A grid environment is a collection of a large number of geographically distributed resources managed by various organizations. And it is considered as a powerful computing infrastructure to solve large and complex problems. To support the software development, until now, many grid programming languages have been investigated. Most of them use proprietary protocols or TCP-based protocols to communicate. Connectivity, especially the network firewall and the heterogeneous interoperability is one of the big issues for grid applications and development tools. POP-C++, which is a programming language adding a new type of ¿parallel object¿ to C++, also faces the same problem in its communication protocol which heavily based on TCP socket/XDR. This research aims at providing POP-C++ a novel mechanism for objects to choose a suitable protocol and message encoding to communicate among them. Web Services, which is a broadly accepted standard, is a good choice because it is widely used in structuring interactions among distributed software services. Its communications mostly use SOAP buffer over HTTP protocol which is normally allowed in all firewalls. In this paper, we discuss an extension of POP-C++ toward HTTP/SOAP to overcome the connectivity issue.

With the number of services published over the Internet growing at an explosive speed,it is difficult for service requesters to select satisfactory web services,which provide similar functionalities,Quality of service(QoS) is considered the most important non-functional criterion for further service filtering,In this paper,we firstly give a web service description model that considers service QoS information,and then present an overall service selection and ranking framework with QoS(WSSR-Q) based on previous service description ***,service selection algorithm,ranking algorithm,and quality updating mechanism are proposed in detail concerning QoS attributes value,*** experiments demonstrate that proposed framework with QoS for service selection and ranking can satisfy service requesters' non-functional information requirements and achieve better web service selection effectiveness.

Ant colony optimization(ACO)is a population-based meta-heuristic for combinatorial optimization problems such as communication network routing problem(CNRP).This paper proposes an improved ant colony optimization(IACO),which adapts a new strategy to update the increased pheromone,called ant-weight strategy,and a mutation operation,to solve *** simulation result for a benchmark problem is reported and compared to the simple ant colony optimization(ACO).

3D virtual worlds are potent digital ecosystems because the 3D interface simulates real-world environments and the community of users creates a dynamic, real-to-life economy and in-world culture. Some virtual worlds such as Second Life empower users to generate in-world content through object building tools and programming languages; indeed the content in Second Life is entirely user-generated. This promotes a rich culture of innovation surrounding this emerging technology that continually develops the capabilities of the 3D digital ecosystem. The collaborative culture spans both the 3D in-world environment and 2D ecosystems: for example, Web 2.0 applications such as wikis and blogs facilitate support, discussion, and documentation for user-generated innovations. Innovation in 3D digital ecosystems such as Second Life are applied to all domains of human endeavour that exist in the real-world, including recreation, socialisation, commerce, and education. This paper shares the authorspsila professional experience using Second Life in tertiary information systems/science education. Case studies describe the specific applications. They are followed by discussion of the benefits of 3D digital ecosystems for education and suggestions for future research, development, and practice.

For applications in satellite systems, devices based on novel nanomaterials offer significant advantages over traditional technologies in terms of light-weight and efficiency. Examples of such novel devices include quantum dot (QD) based solar cells and photodetectors. However, the response of these devices to radiation effects is not well understood, and radiation effects modeling tools are not yet available. In this paper we review our numerical models and experimental investigation of radiation effects in quantum dot based solar cells. In the natural, high-radiation environment of space all solar cells suffer from degradation. Although some studies have been conducted, and test data collected, on the performance of solar cells in a radiation environment, the mechanisms of radiation-induced degradation of quantum dot superlattices (QDS) has yet to be established. We have conducted proton irradiation experiments to provide a direct comparison of radiation hardness of quantum dot based cells and regular solar cells. An approach to the development of Nano-scale technology computer Aided Design (NanoTCAD) simulation software for simulation of radiation effects in QDS-based photovoltaic (PV) devices is presented. The NanoTCAD tools are based on classical drift-diffusion and quantum-mechanical models for the simulation of QD PV cells.

