Since 3D models have been used in wide range of industries, such as entertainment, architecture, medical, etc, the availability of tools to ease the creation of 3D models is important. This paper proposes and implements an algorithm for converting 2D image into sequence of curves on 3D flat model. This work is a part of a system for applying detail features captured from 2D image into 3D model. With 2D image as the input and 3D flat model containing sequences of curves as the output, the main processes in our algorithm are edge detection, connected-component labeling, finding list of control point's curves, mapping 2D canvas into 3D flat model, and drawing cubic B-spline curve which interpolates endpoints. The experiment shows that the curves on 3D model can approximate the shape-content of 2D image, and the processing time of algorithm is sufficiently fast.

In many interactive computer graphics applications, users are represented as virtual characters called avatars. Collision detection is a pre-requisite in interactive computer graphics application so that appropriate response and realistic behaviour can be generated. However, it will not be easy to anticipate collisions since objects' motion are dependant on user interaction and avatar manipulation. Ideally, collision detection needs to be done efficiently, with accurate result in the shortest time possible. However, due to its computationally intensive nature, collision detection could cause a bottleneck to the system. A variety of techniques, data structures and algorithms were proposed to accelerate the collision detection process. Acceleration data structures are widely used not only to promote faster collision detection, but also in the field of ray tracing and deformable objects simulation. This paper discusses the use of bounding volume hierarchy as an acceleration data structure in collision detection for avatar in virtual environment, as well as similar methods used in interactive ray tracing and deformable objects simulation. Based on these findings, method for fast bounding volume hierarchy construction is proposed as a first step towards efficient avatar collision detection.

This paper addresses a new restoration mechanism in drop region of EPON network by using the optical switch device to increase the efficiency, survivability and reliability of fiber to the home (FTTH) customer access network. The developed device will be installed at the drop section to detect the failure line that occurs in the multi-line drop section of FTTH network downwardly from passive optical splitter to the customer premises (ONU). The drop section restoration mechanism called smart drop restoration scheme (SDRS) will contribute for tree based and bus based architecture. Conventionally, the failure line of FTTH network can be measured using Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) upwardly from customer premises to the central office. The optical switches will be controlled by Access Control System (ACS). If the breakdown is the detected in drop section, ACS will recognize the related access line by the 3% tapped signal that is connected to every access line. The activation signal is then sent to activate the dedicated protection scheme. But if fault is still not restored, the shared protection scheme will be activated. Results from Optisystem software simulation will be presented so as to prove the solution feasibility.

integration of Geographical Information System (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) methods is one of the most important methods for detecting LULC’s change. In this study,with the support of GIS,RS technology and based on recent 10 years LULC data,the landscape pattern dynamics and regional spatio-temporal features related with the LULC change of three metropolis in Asian region,Zhangjiagang (China),Dehradun (India),and Hanoi (Vietnam) are analyzed. We mapping the LULC using supervised method with parallelepiped-maximum likelihood algorithm in ERDAS Imagine 9.1 of the study area based on three consecutive satellite images: Landsat TM,Landsat ETM+ and ASTER. The regional feature of the three cities illustrates different development direction,and the urbanization process of the cities was at different stages. Zhangjiagang was found at the highest stage of urbanization,and with the significant high per capita income level. Hanoi and Dehradun were demonstrated a moderate degree of urbanization and extensive land alternation of agricultural and non-used land to urban area. In Hanoi,Vietnam’s capital city,urban agriculture is a longstanding feature,but rapid urban growth is leading to greater competition over land use. In Dehradun,urban areas increased from 96.15 ha to 150.23 ha while agricultural areas decreased from 91.59ha to 45.33ha from 2000-2009. Urban class showed an overall amount and extent of change from 28023 ha to 33215 ha while agricultural areas decrease from 45031 to 41173 during 2002-2010 in Zhangjiagang. As the result,the issue of low quality and security of food was concerned in these three areas. Government support has encouraged urban producers to modernize and invest in safer developing practices. However,in these cities,as indeed elsewhere,there is an urgent need to recognize the significance of sustainable development,agriculture and native forest area reservation in future planning strategies. With the evolution of technology, and especially of the Internet, a growing interest has appeared for online education. The many advantages of e-Learning have made this teaching philosophy an ideal partner for teachers, either as a complement to regular education or as a substitute for traditional education. The development of an e-Learning system poses extra challenges for software developers, since there are other facets, such as contents and user tracking, not usually considered in software development methodologies. In this paper eLearniXML approach to the development of e-Learning systems is presented. This approach enriches the development of e-Learning systems method proposed in ADDIE with the model-based development of user interfaces and software quality consideration. By doing so, we aim at the development of, what we have named, a Model-Based Instructional development Environment (MB-ISDE), to include e-Learning development in the current trends of model-based software development. The Space Solar Telescope (SST) will carry five instruments as the payload on board a satellite, which imposes great challenges on the SST payload EGSE (Electrical Ground Support Equipment) development in both the engineering and technical aspects. To meet those challenges, a platform based EGSE development method is proposed. The basic principle is to develop the SST payload EGSE with a modular architecture and on a re-usable software platform. This paper describes the experiences gained during the preliminary design and implementation which was carried out in parallel with the hardware development.
