Clustering protocol that is used in wireless sensor network is an efficient method that extends the lifetime of the entire network. However, when this method is applied to an environment in which collected data of the sensor node easily overlap, sensor nodes unnecessarily consumes so much energy. In the case of clustering technique that use a threshold, the lifetime of the network is extended but the degree of accuracy of collected data is low. Therefore it is hard to trust the data and improvement is needed. In addition, it is hard for the clustering protocol that uses multi-hop transmission to normally collect data because the selection of a cluster head node occurs at random and therefore the link of nodes is often disconnected. Considering the whole networks, nodes nearer the sink have to take heavier traffic load. Therefore, nodes around the sink would deplete their energy faster, leading to what is called an energy hole around the sink. Accordingly this paper suggested a cluster-formation algorithm that reduces unnecessary energy consumption and that works with an alleviated link disconnection. According to the result of performance analysis that used environment data, the suggested method lets the nodes consume less energy than the existing clustering method and the transmission efficiency is increased and the entire lifetime is prolonged by about 30%.

The rapidly expanding technology of cellular communications, wireless local area network (LAN), wireless data networks and satellite will give mobile users capability of accessing information anywhere and anytime. Data broadcasting algorithm plays an important role as it instructs the server to disseminate large amount of data at fast rate and send to many mobile clients. One of the work known as Broadcast Disk method is creating a sequence of slots containing data and broadcasting them in circular manner to the air. Mobile clients keep listening to the air and catch those slots that interest them. However based on Broadcast Disk method, some slots are empty, which results into bandwidth waste and client waiting time increment. Empty slots are randomly exists which difficult to locate. In this paper we enhance the Broadcast Disk method to overcome the empty slots aims to reduce the latency of users in accessing the service. We manage to locate these empty slots and fill them with popular data. We show by case studies and simulation that our scheme eliminates empty slots and minimizes client latency.

We present a novel Weighted Barrier Function (WBF) method of efficiently computing optimal grasping force distributions for multifingered hands. Second-order conic friction constraints are not linearized, as in many previous works. The force distributions are smooth and rapidly computable, and they enable flexibility in selecting between firm, stable grasps or looser, more efficient grasps. Furthermore, fingers can be disengaged and re-engaged in a smooth manner, which is a critical capability for a large number of manipulation tasks. We present efficient solution methods that do not incur the increased computational complexity associated with solving the Semi-Definite Programming formulations presented in previous works. We present results from static and dynamic simulations which demonstrate the flexibility and computational efficiency associated with WBF force distributions.

The autonomous nature of Mobile Ad hoc networks (MANETs) makes them suitable for the support of extreme emergency rescuer IP communications for next generation networks. A major hurdle towards the deployment of emergency MANETs (eMANETs) is the design of a distributed routing protocol that can adapt to its highly dynamic topology where the number of nodes in the network frequently varies. This paper presents ChaMeLeon (CML), a hybrid and adaptive routing protocol designed to adapt to the rapid topological changes in extreme emergency MANETs (eMANETs) when operating within a predefined disaster area. CML adaptively changes its routing behavior according to the number of nodes in the network, so that it can provide a more efficient routing approach than purely proactive or reactive routing protocols for varying size networks. The protocol can operate in one of three routing phases which are the reactive phase (R-phase) for large networks, proactive phase (P-phase) for small networks and oscillation phase (O-phase) for phase transitions based on a network size threshold. This threshold is determined using simulation based performance statistics of the purely reactive or proactive routing protocols. We then present results to demonstrate that CML outperforms its routing counterparts over the simulated range of network sizes and particular critical area.

Many P2P systems have been designed without taking into account an important factor: a large fraction of Internet users nowadays are located behind a network address translator (NAT) or a firewall, making them unable to accept incoming connections (i.e. unconnectable). Peers suffering from this limitation cannot fully enjoy the advantages offered by the P2P architecture and thus they are likely to get a poor performance. In this work, we present a mathematical model to study the performance of a P2P swarming system in the presence of unconnectable *** quantify the average download speeds of peers and find that unconnectable peers achieve a lower average download speed compared to connectable peers, and this difference increases hyperbolically as the percentage of unconnectable peers grows. More interestingly, we notice that connectable peers actually benefit from the existence of peers behind NATs/firewalls, since they alone can enjoy the bandwidth that those peers offer to the system. Inspired by these observations, we propose a new policy for the allocation of the system's bandwidth that can mitigate the performance issues of unconnectable peers. In doing so, we also find an intrinsic limitation in the speed improvement that they can possibly achieve.

