We present a novel technique for real-timely rendering translucent *** technique is mainly based on translucent shadow maps with a new adaptive sampling *** this sampling strategy,the hierarchy levels and positions for sampling are selected according to the size of target *** our optimization,less storage in the texture is required than that in previous *** with previous methods,our technique provide a way to choose the proper sampling pattern and is applicable for a wider range of object *** the implementation on GPU,the presented technique is able to render translucent objects in animated scenes where lights and material parameters vary real-timely without any lengthy preprocessing.

In recent years, architecture analysis & design language (AADL) has been applied to the development of dependable real-time systems, in which the quality of the developed software is an important factor. Thus, to make sure that real-time systems are really dependable, we must verify the important properties, such as safety and reliability. This paper describes a contribution to the transformation of AADL models. In this paper we present an approach for transforming AADL model into prototype verification system (PVS) specification and deductive verification of such AADL models using the PVS interactive theorem prover. Our transformation includes two aspects: structure and behavior description. Applying a PVS specification of a AADL language semantics, we generate a formal representation of the AADL model. After the transformation, some properties, such as safety and reliability, of the model build by AADL could be verified using PVS. We use an example to demonstrate the correctness and feasibility of our approach. Then, we verified the safety and reliability attributes of dependability in our model. At last, we conclude our paper by proposing that model transformation provides powerful support to improve the integration of formal verification in an industrial engineering process and we presented our future work direction.

Background: It is known that the highly pathogenic avian influenza A virus H5N1 binds strongly and with high specificity to the avian-type receptor by its hemagglutinin surface protein. This specificity is normally a barrier to viral transmission from birds to humans. However, strains may emerge with mutated hemagglutinin, potentially changing the receptor binding preference from avian to human-type. This hypothesis has been proven correct, since viral isolates from Vietnam and Thailand have been found which have increased selectivity toward the human cell receptor. The change in binding preference is due to mutation, which can be computationally modelled. The aim of this study is to further explore whether computational simulation could be used as a prediction tool for host type selectivity in emerging variants. Results: Molecular dynamics simulation was employed to study the interactions between receptor models and hemagglutinin proteins from H5N1 strains A/Duck/Singapore/3/97, mutated A/Duck/Singapore/3/97 (Q222L, G224S, Q222L/G224S), A/Thailand/1(KAN-1)/2004, and mutated A/Thailand/1(KAN-1)/2004 (L129V/A134V). The avian receptor was represented by Siaα (2,3)Gal substructure and human receptor by Siaα(2,6)Gal. The glycoside binding conformation was monitored throughout the simulations since high selectivity toward a particular host occurs when the sialoside bound with the near-optimized conformation. Conclusion: The simulation results showed all hemagglutinin proteins used the same set of amino acid residues to bind with the glycoside;however, some mutations alter linkage preferences. Preference toward human-type receptors is associated with a positive torsion angle, while aviantype receptor preference is associated with a negative torsion angle. According to the conformation analysis of the bound receptors, we could predict the relative selectivity in accordance with in vitro experimental data when disaccharides receptor analogs were used. © 2012 BioMed Central

Ambient assisted living and integrated care in an aging society is based on the vision of the lifelong Electronic Health Record calling for HealthCare Information Systems and medical device interoperability. For medical devices this aim can be achieved by the consistent implementation of harmonized international interoperability standards. The ISO/IEEE 11073 (x73) family of standards is a reference standard for medical device interoperability. In its personal health device (PHD) version several devices have been included, but an ECG device specialization is not yet available. On the other hand, the SCP-ECG standard for short-term diagnostic ECGs (EN1064) has been recently approved as an international standard ISO/IEEE 11073-91064:2009. In this paper, the relationships between a proposed x73-PHD model for an ECG device and the fields of the SCP-ECG standard are investigated. A proof-of-concept implementation of the proposed x73-PHD ECG model is also presented, identifying open issues to be addressed by standards development for the wider interoperability adoption of x73-PHD standards.

There is a need to develop open sensors and middleware components that allow transparent integration and plug-and-play interoperability of Medical Devices (MDs) and computer Engines (CEs). The use of standards seems to be the internationally adopted way to solve these problems and allow implementing ubiquitous solutions, including wearable devices, focused on the new paradigm of Personal Health (p-Health). However, to the best of our knowledge, there is no experience where the full chain from personal healthcare environment to Health Centre had been implemented using interoperability standards. Even though there have been some initiatives to combine different standards, the vision of an entire end-to-end standard-based system is not yet a fact end-to-end solution. This paper presents the implementation guidelines of a ubiquitous platform for p-Health. It is end-to-end standards-based, using ISO/IEEE11073 in the patient environment and EN13606 to communicate the information to an Electronic Healthcare Record (EHR) server. The platform has been designed to comply with the last ISO/IEEE11073 and EN13606 available versions and tested in a laboratory environment to demonstrate the feasibility of an end-to-end standard-based solution.

As a prominent form of multimedia, image retrieval has become an important project research presently. Nowadays, the development of image search engine mainly bases on two kinds of technique: (1) traditional Text-Based Image Retrieval (TBIR); (2) Content-Based Image Retrieval (CBIR). However, because of the limitation of the ¿semantic gap¿ bottleneck, they both have limitations. In the light of this, we present an image retrieval method based on semantic network. We create a mapping from low-level image visual features to high-level semantic, and attempt to identify the semantic concept of visual features. We also introduce user feedback, guide search results to the optimal direction, and make it to fit the natural way for humans to understand image. The technology requires the use of the knowledge library for storing semantic networks and mapping. In this paper, the system model, retrieval method and experiments are given. Experimental results indicate that the method have better retrieval efficiency.

The development of high performance computing has posed a tremendous demand on storage capacity and I/O performance, storage system has entered the Petabyte era. Application demands drive the change of storage architecture. Object-based storage is becoming the new direction of massive network storage systems. Object-based storage combines the advantages of SAN and NAS, adopts an object-based interface, and offloads some work of traditional file system to intelligent object-based storage devices, so greatly enhance the performance, reliability, and scalability of storage system. On the other hand, because the storage system scale of high performance computing is very large, the amount of storage nodes is very huge, so features such as power, size and weight have been the factors that cannot be neglected. This paper aims at the key component of object-based storage system - object storage controller, and proposes a novel design of object storage controller based on SOC. Measurement results show that the object storage controller designed by us not only optimize the performance of object-based storage system, but also has advantage in the respects of power, size and weight, so it's very suit for building the object-based storage system for high performance computing.
