E-learning has become a major trend in the computer assisted teaching with the rapid development of Internet technologies. Web-based education is a very important component of education technology. One of the main advantage is the classroom and platform independence. Implementing Artificial Intelligence (Al) techniques to support efforts to improve the Web's intelligence and provide better services to the end users. In this study, three popular Al methods: Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Support Vector Machines (SVM), and Adaptive Network Based Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) were benchmarked in terms of effectiveness and performance within a Web-based environment. As the pilot test, "History of Civilization" class was selected. The question classification abilities depending on the item responses of students, item difficulties of questions, and question levels were determined by using Gaussian Normal Curve. Comparison study was conducted by considering the performance and class correctness of the sample questions (n=13) by using the given three inputs. The results showed that ANFIS has better performance than ANN and AVM in web-based education.

In deep space exploration, image compression plays an important role in maximizing returned scientific data. CCSDS adopts the methods based on Discrete Wavelet Transformation as the image compression standards because of its high compression ratio, progressive transmission and supporting lossless compressing. According to its feature, a new image compression scheme - Region of Interest encoding is presented for balancing the initial image acquiring rate, buffer size and data transmission rate on spacecraft in deep space communication. It is performed by which ROI is assigned with lower compression ratio, more storage space, and higher transmission priority. Thus it could be attained the goal of acquired image in deep space communication-maximizing information returning to the ground. And an optimized bit allocation method between ROI and Non-ROI is proposed according to rate-distortion model that is fit for progressive wavelet coding rate and distortion. Based on taking 2-level priority as an example, an optimized bit allocation method between ROI and Non-ROI is discussed. Simulation results show that the performance of the scheme is satisfying.

This study aimed to focus on the outdoor performance ratio (PR) and the relationship between PR, module temperature and irradiance for (a-Si) and polycrystalline silicon (poly-Si) located in Thailand. The result of this study revealed that the PR of a-Si increased during the summer and reached the highest value in the rainy season. For a 3-year period investigation, average PR of a-Si showed higher values than the PR values at standard test condition (STC) and also higher than the PR of poly-Si. However, during winter, PR value of a-Si gradually decreased. The lowest PR value occurring in winter was lower than the highest value occurring in rainy season by 7 .0 %. In addition, during summer and rainy periods from 2006 to 2007, the PR value of a-Si degraded by approximately 0.5% whereas it declined by 2% from 2008 to 2009 in winter. Furthermore, the results also indicated that the PR value of poly- Si decreased when the temperature increased. In addition, both types of solar cell have the same behavior of Voc and Isc based on the influence of intensity and temperature.

We present the design and implementation of AppScale, an open source extension to the Google AppEngine (GAE) Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) cloud technology. Our extensions build upon the GAE SDK to facilitate distributed execution of GAE applications over virtualized cluster resources, including Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS) cloud systems such as Amazon's AWS/EC2 and EUCALYPTUS. AppScale provides a framework with which researchers can investigate the interaction between PaaS and IaaS systems as well as the inner workings of, and new technologies for, PaaS cloud technologies using real GAE applications.
