In some textile machines, fabric is an inseparable element for motion and force transmitting. But the existing mechanical simulation software cannot model the fabric. This paper proposes a new cloth simulation method by blurring machinery (rigid) and cloth (soft) boundaries. This approach simulates the soft with tiny rigid bodies, large deformation with small ones. It aims to integrate the cloth modeling to the mechanical simulation system. Finally, we establish a cloth simulation model on the mechanical modeling and simulation platform, which is an embodiment of our integrated concept.

Digital workflows from the design to the production of buildings have received significant recent attention in architectural research. The need for both integrated systems for design collaboration (Boeykens and Neuckermans, 2006) and clear and flexible communication flows for nonstandard fabrication outcomes have been identified as fundamental (Scheurer, 2010). This paper reports on the development of a digital "design system" for the design and prototyping of an acoustic enclosure for meetings in a large open work environment, the FabPod. The aim was to keep this system open for temporal flexibility in as many aspects of the finalisation of the design as possible. The system provides novel examples of both integrated collaboration and clear communication flow. (1) Acoustics is included as a design driver in early stages through the connection of digital simulation tools with design models. (2) Bi-directional information flows and clear modularisation of workflow underpins the system from design through to fabrication and assembly of the enclosure. Following the completion and evaluation of the FabPod prototype, the openness of the system will be tested through its application in subsequent design and prototyping iterations. Design development will respond to performance testing through user engagement methods and acoustic measurement.

This paper describes a method for building efficient representations of large sets of brain images. Our hypothesis is that the space spanned by a set of brain images can be captured, to a close approximation, by a low-dimensional, nonlinear manifold. This paper presents a method to learn such a low-dimensional manifold from a given data set. The manifold model is generative brain images can be constructed from a relatively small set of parameters, and new brain images can be projected onto the manifold. This allows to quantify the geometric accuracy of the manifold approximation in terms of projection distance. The manifold coordinates induce a Euclidean coordinate system on the population data that can be used to perform statistical analysis of the population. We evaluate the proposed method on the OASIS and ADNI brain databases of head MR images in two ways. First, the geometric fit of the method is qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated. Second, the ability of the brain manifold model to explain clinical measures is analyzed by linear regression in the manifold coordinate space. The regression models show that the manifold model is a statistically significant descriptor of clinical parameters. (C) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

In recent years, the rapid development of diffuse optical tomography (DOT) technology has made possible many successful applications in the field of biomedicine, such as breast cancer detection and observation of oxygenated hemoglobin distribution in the brain. In this work, we build an inexpensive and portable real-time continuous wave near-infrared (CW-NIR) DOT system hardware suitable for use in system on a chip (SOC) applications. With greatly reduced system volume, the system can pave the way for practical developments in the clinical setting. The proposed system processes digitized biomedical signals acquired from a front-end sensor circuit, and can operate in either continuous or discontinuous mode according to user settings. Finally, we demonstrate the improvements in image reconstruction associated with the two-dimensional (2D) post-processing technique employed in the proposed system.

This paper aims to present a practical and fast way for planning. In the session of visual orientation for spatial location, MicronTracker camera and self-calibration template are used for positioning;in the session of tracking and locating for four markers on patient and robot's template, the coordinates of them are extracted automatically;in the session of DICOM medical image processing, the contour of the tumor is extracted automatically, in terms of the seed filling algorithm, contour tracking algorithm and the B-spline fitting function. Coordinates transformation from the image space to the camera space and to the robot space can be completed rapidly and precisely through this method. Experimental results show that the traditional from 25 to 30 minutes planning time for the entire operation can be reduced to 5 minutes;the space mapping accuracy can be improved from the traditional 5mm to 4mm now.
