order of IEC 61131-3 function block networks.

The paper proposes a new way of comprising the Non-negative matrix factorization (NMF) and Testor theory to make topic discovery. NMF method is good at dealing with high dimensional documents and clustering, while Testor theory is used to find the topic of each cluster. By an example of ten abstracts of Chinese science literature from magazines relative to environmental science, the whole process is described in detail. In the end, a case study about automatic classification of a conference proceeding (in Chinese) is given. The result shows the effectiveness of the whole method.

In this paper, we aim at two objectives. Firstly, to construct the model of a powerful tele-medicine centre, that can be initiated by private and national health sector synergies. Secondly, to present our results from the systems and control science point of view, since several constructive methods and powerful tools of these two mature fields of engineering and mathematics can be applied. The whole project is based primarily on satellite facilities, see Galileo/ESA initiatives. The initial substantial costs and funding of such an investment can be properly covered in a mixed fashion by the countrypsilas National Health System and the private entities that will be providing tele-medicine services to larger target groups of end-users. Thus, in this research work, an intelligent engineering-model structure is described that can be easily adapted to serve multiple and diverse needs. This model demonstrates the promise of IC technologies in the delivery of patient-centred healthcare. Moreover, it provides a stepping-stone for distant continuing education between academic health sciencespsila centres, i.e. the Nursing Departments of Universities, the Medical Centres, the Hospitals, the Health Care Laboratories etc. Thus, several types of teleconference equipment and hardware can be employed to provide teaching assistantship for different kinds of e-health services.
