Some research results show that on average 67% of broadcasts for the maintenance of cache coherence in SMP systems are unnecessary. To reduce the unnecessary overhead of snoopy-based SMP systems,this paper proposes a new software/hardware hybrid cache coherence optimization—the programmer can insert special instructions into programs to direct related hardware to enable/disable broadcast operations,so some potential broadcasts for unshared variables are avoided without violating data coherence. We design the mechanism along with a proposed coherence protocol. Moreover,it is simulated on a SMP simulation platform and the results show that the improvement is apparent. Although the insertion is manual,it accords with the existing SMP programming model.

The present paper deals with design and development of a generalized parametrizable modulator (GPM) that can perform Gaussian minimum shift keying (GMSK) modulation and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) modulation in a reconfigurable baseband modulator for software defined radio (SDR) architecture. GMSK is the underlying modulation scheme for the global system for mobile (GSM) standard, while QPSK technique is the basic modulation scheme for code division multiple access (CDMA) standard. Although GMSK is an inherently non-linear modulation technique, the present work uses a linearly approximated GMSK technique to take the advantage of the simplicity of the filter structure. The normalised error in amplitude as a function of modulation index and bandwidth time product has been simulated. The proposed GPM is capable of working at a maximum data rate of 13.75 Mbps, thus satisfying the requirements of almost all 2G and 3G air interface standards. The GPM can perform QPSK using four pulse shaping filters, two raised cosine (RC) filters and two root raised cosine (RRC) filters. The proposed GPM architecture is implemented on a Spartan 3E starter kit.

In live peer-to-peer (P2P) streaming, each peer (child) has a number of supplying parents whose packets have to be scheduled and delivered in time for continuous playback at the child. It is challenging to develop a scheduling algorithm that achieves low delay given heterogeneous bandwidth, propagation delays and available content in all the parents. This paper proposes a novel, simple and effective scheduling scheme called pattern-push. As compared to the traditional mesh-pull, pattern-push does not require continuous buffermap advertisements from the parents, and operates on the packet level instead of the larger segment level. In pattern-push, each parent pushes its packets according to a pattern as indicated by a starting packet ID and a cycle bitmap. Pattern-push requires only minimal feedback from the child, as the pattern only needs to be changed when the child detects a marked change in network conditions or its parents. Simulation results show that pattern-push achieves a significantly lower delay and overhead as compared with both traditional and recent scheduling algorithms proposed in the literature.

This paper we propose a new rehabilitation training support system of upper limbs with the teaching/training function for personalized rehabilitation. The proposed teaching/training function enables the therapists to easily make not only training trajectories but also training programs to suit the individual needs of the patients. It is shown in this paper that three kinds of training programs requested by therapists can be made by using the teaching/training function. The algorithms of the teaching/training function are based on impedance control and data preprocessing. The availability of the teaching/training function is verified experimentally.

The proposed scheme presents the real time security managing methods that can be implemented using RFID, biometric and smart messaging. Entry doors to restricted areas are controlled using the biometric machines. Registered staff manages their entry through their RFID card, which is verified with biometric. The relay in the biometric reader will unlock the door if the verification is successful after comparing their duty roster timings. Staff details, time of entry/exit get recorded in the Oracle 10 g database which is used for their attendance processing. Any unauthorized attempt to open the door will get recorded immediately in the database and it activates the GSM modem to send SMS alert messages to the security staff mobile phones and to duty in charges mobile phones as recorded in the database. Interface to biometric reader is developed using software development kit (SDK), interface to GSM modem through AT commands and smart card programming & Oracle programming is made for server interface.