In this paper, we propose four data mining models for the Internet of Things, which are multi-layer data mining model, distributed data mining model, Grid based data mining model and data mining model from multi-technology integration perspective. Among them, multi-layer model includes four layers: (1) data collection layer, (2) data management layer, (3) event processing layer, and (4) data mining service layer. distributed data mining model can solve problems from depositing data at different sites. Grid based data mining model allows Grid framework to realize the functions of data mining. Data mining model from multi-technology integration perspective describes the corresponding framework for the future Internet. Several key issues in data mining of IoT are also discussed.

Proxy signature is an important delegation technique. Since it was introduced in 1996, many variants of proxy signature schemes have been proposed. Among of them, the requirement of proxy signer's privacy protection and the revocation of proxy signer's anonymous identity are needful in some practical applications. Recently, Wang *** gave a new signature type: proxy ring signature with revocable anonymity. It allows that proxy signer anonymously produces a proxy signature. However, it is anonymous for the others except that the original signer can know exactly who is the actual proxy signer. Unfortunately, in this paper, by analyzing the scheme, we show that the scheme does not satisfy anonymity, that is to say, given an anonymous proxy signature, the others also can know the actual identity of proxy signer beside original signer. At the same time, it cannot also revoke anonymity of proxy signer's identity. Finally, we give the corresponding attacks on the scheme and the reasons to produce suck attacks.

The paper presents a new system used for starting the diesel engine of the LDH1250HP locomotive, for improving its performances, reliability and availability. The system developed uses rapid release storage devices, a power electronic unit and a computer linked with all the distributed system elements, by using Ethernet bus. Also, the paper describes an intelligent data acquisition system integrated with the starting system and developed to monitor the electrical parameters of the LDH1250HP locomotive. The proposed monitoring system allows evaluating the electrical locomotive parameters and the overall system performances. The details of implementation and the experimental results are also presented. The technical implementation allows a significant reduction of exploitation cost and carbon footprint of the locomotive.

We introduce DJ# - a language that can be used to program a Peer-to-Peer network using object-oriented techniques and Join methods. The object creation primitive of DJ# has two parameters, a class name and a peer name, allowing the programmer to create instances of any class on any node of the network. In the object-oriented programming spirit, DJ# objects can communicate by sending and receiving messages. As in Join Java or Polyphonic C#, both synchronous and asynchronous messages can be transmitted between distributed objects. The DJ# model provides a form of dynamic connectivity of interacting objects that can use Join methods to implement various communication mechanisms. The paper presents the design rationales and a formal operational semantics for DJ#.

The growth of Internet traffic has led to an increase in energy consumption by network equipment such as routers and switches. Consequently, energy consumption is becoming a key environmental, social, political and cost issue. Focusing on energy consumption by Internet Service Provider networks, the energy bottleneck is routers. Thus, it is imperative for us to reduce the energy consumption of routers. In this paper, we propose a new ECO-friendly distributed routing protocol (ECO-RP) based on OSPF. In our proposal, an ECO-RP entity periodically checks the amount of traffic forwarded by the ECO-RP entity. Moreover, an ECO-RP entity floods information on the amount of traffic to other entities such as the OSPF Link State Advertisement. This allows each ECO-RP entity to obtain information on traffic in the network, and to dynamically change OSPF link weights based on the information. For example, when the amount of overall network traffic is small, the entity changes link weights so that the traffic can be routed only through a subset of routers, and unneeded routers can shift into sleep mode. Several simulation studies, which assume two ECO-RP enabled networks, are conducted. The result shows that the proposed protocol is able to reduce energy consumption by about 18.5% at maximum without network congestion.
