In this paper, a modification is done in Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA) where an alpha parameter (α) is modified. This modification is done in order to provide different gravitational constant, G(t) and acceleration (a) to each agent as trying to improve its performance. Then this modified GSA algorithm is tested to see the effectiveness of PID controller in finding the value of K P , K I and K D of an activated sludge process (ASP) system in terms of computational time. These results are then compared with the computational time of original GSA approach and Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) to see the effectiveness of the new approach.

Traditional Malay house design is not the crucial element to be considered under the development planning of Malaysia. It is because the modernization and urbanization in Malaysia is most important thing to get entitle of successful country in a few years. So, this approach was resulting in the disappearance of its own identity in Malaysia. This study is conducted to influence the traditional Malay house design in future development resort to maintain the characteristics of Malay design but at the same time to achieve the title as successful country. The purposed of this study is to determine the spatial planning challenge in conserving the traditional Malay characteristics in resort development at Langkawi Island. This paper presents comparative study between fractional-order PI (FOPI) and PI controller for steam temperature control. Both controllers were tuned using Ziegler-Nichols tuning rules based on identified steam temperature model in FOPDT structure. Simulation studies show the feasibility of using the original Ziegler-Nichols rules in producing significant improvement of FOPI over the PI with the same control parameter. However, overall performances of FOPI are dependent on the fractional-order and minor modification on its low-frequency response is required. This study also proposed a practical solution for the problem by introducing an auxiliary function called as an error filter. Overall performances of both controllers were validated with experimental results that show good agreement with simulations.

Most of the multivariable controlsystems include interactions between different input-output pairs. The control problem becomes more complex in case of significant interactions because single loop control solutions cannot be applied directly. In such cases, reducing the interactions with a pre-compensator can be accepted as the first step of design process. In this study, two input two output systems are discussed and sufficient conditions are derived to achieve diagonal dominance in case of static diagonal controllers. Moreover, a new algorithm is proposed to determine the controller gain regions that guarantees column and row diagonal dominance. Weighting factors are applied for both row and column diagonal conditions to obtain better results. Lastly, controller gain regions are plotted for a given TITO system to verify the effectiveness of the derived theoretical results.

This paper presents a method of detecting and segmenting regions of interest (ROIs) of the thermal image of electrical installations. These regions are very important in diagnosing the thermal condition of electrical equipment. Due to the nature of thermal imaging, segmentation with the conventional approach will make inaccurate ROI detection, especially when qualitative approach is considered in evaluating the equipment's condition. Therefore, we take the advantage of extracting local features to identify, locate, and match multiple repeated objects and grouping a look-like similar objects in the images. Experimental results show that the proposed method achieves better performance for detecting the target ROIs with various irregular intensity variations, dim target equipments and cluttered background. The performance of the proposed method is qualitatively and quantitatively evaluated.

This paper presents a method for two-hand pose recognition based on skeleton information, aiming at the problem of low recognition rate and poor robustness in the field of human-computer interaction by single hand. This method consists of two steps: two-hand positional information extraction and gesture recognition. In the first step, we utilize the Kinect depth image to acquire the position of both hands. The second step is the highlight of the proposed method, it locates the palms by hand nodes, extracts the right hand movement information which is trained by a Hidden Markov Model. This method has been verified by a experimental car controlsystem and demonstrated good robustness in complex background environment.

Many network systems with distributed structure today such as streaming media systems and resource-sharing systems can be modeled as the distributed network service system with multiple service nodes. Admission control technology is an essential way to enhance such systems. Model-based optimization approach as Markov decision process (MDP) is a good way to be applied to analyze and compute the optimal admission control policy that maximizes performance of system. However, due to the "curse of dimensionality", computing such optimal admission control policy for practical distributed systems is a rather difficult task. Therefore, we describe the admission control process of the distributed network service system as a switching partially observable Markov decision process (SPOMDP) with two-level structure. The upper level decides whether to switch the operation mode of system, and the lower level decides to admit or block new service requests. According to the partially observable Markov decision process (POMDP) model, a distributed admission control algorithm is presented which the service nodes in system make decisions without the knowledge of other service nodes. The randomized policy is applied to optimize system performance, and the policy-gradient iteration algorithm is used to compute the optimal admission control policy. Then, an operation mode switching mechanism is presented to detect the change of system and determine the switch epoch of operation mode. Through the numerical experiments, we demonstrate the efficiency of the presented approach.

A traffic light, traffic signal, or stop light is a signalling device that used universal colour system, positioned at a road intersection, pedestrian crossing, or other location in order to indicate when it is safe to drive, ride, or walk. This project is about developing a traffic light system based on Raspberry Pi that can be operated via local area network (LAN). This new concept will enable traffic officer to reconfigure the traffic light timing and also control the traffic manually, The novel idea in this project that the system could be operated remotely using a computer or Smartphone. This novel concept are accomplished by using an affordable Raspberry Pi microprocessor which available in the market and recently becomes very popular for remote monitoring application. From this study we demonstrate how this microcontroller system could be integrated and programmed for online monitoring system such as a basic traffic light as a model or pilot studies However, the same system could also be used for many other applications where online remote monitoring does matter.

The Advanced On-Chip Variation (AOCV) model is used to systematically correct Liberty timing file for on-chip variation (OCV) based on the logic depth and distance of a path. The AOCV analysis solutions can be categorized into graph-based (GBA) and path-based analysis (PBA), which are refinement strategies over traditional OCV in static timing analysis. PBA AOCV performs recalculation on critical paths with advanced algorithm to reduce pessimism. This paper studies the implementation and parameters of AOCV in 20nm process node, specifically with the path-based approach, and compared against the conventional global On-Chip Variation for pessimism reduction. The result indicates that PBA AOCV has advantage over PBA OCV with 9% and 18% reduction in total variation paths and total negative slacks, respectively. By using recalculation algorithm, the path delay is annotated with adequate value of de-rate. Thus, pessimism can be further reduced at a cost of run time.
