The NTFS journaling file($LogFile) is used to keep the file system clean in the event of a system crash or power failure. The log records operate on files or folders and leaves large amounts of information in the $LogFile. This information can be used to reconstruct operations and can also be used as forensic evidence. In this research, we present methods for collecting forensic evidence of timestamps and folder names relating to a folder's creation. In some of the related log records for creating a folder, four log records that have timestamps and folder name information that are 0x0E/0x0F(Redo/Undo op. code), 0x02/0x00, 0x08/0x00, and 0x14/0x14 were analyzed. Unfortunately, the structure of $LogFile is not well known or documented. As a result the researchers used reverse engineering in order to gain a better understanding of the log record structures. The study found that using basic information contained in the $LogFile, a forensic reconstruction of timestamp events could be created. © 2012 ICST Institute for computer Science, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Currently, most clinical knowledge is in free text and is not easily accessible to clinicians and medical researchers. A major grand challenge for medical informatics is the creation of a distributed, universal, formal, sharable, reusable, and computationally accessible medical knowledge base. The required knowledge consists of both procedural knowledge, such as clinical guidelines, and declarative knowledge, such as context-sensitive interpretations of longitudinal patterns of raw clinical data accumulating from several sources. In this position paper, I first demonstrate the feasibility of such an enterprise, and explain in detail the overall lifecycle of a clinical guideline, by reviewing the main current components and their respective evaluations of one such comprehensive architecture for management of clinical guidelines: The Digital Electronic Guideline Library (DeGeL), a Web-based, modular, distributed architecture that facilitates gradual conversion of clinical guidelines from text to a formal representation in chosen target guideline ontology. The architecture supports guideline classification, semantic markup, context-sensitive search, browsing, run-time application to a specific patient at the point of care, and retrospective quality assessment. The DeGeL architecture operates closely with a declarative-knowledge temporal-abstraction architecture, IDAN. Thus, there is significant evidence that building a distributed, multiple-ontology architecture that caters for the full life cycle of a significant portion of current clinical procedural and declarative knowledge, which I refer to as "the Human Clin-knowme Project," has become a feasible task for a joint, coordinated, international effort involving clinicians and medical informaticians. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Individual verifiability is the ability of an electronic voting system to convince a voter that his vote has been correctly counted in the tally. Unfortunately, in most electronic voting systems the proofs for individual verifiability are non-intuitive and, moreover, need trusted devices to be checked. Based on the remote voting system JCJ/Civitas, we propose Trivitas, a protocol that achieves direct and end-to-end individual verifiability, while at the same time preserving coercion-resistance. Our technical contributions rely on two main ideas, both related to the notion of credentials already present in JCJ/Civitas. Firstly, we propose the use of trial credentials, as a way to track and audit the handling of a ballot from one end of the election system to the other end, without increased complexity on the voter end. Secondly, due to indistinguishability of credentials from random values, we observe that the association between any credential and its corresponding vote can be made public at the end of the election process, without compromising coercion-resistance. The voter has more intuitive and direct evidence that her intended vote has not been changed and will be counted in the final tally. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

Shape-from-shading (SFS) is a class of three dimension shape reconstruction method from one or more images. The development of SFS method mainly depends on two factors named research on the reflectance models and computing algorithms. Most existing SFS methods are with Lambertian reflectance under orthogonal projection. This paper proposed new SFS shape reconstruction algorithm with hybrid reflectance model and perspective projection. Firstly, imaging map equation under perspective projection is formulated based on hybrid reflectance model. Then a static Hamilton-Jacobi(H-J) equation is used to describe the imaging map equation. The SFS problem turns into viscosity solution of static H-J equation. And the H-J equation is solved by fast sweeping numerical approximation method. At last, experiments are performed to illustrate the proposed method. Experimental results on the synthetic images show that the proposed method can deal with specular reflectance. Experimental results of our captured images show that the proposed method is effective when dealing with real image.

