Atlantic salmon fish farming has become a large industry worldwide. The industry's processes are examined, and the farming stages analyzed. Fish Farming Industry Simulation Model (FFISiM), a hierarchical, colored Petri net simulation model, was developed to simulate Atlantic salmon fish farming industry. The model simulates different companies' situations in the fish farming industry. Because the model is implemented in a hierarchical structure, it is easy to scale the model for future simulations, and refinements can be implemented in all levels of the model. Several possibilities for refinement and sub model development are proposed based on existing models or ongoing research areas. The FFISiM Seawater sub model is implemented in GPenSIM under MATLAB environment. Simulation of several cases from the fish farming industry with the seawater sub model show convincing results, and indicate that the model is well suited for simulating different situation that could occur in the Atlantic salmon fish farming industry.

Current trends in the manufacturing sector have greatly increased the need for portability and reusability in software systems for industrial control and automation. The IEC 61499 standard has emerged out of this need for a platform-independent way to develop industrial control systems. So far, typical IEC 61499 solutions have relied on some run-time environment that differ in the execution model for each implementation. This has resulted in code that is neither portable, nor efficient in terms of execution speed and memory footprint. Therefore, we present, instead, a synchronous model for function blocks, which removes the need for a run-time environment by making all event scheduling decisions during compile-time. This approach has been used to create a function block compiler, with two different back-end code generators. We present experimental results of a benchmark suite implemented using different code generators for different execution models, and show that our technique yields significant gains in efficiency over existing approaches.

At present, there are many fake and shoddy agricultural products. This phenomenon has seriously affected the country's agricultural production, producers, and consumers. To ensure that a healthy development of our national agricultural economic order, the government spends a lot of human and financial resources on cracking down fake products every year. In view of this situation, a RFID-based anti-counterfeiting system for agricultural production is proposed based on current electronics and computertechnology. The system is based on RFID technology, combining RFID reader, RFID tag and data management system. It can effectively detect fake and shoddy products through the whole procedure of production, processing, transportation, warehousing and trading. The design of system will protect the vital interests of producers and consumers of agricultural products, and it is also of a great significance to the development of national agricultural and economic order.

This study develop an appropriate equipment which could be used to capture the information of the field from upper ground. The equipment was constructed by three main units, namely sensing unit, controlled unit, and processing unit. The sensing unit was mounted in the remote controlled helicopter, and consisted of video camera and radio transmitter. Controlled unit was divided in two units, the control unit for controlling the helicopter, and control unit for controlling the video camera. While, the processing unit was built from a computer that connected with TV box for receiving, displaying, processing and storing the data that transferred from the radio transmitter at sensing unit. The result indicated that a high quality of image could be captured from relatively low altitude. Besides, the equipment was relatively cheap, remotted controlled, and could be moved or flying vertically and horizontally with slow movement, so high quality of information could be acquired.

The new computer code K-SKIN has been developed for use in skin dose assessment. The K-SKIN code calculates the dose distribution over the contaminated area using point kernels of monoenergetic electrons. These kernels are averaged over the beta spectra of contaminated radionuclides to obtain the dose distributions. Then, beta dose rates to the skin are calculated by numerical integration of point-kernel data over the contaminated area. Photon dose rates, if involved, are calculated using the specific gamma-ray constant for the radionuclides. Three predefined source types are arranged: point, disk, and cylinder. Backscattering correction, source self-shielding of a volume source, and reduction by the shielding material and air gap are considered during dose calculation. K-SKIN employs MATLAB as the coding tool and provides a graphical user interface. To verify K-SKIN, the dose rates from the point and disk source of several radionuclides over 1.0-cm(2) area at 70 mu m skin depth were calculated and compared with results obtained from another point-kernel code VARSKIN 3 and the Monte Carlo simulation code MCNPX. The calculated results agreed within +/-20%. The skin dose at various depths showed that the inclusion of energy-loss straggling in the point kernel improves the accuracy of the beta dose calculation at the deep region. The K-SKIN computer code will facilitate assessment of skin exposure at nuclear facilities.

Recent experiences in urban operations highlight the need for automated methods to help execute the data collection and association functions in the intelligence process. technologydevelopment in this area has been challenged by the heterogeneity of data to be processed and by the diversity of potential applications. Here, we report lessons learned during the creation of a hard/soft data set. The data set was built using "hard" physical sensor reports and "soft" documents captured during training exercises simulating urban conditions. We discuss data collection issues, and we examine the information elements that can be exploited from the data. A key product in the data set is the identification of threads of insurgent activities that were observed by both hard and soft sensing modalities. We discuss the process by which the threads were identified, including an annotation procedure that structures the text information to enable association with the hard information elements.

Modeling panicle growth dynamics and architecture formation in rice is of significant importance for realizing virtual and digital plant growth. Based on time-course observations on morphological properties of panicles (panicle length, length and number of primary and secondary branches, spikelet number on branches, and nodal distances of primary and secondary branches) on main stems and tillers under different nitrogen rates and water regimes with four rice cultivars, the change patterns of panicle morphology with growth progress and environmental factors were characterized, and a dynamic model was developed to simulate dynamic growth characters and morphological formation of different panicles on rice plant. Based on measuring and analyzing morphological structure of rice panicle, an architectural parameter-based geometrical model for rice panicle was developed by using 3D geometric modeling technology. The model included 4 submodels: panicle axis curve, panicle axis geometry, primary and secondary branch geometry, and spikelet geometry submodels. Based on the geometrical model for rice panicle and the platform of OpenGL, the dynamic growth processes of three-dimensional morphological structure of rice panicle was realized on the computer. Rice panicle visualization could lay a foundation for development of visual growth system in rice and be used for reference to the visualization of other crop.
