The paper mainly deals with the design of hardware for an automatic fire fighting system, which aimed at closed combustible places. This system adopts single chip microcomputer with smoke sensor and temperature sensor as the detective devices. By using the single chip microcomputer, it can achieve the aim of automatic fire fighting. And, this system uses high pressured nitrogen as the fire extinguishing agent, which is economical and environment friendly. It accords with the human's needs of environmental protection. Some investigations suggest that nanoparticles are potentially the most dangerous because they can also penetrate deeper into lung tissue than other large particles. However, some researchers declare that the research on security of environmental nanoparticles should be on the basis of the standardization of investigation system. Therefore, it is significant to detect nanoparticles for both environmental evaluation and further treatment. In this paper, a method for iron oxide nanoparticle detection was investigated by a novel electrochemical device based on AAO nanopore membrane and preliminary results was taken out which may create novel avenues and applications for nanoparticle detection. The method using the sound caused by knocking the lumber to detect its damages has applied for a long time, but it mostly depends on the people's experience and the subjective elements which could cause great errors to the judgment of damage. This paper analyzed the relationship between the lumber vibration impulse response and acoustic radiation properties. The analysis results showed that lumber acoustic radiation time-domain and frequency-domain signal characteristics depend on the structural characteristics of lumber. By testing the lumber acoustic radiation properties, it was known that the differences of damage and its location could change the main vibration frequency, energy of the lumber and waveform of time-domain. In order to rapid, accurate and non-destructive identification in parcels in the digestive system of human body, the heroin, simulated skin and heroin covered by simulated skin have been investigated using energy dispersive X-ray diffraction (EDXRD) at different scattering angles and detection time, respectively. The respective diffraction profiles are obtained. The aim is to find out the optimum detection degrees and the shortest detection time to identify the heroin from simulated skin, and to provide the experimental basis for further identification in parcels in the digestive system of human body. The curves measured under different test time are analyzed by statistical method. The results indicate that the heroin can been confirmed at 14 degrees scattering angle within one minute. Nuclear Quadrupole Resonance (NQR) is a nuclear physical phenomenon. It is a solid-state radio frequency (RF) spectroscopic technique that can be used to detect narcotics and highly explosive substances. Unfortunately, there are limitations to NQR. The NQR signal is restricted by the low signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the presence of strong RF interference (RFI). The RFI can be reduced dramatically by shielding the search coil indoors. In this paper, numerical accumulation method is used to improve SNR of the weak NQR signal. According to the frequency characteristic of the background signal, AR method is used to estimate the power spectrum of the experimental background data. Then, the generalized matched filter is studied to enhance explosive detection. The experimental results show good performance of the proposed algorithm. (c) 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.

A microwave plasma torch - mass spectrometer (MPT-MS) method was developed to detect simultaneously three heavy metal components (lead, barium, antimony) of gunshot residues. The MPT technique was demonstrated and the method using MPT as ionization source of mass spectrometer was introduced. As expected, MPT-MS exhibits highly sensitivity and specificity for detection of elements. This study indicates that MPT-MS offers substantial potential for forensic gunshot residue examinations. Ion mobility spectroscopy (IMS) is an analytical technique based on multi-disciplinary such as analytical chemistry, electronics, nuclear technique, etc. It is used to separate and identify ionized molecules in the gas phase based on their ion mobility in a carrier buffer gas. In recent years, explosives and drugs become an increasing security risk. Ion mobility spectroscopy (IMS) is a sensitive and low cost device that very suits for explosives and drugs detection, especially in the rapid field detection. We implemented the whole system on a dual-core board including a digital signal processor (DSP) and a microcontroller unit (MCU) for a home-made IMS instrument. Since the ion mobility spectroscopy (IMS) outputting signal is highly introduced with noise and background signals, fast signal processing to separate the spectrum signal from big noise and to locate the peaks in such an embedded system is the most important work for meeting the real-time field detecting requirement. In this paper, the signal acquisition, control and data processing such as digital filtering, de-noising, background subtraction, peak searching are discussed in details. Experimental results show that all true peaks were accurately located from high noised spectrum, and whole circle processing time was less than 25ms, well satisfied system real-time requirement of 30ms recurrence time. Energy dispersive X-ray scattering (EDXRS) has been successfully applied for the identification of liquid materials for the first time. Three liquid systems of primary alcohols, ketones compounds and acids are carefully investigation and the scattering spectra are described. Based on structural and compositional differences of compounds, the scattering profiles of all samples exhibit characteristic shapes, indicating that EDXRS profile is unique to each specific liquid material. These findings imply that EDXRS would be promisingly applied as a non-invasive inspection for liquid identification. (C) 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
