To a great extent, the performance and robustness of automated face recognition systems are impacted by within-class variations between gallery and probe images acquired in a variety of conditions. In particular, changes of illumination and facial expression contribute mainly to these intrapersonal variations of facial images. In this paper, an effective preprocessing scheme is proposed for face recognition based on local Gabor binary pattern histogram sequence (LGBPHS). The scheme to normalize within-class variations incorporates a Gamma correction transformation and a local normalization procedure. The experimental results obtained on FERET face database show that the preprocessing scheme significantly improves the recognition performance, superior to several existing preprocessors. Furthermore, in the comparisons our method impressively outperforms state-of-art face identification techniques. © 2012 ieee.

Student satisfaction is increasingly becoming an important indicator in the evaluation of university management performance. And how to improve student satisfactory degree of university service products and how to gain the source of excellent student in the domestic and international market is a strategic initiatives to determine the survival and development of university. The purpose of this paper is to answer what student satisfaction is, what its formation mechanism and how to assess student satisfaction. Firstly this paper discusses the connotation, formation mechanisms and constitution of student satisfaction by utilizing psychological theory and method. Secondly, this paper has established the evaluation index system of university service product student satisfaction its grey category and whitening function by using grey evaluation method. Finally. This paper focuses on university service products student satisfaction measurement. The innovative point of this paper consists in having established a grey evaluation model of university service product student satisfaction and having provided a new judgment criterion in order to evaluate the performance of university management. © 2012 ieee.

An optimal proportional-integral-derivative (PID) controller for unstable process was introduced in this work. Internal model control (IMC) could achieve robustness and dynamic performance for stable process, while determination the filter time λ was a problem as before, especially for unstable process. This work proposed a modified internal model control (MIMC) for unstable first-order plus delay time (UFOPDT) process, and the MIMC was realized by an equivalent PID controller. Analyzing the integral of absolute error (IAE) and the maximum sensitivity (Ms) of these control systems, here find that the traditional IMC could not have the optimal robustness or the optimal performance. A robust performance index using the IAE weighted by Ms was presented. With an empirical weighted factor of this index, the PID parameters were optimized and its fitting formula was obtained for UFOPDT processes. Simulation results show that the proposed PID control system has good dynamic performance and proper robustness. © 2012 ieee.

In this paper, we present an effective method for facial expression recognition (FER), which is based on adaptive local binary pattern (ALBP) and sparse representation. The new algorithm first solves sparse representations on both raw gray facial expression images and adaptive local binary patterns (ALBP) of these images. Then we can obtain the two expression recognition results on both expression features. Finally, the final expression recognition is performed by fusion of the two results by comparing the residual ratios of sparse representations. The experiment results on Japanese Female Facial Expression (JAFFE) database demonstrate that the proposed fusion algorithm is much better than other methods such as Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA) + Support Vector Machine (SVM), Kernel Principal Component analysis (KPCA) + SVM, and the performance also improves obviously compared with the direct sparse representation approach. © 2012 ieee.

In order to effectively analyze the torsional vibration characteristics of turbo-generators, a measurement and analysis system for torsional vibration is constructed using virtual instrumentation. The hardware framework is configured via PXI system. The system software is developed through LabVIEW language. The measurement system records speed signals from the turbo-generators and extracts directly the total torsional vibration from the speed signals utilizing zero-phase digital filter. It seperates torsional vibration modes from the total torsional vibration and analyzes the corresponding characteristics of each mode. This measurement system has been employed in several power system field tests since the end of the last year. To verify the performance of the measurement system, data from the field tests are selected for analysis. The results show that the torsional vibration measurement system detects the torsional vibration of turbo-generators accurately and the system fulfills the practical application demands. © 2012 ieee.

Recently, sparse representation based recognition (SRC) has been widely used and made great success in face recognition. SRC first represents a testing face image by a sparse linear combination of all the training images, and then classifies the testing sample by evaluating which class leads to the minimum representation error. However, just choosing the minimum error as the rule of classification is usually not robust for noise, gesture varieties and illumination as the images built by the true class may be disturbed and the error may be bigger than the false class. What's more, sparse coding is a collaborate representations process, so it tends to get the wrong way when coding the test images. This paper introduces a two layers classifier to get the labels: the first layer chooses the labels of the n minimum errors rebuilt by SRC, and the second uses some classifiers (e.g., NN or NS) to get the true label in the n classes. Through our experiments on face 94 and AR database, the recognition rate is improved by five or more percent. © 2012 ieee.

In this paper, a novel adaptive bandwidth object tracking using sparse approximation is proposed in mean shift framework. In this framework, occlusion, illumination and other challenging issues are addressed seamlessly in real time through bandwidth approximation. To find the tracking target at a new frame, a two step method is used iteratively to find the most probable target candidate position. The first step is to find an appropriate bandwidth which best describes the region range of the object using sparse representation, and the second step is to find the target position using mean shift object tracking framework which has been given the appropriate bandwidth in the first step. In addition, we improve the convergence properties of the mean-shift by approximating the region range of target in the iterative update mechanism. The proposed approach shows excellent performance in comparison with originally proposed trackers. © 2012 ieee.

Based on the medicine image characteristic, this paper has made the related improvement to the insufficiency which exists in view of its image mosaic algorithm. This paper has designed one kind of image mosaic algorithm which has quick speed, high precision and strong robustness. This paper has studied image mosaic algorithm based on the regional characteristics matching, through extracting image characteristic and using fuzzy set identification mode to find the similar region, it can definite matching mosaic image. The experimental result has indicated that the algorithm proposed in the article can complete the medicine image mosaic precisely and quickly, which has achieved satisfactory mosaic effect. © 2012 ieee.

Background extraction is a fundamental task in many computer vision applications. This paper presents a novel method based on K-means Clustering Algorithm. First, the intensity values are divided into several groups by clustering method automatically. Then the mean of intensities in the most frequent group is assigned as the background intensity. Multilayer diaphragm has been designed and modeled. Commercial Finite element software, ANSYS was implemented to model the diaphragm. This multi-layer diaphragm can be used as both optical sensor and common sensor. A simplified model is introduced to reduce the CPU time. Characteristics of the multilayer diaphragm have been investigated. The important parameters of the multilayer diaphragm have been optimized to improve the performance of a pressure sensor using APDL macro. © 2012 ieee.