With the rapid development of economy and society in China, numerous human activities, including water pollution, overfishing, irrigation, etc., have had a tremendous negative impact on aquatic ecosystems. Ecosystem integrity had also been damaged to some extent, and many problems cannot be effectively resolved by using traditional methods. The research of the causes of changing in water biotic integrity had important practical significance for the sustainable development of China's economy and society. Therefore, there has been a lot of attention on controlling and repairing of water pollution, biotic integrity maintaining in the actual production, The use of new methods, a variety of methods for water pollution combined with analysis, health assessment has also gained great progresses in recent years. This paper reviews the research progress in controlling and protecting water environment and maintaining biotic integrity.

Indoor Positioning has been an active research area in the last decade, but so far, commercial Indoor Positioning Systems (IPSs) have been sparse. The main obstacle towards widely available IPSs has been the lack of appropriate, low cost technologies, that enable indoor positioning. While Wi-Fi infrastructures are ubiquitous, consumer-oriented Wi- Fi enabled mobile phones have been missing. Conversely, while Bluetooth technology is present in the vastmajority of consumermobile phones,Bluetooth infrastructures have been missing. Bluetooth infrastructures have typically been installed as part of complete hardware-/software IPSs that often incur a substantial hardware cost. Furthermore, Bluetooth has low power consumption compared to Wi-Fi devices, which promotes longer battery life-time on mobile phones. In this paper, we present a Bluetooth IPS based entirely on commodity-grade products. The positioning accuracy is evaluated by using the so-called location fingerprinting technique which is well-known from Wi-Fi positioning literature. The results show that 2 meters median accuracy is achievable - a result that compares favourably to results for Wi-Fi based systems. © 2012 ICST Institute for computer Science, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

Advances in virtual server internetworking and the Internet have been accompanied by increased incidences of computer related crimes for such domains. At the same time, the number of sources of potential evidence in any particular cloud computing forensic investigation has grown considerably, as evidence of the occurrence of relevant events can potentially be drawn not only from multiple computers, networks, and electronic systems but also from disparate personal, organizational, and governmental contexts. Potentially, this leads to significant improvements in forensic outcomes but is accompanied by an increase in complexity and scale of the event information, particularly since such information is treated as composite events. In order for digital investigators to effectively administer the virtual machine(VM) environments they need to have automated methods for correlating and synchronizing such event data as a critical concern. The contribution of the paper is the provision of a University case study of our ongoing work that integrates an automated detection of a computer forensic scenario for virtual network server clouds. This is work based upon facts derived from digital events synchronized within the VM environment. We use our preliminary case evaluations to present the formal parameterized context for which such VM log events are likely to occur based on the event condition action (ECA) paradigm adopted from work done in [16][19]. © 2012 ICST Institute for computer Science, Social Informatics and Telecommunications Engineering.

A new kind of 3-d.o.f. vibration platform is introduced, which may be used in active vibration control, presion manufacturing, and other precision positioning fields. The platform is mainly comprised of four parts: the top board of the platform, flexure hinges, amplification mechanisms and gaint magnetostrictive actuators(GMAs). Among them, finite element analysis is taken on flexure hinges;the constitutive model of GMA is described. Eventually, the dynamic model of the system is established. According to the model, a simulation system based on SIMULINK is carried out. The simulation results verify the model, and may serve for the active control analysis of the platform system.

This paper describes a technique to enhance a region-of- interest (ROI) in a capsule endoscopy (CE) image. Our aim is to improve distinguishing suspicious regions from normal ones without over-enhancing the image. Given a ROI by physicians, the proposed technique enhances the ROI so that the enhanced region remains as natural as possible. To achieve this, we utilize image features relating to a specific color space dedicated to gastrointestinal (GI) wall regions. The proposed approach starts by utilizing a self-organizing map to handle GI wall color components. The goal of preserving the original color tones is obtainable by using a histogram equalization technique in the proposed color space. As a result, the enhanced images only contain color components inferred from the color gamut of the human small bowel. The results of the proposed method are judged in terms of visual appearance by comparison with images obtained by the conventional enhancement technique. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.