Fault diagnosis of power transformer is important for safety of the device and relevant power *** the study,support vector machine(SVM)classifiers combined with the form of binary tree are applied to construct diagnostic model of power transformer,and the diagnostic system structure of power transformer is presented on the basis of the *** is a novel machine learning method based on *** is powerful for the practical problem with small sampling,nonlinear and high dimension,which is very suitable for online fault diagnosis of *** test results show that SVM has higher diagnostic accuracy than BP,IEC three ratios in fault diagnosis of power transformer.

In this paper,we proposed a double-level error resilient joint source-channel coding scheme for image ***,we inserted one coordinative component named error resilient entropy coding (EREC) between source coding and channel coding to achieve additional error resilient *** on the novel architecture,we proved that,in the aspects of computational complexity,coding redundancy and furthermore the decoding performance of image transmission,our scheme outperformed either separate source and channel coding scheme or joint source-channel coding scheme with synchronization words.

development in electrical power transmission system requires the use of circuit breakers with increasing breaking capacity. At present circuit breakers are to be installed on 245 kV to 1100 kV power system with short circuit ratings up to 120 kA. To test high voltage CBs, direct testing using the power system or short circuit alternators are not feasible. The testing of high voltage CBs of larger capacity requires very large capacity of testing station. To increase testing plant power is neither an economical nor a very practical solution. Synthetic testing is an alternative equivalent method for testing of high voltage circuit breakers and is accepted by the standards. This paper presents a TRV rating concepts, IEC standards TRV envelopes and types of synthetic test circuits and their comparison. Analysis and mathematical modeling of 4-parameters TRV synthetic test circuit is presented. In order to find the possible combinations of circuit components and to optimize the values of capacitance of capacitor banks for the desired frequencies of a particular rating of circuit-breaker, the program/software has been developed by using MATLAB and Visual Basic 6. Design and simulation of 4-parameters TRV synthetic testing circuit (Weil - Dobke type) is done by using PSIM simulator as per new TRV requirements given in IEC 62271-100 (2008). The circuit is designed and simulated for both terminal faults as well as short line faults test duty for 800 kV rating circuit-breakers.

Criminal activities cause a huge amount of loss both financially and in terms of human lives. Because of these acts, business and social sectors are struggling. This paper illustrates the development of an online sensor stream mining system that is able to analyze the situational behavior of all of the persons in specific areas and in turn propose real-time alert systems to take countermeasures. This system gathers different information from heterogeneous sensors, fuse that information, and generate real-time alerts to minimize the likelihood of disaster. These alerts and alarms assist security personnel in making appropriate decisions in real-time scenarios. The novelty of this approach comprises context-awareness with online diagnoses to take countermeasures in real-time to reduce the loss of lives, and damage to societies and economies. This technique makes the sensor stream mining process more dependable and increases the reliability of the overall system. To fulfill the objectives of this research, we incorporate lightweight online mining algorithms to extract useful but hidden information from the data gathered. Contextual information such as a person's pattern of movement, current location, personal profile, and area of residence are exploited to detect anomalous behaviors. The major goal of this research is to detect those persons performing malicious activities and in turn minimize society's exposure to risks and vulnerabilities.

Automatic font-written Optical Character Recognition (OCR) is highly desirable for numerous modern information technology (IT) applications. Reliable font-written OCR's for Latin scripts are readily in use since long. For cursively scripted languages, that are the mother tongues of over one fourth of the world population, such OCR's are however not available at a robust and reliable performance. In this regard, the main challenge is the mandatory connectivity of characters/ligatures (i.e. graphemes) that has to be resolved simultaneously upon the recognition of these graphemes. Among the various approaches tried over decades, Hidden Markov Models (HMM)-based OCR's seem to be the most promising as they capitalize on the ability of HMM decoders to achieve segmentation and recognition simultaneously similar to the widely used HMM-based automatic speech recognition (ASR). Unlike ASR's, what is missing in HMM-based OCR's is the definition of a rigorously founded features vector capable to robustly achieving minimal “font type/size-independent” (omnifont) word error rates comparable to those realized with Latin scripts. Here comes the contribution of this paper that introduces such a sound features vector design, and experimentally shows its superiority in this regard.
