The article focus on an application of chemical engineering. A fuzzy modeling methodology designed to determinate two relevant characteristics of a chemical compound (ferrocenylsiloxane polyamide) for self-assembling - surface tension and maximum UV absorbance measured as temperature and concentration functions. One of the most important parts of a fuzzy rule-based inference system for the polyamide solution characteristics determinations is that it allows to interpret the knowledge contained in the model and also to improve it with a-priori knowledge. The results obtained through proposed method are highly accurate and its can be optimized by utilizing the available information during the modeling process. The results showed that it is feasible in theory and reliable on calculation applying Mamdani fuzzy inference system to the estimation of optical and surface properties of a polyamide solution.

In the paper an idea of a computer aided decision support system for the maintenance of water distribution system is presented. The system uses mathematical models for computer simulation, optimization and control of all links composing the complex system of drinking water management realized in waterworks. The developed methods and algorithms are briefly described. With the system proposed an active control of waterworks could be carried out, whereas the systems applied up to date in waterworks work without any models. They make only a passive control of waterworks' separated objects, i.e. they try to stabilize the parameters of different processes on the given levels of values. The aim of the paper is to indicate a new direction in the field of computer aided decisions making for maintenance of waterworks.

Virtually all engineering firms providing water distribution system analysis services use computermodeling software tools. The market offers many software packages, ranging from simple to complex, with capabilities of interfacing with other software such as computer aided drafting, transient analysis, water quality analysis, blending analysis and other features that enhance the model's capabilities. To properly use and interpret the output of the software, the user should have a fundamental knowledge of the basic concepts of hydraulics, the principles used to analyze a hydraulic network and familiarity with the features of the software being used to analyze a system. Indeed, those with experience in balancing small networks by hand using iterative analysis, such as the Hardy-Cross method of analyzing pipe networks, have an advantage in that the concepts of how a hydraulic system balances becomes known through painstakingly calculating and recalculating losses and redistributing flows in networks. This paper references two case studies where an existing network model prepared by others was modified and revised to analyze changed conditions in the projects. Project A was originally prepared by a professional engineering firm and included substantial raw data, electronic files, and a report describing the approach and analysis of the output. The project was then modified by another professional in the same firm. The documents as received by the authors were sealed by a professional engineer. Project B was supposedly originally prepared by an engineering consultant and modified over time by the municipality. The authors received the model and limited supporting data from the municipality. The following discussion includes considering the reliability of the each model's source, identifying existing errors, and simple checks that can allow one to build confidence in a model's accuracy.
