Sign language is an important communication tool for the deaf. There are two types of Thai sign language, i.e., Thai finger spelling (a signer spells each character using their fingers) and Thai sign language (a signer uses hand gesture and face expression to represent each word). In this paper, we build a dynamic hand gesture translation system with video caption without prior hand region segmentation. In particular, we utilize the upright speed-up robust feature (U-SURF) and the dynamic time warping (DTW) to find a matched word. This Thai sign language translation system was tested on 42 words. The total number of video sequences used in the experiment is 1470. The best correct classification rate for blind test set of signer-dependent is approximately 98% whereas that of signer-semi-independent is around 76 to 79%. The best blind test result for the signer-independent is around 62 to 68%. © 2012 ieee.

The lightness of distributed application processing platform becomes more imperative with rapid proliferation of SMDs and ever increasing demand to utilize SMDs for intensive applications. Lightweight framework aspires for minimum possible overhead and optimal possible resources utilization on SMDs. Traditionally the distributed platform is established at runtime by outsourcing intensive applications partially or entirely to cloud datacenters. Such approaches implant intensive responsibilities of distributed platform establishment and management on SMDs for the entire duration of remote application processing. For that reason computing resources of SMDs are exploited copiously. In this paper we investigate the heavyweight aspects of current offloading algorithms in two different scenarios. First, we analyze the impact of VM deployment for application offloading in simulation environment using CloudSim. Second, we investigate the heavyweight aspects of current offloading algorithms by qualitative analysis. Finally, we propose a novel model for lightweight distributed application deployment in mobile cloud computing. © 2012 ieee.

A vision based automatic pharmacy inventory is an unstructured environment in the sense that a random face of medicine box confronts the camera according to how it is put on shelf. This poses a challenge to traditional image content based object detection algorithms. In this paper we propose a shape-based medicine box localization framework. Instead of using feature point or texture based method which depends on image content, the proposed method adopts a pattern matching scheme, which takes advantage of the object's shape to build a synthetic pattern, for object localization. The superiority of our method lies in three-folds: 1) the proposed method is robust to frontal image content variation and does not depend on single image to make identification and localization;2) the pattern matching scheme is robust to object perspective transform;3) the method is insensitive to noises introduced by clutter environment, such as unbalanced illumination and reflection. To evaluate the proposed method, we test it in the real application environment. Large scale experiment shows the accuracy and robustness of our method. © 2012 ieee.

The practical significance that scientific combat service operation performance evaluation method may improve the aerial defense ability of the army and training efficiency of combat service operation people is described. The combat service operation evaluation index system of surface-to-air missile weapon system is established using Delphi method after knowing well the combat service operation process and the requirements of the combat service operation people. Then FAHP based on analytical hierarchal process and fuzzy integrated evaluation methods is advanced, and take a certain type of surface-to-air missile for instance, its combat service operation performance is evaluated. Through the final evaluation result, it is known that this evaluation method could evaluate the combat service operation performance better, and more objective than other evaluation method. © 2012 ieee.

This paper presents a development of an automatic system for visual inspection of stamped sheet metals. Visual inspection operations in manufacturing processes can be challenging for humans. Human operators have several disadvantages compared to intelligent machines including;subjectivity, productivity, consistency, repeatability, etc. In this study we present an investigation of an automatic visual inspection system to improve some of these deficiencies. Our approach proposes an integrated software system based on machine vision theory that includes: image preprocessing, image segmentation, connected component analysis, region analysis, feature extraction, defect detection, quantification and classification and decision making. Our proposed demonstrated superior efficiency, reliability and stability compared to human subjects. © 2012 ieee.

