Global Software development (GSD) is an emerging trend in which virtual teams work on the same projects at a distance. Despite the advantages of this shift, the collaboration between distant members becomes more difficult. Team members interact by using collaborative tools, and this collaboration is affected by time, cultural and language differences. These drawbacks lead to the need to train students and software engineers in the new collaborative skills required. These skills can only be trained by involving learners in practical experiences, but this is not always possible since it necessitates collaboration with distant institutions (universities/firms). We have focused our work on the development of a tool with which to train these skills through the use of a virtual training environment for GSD that avoids this difficulty by placing learners in virtual GSD scenarios in which they will develop the skills needed to work on global software projects.

In large-scale monitoring applications, randomly deployed wireless sensor networks may not be fully connected. Using mobile sink for data collection is one of the feasible solutions. For energy saving, it is necessary to plan a shortest route for the mobile sink. Mobile sink routing problem can be regarded as a special case of TSP with neighborhoods (TSPN) problem. In this paper, we propose a novel approximation algorithm called Race Track. This algorithm forms a "racetrack" based on the TSP route, which is constructed from the locations of the deployed sensor nodes. By using inner lane heuristic and concave bend heuristic of auto racing, and a shortcut finding step, we optimize the obtained TSP route within O(n) computation time. Through formal proofs and large-scale simulations, we verified that our Race Track algorithm can achieve a good approximation ratio.

A new approach is proposed in this paper that describes the development of flexible rolling technology in industrial processing of C - Mn and Low C - microalloyed steels. Scientific knowledge of industrially-significant processes for these materials is presently fragmented and scattered in published literature, which causes impediment to process innovation and optimization. In the current work, it is demonstrated that new process sequences could be developed by breaking down existing process routes in to key elements and then by recombining them to generate novel alternative and more efficient hot processing sequences. The proposed methodology establishes a platform for a more realistic assessment of existing process routes and the development of new hybrid process routes that combine ideas from alternative processes. This enables the identification of an optimal process sequence for specified steel compositions that also satisfies simultaneous design criteria such as process feasibility and property maximization. Application of the proposed algorithm in industrial-scale rod rolling of a medium C-Mn steel is demonstrated and discussed.

Making applications Grid-aware (or Grid-enabled) requires the knowledge of the API of different Grid middlewares. The complexity of these systems, both in terms of underlying technology and functionality, remains high. Moreover, Grid middlewares like Globus and UNICORE are still undergoing many changes. Grid Application Toolkit (GAT), a high-level API for accessing Grid services, provides application developers with a unified, simple and middleware-independent interface to the Grid. In this paper, we present a newly developed adaptor for GAT to access UNICORE services. We also describe how the data management client DataFinder has been Grid-enabled with GAT to access remote files and submit computational jobs to the Grid. DataFinder provides primarily an easy-to-use tool for scientific data management in distributed environments. Within the project AeroGrid, a BMBF-funded project in the German D-Grid initiative, DataFinder is being used as user interface for performing complex simulations in a UNICORE-based Grid infrastructure.

To cope with the challenges of product quality design system applied in new product development (NPD), a new method of quality control for NPD-collaborative quality design mode, which integrates voice of customer, quality function deployment (QFD) and failure modes and effect analysis (FMEA), and corresponding functional modules and framework were all put forward. This mode dealt mainly with constructing and running collaborative quality design system, integrated several enabling technologies such as the integration of QFD and FMEA, task distribution of quality design, integrated technology of computer-supported-collaborative work (CSCW). On the basis of these, applying Java, JSP and JavaServlet to the system, improve working efficiency and shorten the development cycle so as to respond to the fluctuation of market demands as quick as possible. With the development of digitalized manufacturing (DM), on-machine inspection (OMI) has become the key link of integrated quality system in DM. In DM, The detection and monitoring system chiefly dealing with kinds of parameters in machining process, taking on-line detection, analyzing the process quality information and carrying out corresponding quality assurance, so the quality of product may be assured and DM can be run in good condition. Therefore, the OMI technology of machining center based is researched. The framework of OMI and the hardware structure of special driving card for probe or tool (SDCPT) are described. computer aided inspection planning (CAIP) is the integration bridge between CAD/CAM and computer aided inspection. A feature-based CAIP system for OMI is proposed to inspect the complicated mechanical parts efficiently during machining or after machining. The CAIP system is designed to produce an inspection process planning directly from CAD model. The prototype CAT system includes the tolerance feature analysis, accessibility analysis, feature identification, measurement planning, and collision detection. The CAIP system can minimize the number of part setups and probe orientations and the inspection feature sequence.
