We report on high-frequency wave injection experiments using the beat wave technique to study the generation of very-low-frequency (VLF) whistler waves in the ionosphere above Gakona, Alaska. This work is aimed at investigating whistler wave interactions with ionospheric plasmas and radiation belts. The beat wave technique involves injecting two X-mode waves at a difference frequency in the VLF range using the High-frequency Active Auroral research Program (HAARP) heating facility. A sequence of beat wave-generated whistler waves at 2, 6.5, 7.5, 8.5, 9.5, 11.5, 15.5, 22.5, 28.5 and 40.5 kHz were detected in our 2011 experiments. We present Modular Ultra-high-frequency Ionospheric Radar (MUIR) (446 MHz) measurements of ion lines as the primary diagnosis of ionospheric plasma effects caused by beat wave-generated whistler waves. A magnetometer and digisonde were used to monitor the background ionospheric plasma conditions throughout the experiments. Our theoretical and data analyses show that VLF whistler waves can effectively interact with ionospheric plasmas via two different four-wave interaction processes leading to energization of electrons and ions. These preliminary results support our Arecibo experiments to study NAU-launched 40.75 kHz whistler wave interactions with space plasmas. © 2013 The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences.

Recently, to concentrate superior education resources, many ultra-large-scale secondary schools are established around constantly, but in the process of construction and operation, many problems are exposed, due to the lack of design standards and experiences. At the same time, how to adapt to the concept of quality education and quality education method is the great challenge of the ultra-large-scale secondary architectural design in this stage. In the planning of XIFEI NO.1 high school, according to school development trends and learning from the advanced foreign countries, with systematic design methods and design concept of "schools within a school, resource sharing and walking system", the rational design of functional configuration and spatial organization for school buildings has been accomplished. In this plan, the core of the school is established with the multifunctional library and resource center, the function modules are established with the grade school districts to build the multi-level space for teaching, communicating and working. This is a positive exploration of the ultra-large boarding school planning and architectural design.

The study investigates the impact of financial deepening on economic growth in Nigeria. The study examines the causal relationship between financial deepening and Economic Growth in Nigeria for the period 1990-2011. The stationarity properties of the data and the order of integration of the data were tested using both the Augmented Dickey-Fuller (ADF) test and the Phillip-Perron (PP) test. The variables tested stationary at first differences. The Johansen approach of cointegration was applied to test for the long-run relationship among the variables. The result indicated four (4) cointegrating relations between the variables;the Granger-causality suggests that there is unidirectional causality running from economic growth to financial deepening in Nigeria. The study concludes that financial deepening has an impact on economic growth in Nigeria. This implies that developing the financial sector in Nigeria, improves financial structures and ensures efficient delivery of financial services to the private sector to invest to attract more private sector participation for increase output. The study recommends that policy makers should design the policies which will promote the financial and capital markets by removing obstacles that impede their growth and strengthen for healthy and competitive financial system.

The international CMS GEM collaboration is studying the feasibility of upgrading the CMS forward muon system by adding layers of triple GEM based detectors. After successful tests of small size tripe-GEM chambers in the period of 2010-2011, the collaboration has designed, built and tested full-size GEM chambers for the upgrade purpose. We report on results from test beam and simulation that were conducted to study the performance of the GEM chambers.

Ongoing advances in small-screen equipments and modeling counterpart, together with the currently available location awareness and improvements in wireless technologies, can be instrumental for effectively delivering textural, 2D and 3D information to mobile devices and the other media. The work described here deals with two particular aspects that contribute to visualise architectural models delivered to portable devices and represent in a paper-based format. First of all, the issues involved in this study is probing into the perception and understanding of users while visualising different representations on portable and paper-based formats. Secondly, the outcome reported in this paper is concerned with the applications and effects of the prototype design in the both formats. This study presents a set of elements that contribute to the delivery of the related representations and information to different media. © 2013 IADIS.

Most such software components are tools meant to be used within a development environment for constructing software. Other environments are middle-ware platforms and web browsers. research on plug-ins encompasses the characteristics that differentiate them from other types of software, their interactions with each other, and the platforms they extend.

This work presents the results of applying two clustering techniques to gene expression data from the mussel Mytilus galloprovincialis. The objective of the study presented in this paper was to cluster the different genes involved in the experiment, in order to find those most closely related based on their expression patterns. A self-organising map (SOM) and the k-means algorithm were used, partitioning the input data into nine clusters. The resulting clusters were then analysed using Gene Ontology (GO) data, obtaining results that suggest that SOM clusters could be more homogeneous than those obtained by the k-means technique.