Considering of the current IP-SAN network link performance bottlenecks and single points of failure, we studied the existing Linux bonding technology. Multi-network Adapter Bonding Technology can improve the speed of access to IP-SAN, and can reduce the link failure caused by a single point of failure. We introduced the existing Linux bonding technology in this paper, proposed and implemented a Multinetwork Adapter Bonding method based on multi-core processors. To evaluate performance of this method, We used Embedded Server based on multi-core processors to do the test, the performance of Linux bonding technology is used as a contrast. According to the test results, the multi-network adapter bonding method which we proposed in this paper, can significantly increase the embedded server to access the IP-SAN speed and flexibility. © 2012 ieee.

As a new technology for WLAN, the WiMAX network provides high speed internet access and supports a variety of types of QoS. Service flows with different priorities are defined. The priority of real-time flow is higher than that of non real-time flow. The delay time is very crucial to realtime flow and every necessary strategy should be provided to increase its value. There are many studies for the scheduling of bandwidth in WiMAX. To make the performance as expected, most of them allocate bandwidth to queues in the unit of byte. Since the allocated bytes for each queue is allocated beforehand for each frame, the last sent data may contain only part of a packet in these protocols. As a result, this packet has to wait for at least one more frame to finish its transmission. In this case, the delay time of this packet may become unacceptable. In this paper, we propose an algorithm which is named the bandwidth adjustment in the last round protocol (BA-LR) can be put after any other scheduling algorithm in WiMAX. After the scheduling of other protocol, the queue will be checked. If the allocated bandwidth for real-time service flow does not fit into an integer number of packets, the allocated bandwidth will be adjusted to correct it. Since the total bandwidth of one frame may have been allocated, the adjusted bandwidth may have to be borrowed from other queue. Therefore, we proposed two schemes for this protocol in this paper. The first one is a protocol that the borrowed bandwidth is never returned. The other contains a mechanism that the borrowed bandwidth should be returned. Both will be simulated and compared. The results show the delay time of real-time flow will be improved with a little sacrifice of non-real-time flow. © 2012 ieee.

Accurate motion sensing is essential for trajectory control of indoor service mobile carriers for realizing smart living. In this work, a modified Wiimote-based 2D localization scheme is proposed and experimentally validated for indoor mobile robots tracking and control tasks. This scheme utilizes one Wiimote to monitor the position of at least two IR LEDs simultaneously for determining both translation and rotation motions of the Wiimote-mounted carrier. An algorithm is developed for converting the Wiimote readouts to the position and orientation of the corresponding mobile unit based on major axes identification, coordinate transformation, and position updating. The scheme and the algorithm are validated by tracking the Wiimote location on a two-axis linear servomotor. Finally, by integrating this global positioning scheme with feedback control, trajectory tracking of an omni-wheel based mobile robot is performed to demonstrate the importance of the scheme in indoor smart living technology. © 2012 ieee.

In this paper an extension of the Java programming language towards multiclock reactive system programming has been presented, called Java-MR. It provides an application programming interface that will realize the modeling, simulating, analyzing and verifying of multiclock reactive systems. In Java-MR the close correspondence of the reactive Java constructs to those of the synchronous language Esterel is given, e.g. clocks, signals and modules. And reactivity is achieved using multithread programming and exception handling. The main feature of this language is that each signal is bound by a clock and all reactive operations are controlled by clocks. In order to more naturally reflect a real reactive system the communication between modules is based on the synchronous communication model, which is different from the instantaneous communication model in Esterel. Further a semantically synchronous/reactive formalism is defined. © 2012 ieee.

A 0-1 integer linear programming model is presented for the assembly line design problem (ALDP) with station paralleling and equipment selection. The presented model overcomes the incompleteness of a well-known model for ALDP by adding new constraints. Due to the NP-hard essence of ALDP, a particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm is proposed. In the PSO, a permutation encoding scheme along with zero in-degree topological sorting is adopted to make the particle correspond to a feasible task sequence (FTS). Then, a graph approach is utilized to identify the assembly line with lowest fixed cost associated with given FTS. To update the particle, a position based crossover operator for permutation encoding is adopted. Case study illustrates the validity of the 0-1 integer linear programming model, and also shows the effectiveness and efficiency of the PSO algorithm. © 2012 ieee.
