Deploying multimedia streaming over IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) can enable all kinds of user equipments to enjoy unified streaming service, without considering the differences of heterogeneous accessing methods. The combination of IMS and peer-to-peer (P2P) may help operators (especially telecommunication operators) to provide more scalable multimedia streaming. In this paper, we propose PMSAI, a novel P2P multimedia streaming architecture over IMS, in order to expand the capability of IMS multimedia streaming and reduce server side resource consumption, while restricting P2P traffic within local areas and trying best to keep standard IMS unchanged. To study how PMSAI performs, we also build a experimental system of live multimedia streaming. Carefully measurement study demonstrates the feasibility and effectiveness of PMSAI. To the best of our knowledge, PMSAI is the first P2P multimedia streaming architecture over IMS.

In this paper, we propose a novel quantum Clonal Selection Algorithm (NQCSA) which combines the traditional Clonal Selection Algorithm (CSA) and the improved quantum crossover for Traveling Salesman Problems (TSP). The NQCSA integrates the characteristics of both CSA and quantum mechanics. By using CSA which is derived from clonal selection theory, the solution space can be exploited and further explored parallel with more efficiency. Furthermore, the probability of local minimum can be reduced because of the quantum interference mechanics. The algorithm is applied to numerous bench-mark problems of TSP and the obtained results show effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

With number of I/O servers increasing, the load imbalance among them becomes an emerging challenge in using high-end computing system effectively. But most of contemporary file systems like PVFS2 and Lustre lack load balancing to optimize parallel I/O performance when facing large number of I/O servers. To address this problem, this paper proposes selfacting load balancing for parallel file systems. The proposed self-acting load balancing builds on dynamic file migration, and borrows the ideas from intelligent computing to enable automatic load balancing. Furthermore, in order to support promising scalability, the self-acting load balancing is fundamentally based on distributed architecture, which also permits parallel file migrations to accelerate balancing progress. By taking PVFS2 as basic platform, we implement the self-acting load balancing, and the experiments show that PVFS2 with self-acting load balancing can reduce the average response time and improve performance of parallel I/O obviously compared with original PVFS2.

Mobile Ad Hoc networks (MANET) is a kind of network in which all the nodes can move randomly. As a new wireless communication network, MANET has attracted broad attention in recent years. But traditional distributed routing algorithm, which focuses on nodes, is complicated and huge in computation quantity, causes decline in performance of real-timing, throughput, ETE delay, network QoS, and etc. So, this routing algorithm is not suitable for MANET. Thus seeking a new MANET routing algorithm is of great significance for the research of MANET.

This paper introduces a novel routing protocol in Delay Tolerant networks (DTNs), aiming to solve the online distributed routing problem. By manipulating a collaborative reinforcement learning technique, a group of nodes can cooperate with each other and make a forwarding decision for the stored messages based on a cost function at each contact with another node. The proposed protocol is characterized by not only considering the contact time statistics under a novel contact model, but also looks into the feedback on user behavior and network conditions, such as congestion and buffer occupancy sampled during each previous contact with any other node. Therefore, the proposed protocol can achieve high efficiency via an adaptive and intelligent routing mechanism according to network conditions. Extensive simulation is conducted to verify the proposed protocol, where a comparison is made with a number of existing encounter-based routing protocols in term of the number of transmissions of each message, message delivery delay, and delivery ratio. The results of the simulation demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed technique.

In this paper, we present an application-level I/O caching, prefetching, asynchronous system to hide access latency experienced by HPC applications. Our solution of user controllable caching and prefetching system maintains a file-IO cache in the user space of the application, analyzes the I/O access patterns, prefetches requests, and performs write-back of dirty data to storage asynchronously. So each time the application needs the data it does not have to pay the full I/O latency penalty in going to the storage and getting the required data. We have implemented this caching and asynchronous access system on the Blue Gene (BG/L and BG/P) systems. We present experimental results with NAS BT, MADbench, and WRF benchmarks. The results on BG/P system demonstrate that our method hides access latency, enhances application I/O access time by as much as 100%, and improves WRF execution time over 10%.

It is difficult to implement distributed rendering on wide area network (WAN) because of limited-bandwidth and the asymmetric, heterogeneous resources. This paper presents a scalable architecture of asymmetric distributed animation rendering system based on WAN. Regarding the characteristics of WAN, two kinds of rendering group is proposed: cluster rendering group and unorganized PC rendering group. We also discuss key technologies, to provide a means of distributed rendering remotely at low cost.

The past several years have witnessed a significant interest in developing parallel CAD algorithms and implementations that exploit various multi-core and distributed computing hardware. In addition to fundamental parallel algorithm design, the ability in modeling parallel performance and facilitating runtime optimization is indispensable for achieving good efficiency for complex parallel CAD applications. Under the context of a recently developed hierarchical multi-algorithm parallel circuit simulation (HMAPS) framework, we demonstrate a runtime optimization approach that allows for automatic on-the-fly reconfiguration of the parallel simulation code. We show how the runtime information, collected as parallel simulation proceeds, can be combined with static parallel performance models to enable dynamic adaptation of parallel simulation execution for improved performance and robustness. Our results have shown that the proposed approach not only finds the near-optimal code configuration over a large configuration space, it also outperforms multi-algorithm circuit simulation assisted only with static pre-runtime parallel performance modeling.

In any systems or environments within a ubiquitous computing context that promotes the concept of users interaction or inter-organization communication, more specifically data sharing and takes users within such context as relevant contextual information, there is the potential for interactions between systems to occur that may affect the security of the overall system. We present a scenario that aims to highlight such potential problems, in particular the problem of security at sharing information and protecting profile building from such shared information. This scenario considers cooperation and interactions between individuals and systems that might occur in the context of a public event, such as a conference, crisis situation or entertainment event. Based on this we present a modelling tool able to highlight potential information sharing and profile building issues as well as access violations that might occur through the transfer of data between multiple individuals and suggest ways of defining policies dynamically and filtering only relevant contextual information for the user, to mitigate such a problem.

Research in large-scale distributed systems, such as P2P systems, often relies critically on simulations to validate research results. Though systems such as PlanetLab can be used to test on real networks in some cases, there are still significant practical challenges to evaluating large-scale distributed systems on actual hardware. Actual measured datasets such as the ones measured with King's method also have an important role, but often do not provide enough scale or are not representative of the network for which the research is intended. Typically, in such cases, tools such as GT-ITM are used to generate network topologies for the evaluation simulation. These tools work reasonably well at generating physical topologies that are representative of real systems. The behavior of distributed systems, however, depends not just on the physical topologies, but also the routing policies and other factors that affect latency and bandwidth. These aspects may have a considerable impact on any evaluation performed on the generated network, and can lead to significant differences between simulated performance and actual performance. In particular, triangle inequality violations and path inflation can adversely impact large-scale distributed systems. In this paper, we present techniques and approaches for adding such real-world effects to generated networks, in a parametrized approach. We show the parameters can be varied to generate a variety of networks with different characteristics, and compare them to measured datasets.
