People who have suffered a spinal cord injury (SCI) may experience temporary or permanent loss of motor function, sensory function, and autonomic function. Tetraplegia patients are only able to move their upper body parts, such as the head, neck, and shoulder. They require wheelchair assistance to move around for their daily activities. The existing electric wheelchairs, on the other hand, rely on the users' upper arm for control which makes it difficult for the tetraplegia patients to control it. To address this issue, this project developed a control system in which control can be performed by head gesture. A gyro accelerometer is used to detect the user's head gesture. A microcontroller connected to the sensor will read the data and translate it into instructions to control the movement of the electric wheelchair based on the pre-defined head motion patterns. To obtain an average test result of the system's functionality, the system was tested on a healthy adult subject. The average maneuvering error of the trial run using electric wheelchair model on the smooth surface was 3.18cm and an average 5.2cm on the rough tar road surface. Thus, the developed control system can be assumed to be effective in detecting head gesture and that it accurately maneuvers the electric wheelchair according to the head gesture pattern. © 2022 ieee.

The advancement of cybersecurity has called for active effective information security management. Security control (SC) assessment must be empowered to ensure that security implementation is effective and provides expected protection. Lack of comprehensive literature analysis on SC assessment compared to risk and threats assessments are concerning. This research aims to systematically review the trends of SC assessment by identifying, categorizing and analyzing the challenges and available solutions of SC assessment. 34 articles were qualitatively selected with a definite contribution in SC assessment. These articles were reviewed using thematic analysis according to Theme 1: Assessment Challenges, and Theme 2: Proposed Solution. Findings from each theme are systematically categorized to answer research questions. The results of this review are significant in identifying the issues and areas of improvement for future research and can serve as the baseline for SC assessment characteristics. © 2022 ieee.

Cascading methods becoming widely used in practice especially on improving conventional control such as PID. Therefore, to enhancing the capability of cascaded PID control in handling highly nonlinear system, this research proposed a finite-time prescribed performance control with cascaded PID (FTPPC-CPID). The research is focused to cater the nonlinearities and uncertainties of pneumatic rod-piston positioning by considering both its displacement and velocity feedbacks. The pneumatic proportional valve with a doubleacting cylinder (PPVDC) model plant is employed as a targeted plant and comparison studies were done with the conventional cascade PID controller. The results show the proposed FTPPCCPID performing able reduce steady-state errors with fast response and a very minimum overshoot in transient of rodpiston positioning with different trajectory inputs and payload as extrinsic disturbance.

Improving wind turbine efficiency is essential for reducing the costs of energy production. The highly nonlinear dynamics of the wind turbines and their uncertain operating conditions have posed many challenges for their control methods. In this work, a robust control strategy based on sliding mode and adaptive fuzzy disturbance observer is proposed for speed tracking in a variable speed wind turbine. First, the nonlinear mathematical model that describes the dynamics of the variable speed wind turbine is derived. This nonlinear model is then used to derive the control methodology and to find stability and robustness conditions. The control approach is designed to track the optimal wind speed that causes maximum energy extraction. The stability condition was verified using the Lyapunov stability theory. A simulation study was conducted to verify the method, and a comparative analysis was used to measure its effectiveness. The results showed a high tracking ability and robustness of the developed methodology. Moreover, higher power extraction was observed when compared to a classical control method.

In all the closed-loop feedback industrial processes, the measured sensor signal from the field environment is directly fed to the controller for processing. These raw signals contain the unwanted stochastic noise from the surroundings, which affects the process and controller performance. These issues can be rectified by employing a suitable filtering technique, and the feedback loop performance can be improved significantly. Hence, this paper aims to propose set-point and noise filtering usage in the process control loop. The proposed filtering technique is compared with the existing conventional methods and implemented over the real-time pressure process plant for performance analysis. Also, the numerical comparison is carried out in terms of the rise time, settling time, and peak overshoot for validation of the proposed approach.

In this review, different drone detection methodologies based-RF techniques are presented and discussed. Where, the drone RF-techniques are depended on communications signals between drone and its controller for controlling of flying or for video transmission signals. On the bases of these detection methodologies, a lot of researcher proposed different methods to determine the direction of arrival (DOA) of the presence drone in the protected area. Some of these methods have been discussed and compared in this paper. Also, the identification techniques based on drone fingerprint are discussed and evaluated. Finally, a universal comparisons for different methods and techniques are presented for the purpose of present an efficient summary useful for next researchers working in this field, as well as propose a new methodology for both detection and identification of drone..

Nowadays, there is an increased concern for stability improvement in modern electrical systems, especially due to the use of distributed generation into the grids. Stability of power system is one of the main challenges to improve the power system efficiency. A Power system Stabilizer (PSS) is a cost-effective controller and efficient device to increase the stability and reliability of power systems. In this paper, the transient stability of ieee 9-bus system is improved with the integration of excitation system and PSS. The relative power angle is considered to evaluate the transient stability. The simulation results show that the existing system has oscillated. However, when the system is integrated with the exciter ST1A and PSS1A, the peak power angle decreases from 132.1 degrees to 103.7 degrees, and the settling time is 5.53 s. Additionally, the speed deviation is improved when PSS connected to ST1A.

With or without a crisis such as a pandemic, the continuous service of quality healthcare is a necessity for a community to thrive. Given the current problem, the researchers determined that the integration of Availability Management and Events and Monitoring Management Information Technology Infrastructure Library (ITIL) frameworks in a healthcare mobile application to ensure the reliability and effectiveness of the services provided. Hence, the researchers created the LifeDoc: Availability and Monitoring system of Online Medical Consultation that caters to both patients and doctors and is available for Android users only. Technologies such as React Native and WebRTC were used for the development of the mobile application wherein the processing of information occurring throughout the system is stored in a secure cloud-hosted database called MongoDB. The researchers adopted the Agile Methodology approach throughout the execution of the project as this approach was determined by the researchers to be the effective and suitable approach given the time constraints and user requirements. Tests were performed in the system based on the Institute of Electronics and Electrical engineering (ieee) standard for Software Test Documentation to certify that the functionalities of the project were working according to specification. The importance of implementing appropriate service management framework coupled with mobile technology makes quality healthcare accessible and a right for all.

This research introduces an innovative approach to enhance dining experiences through a personalized meal suggestion system. Our method leverages decision tree-based machine learning to predict user preferences by analyzing various attributes. The aim is to assist individuals in making optimal food choices at restaurants, thereby enriching their culinary journey. QR codes are integrated into an Android restaurant application, facilitating convenient access to the food menu. User inquiries are efficiently managed through a MySQL database accessible across multiple platforms, including a Java GUI, an Android app, and a dedicated website catering to both user and administrator roles.

Active Noise control (ANC) systems involve the application of many control engineering concepts which makes them suitable for control engineering education at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The physics involved revolving around destructive noise interference through superposition is easily understood. The complexity of the system can be gradually increased from ideal to realistic cases to meet the required educational levels while introducing important control concepts like feedback and feedforward architecture, nonminimum phase, linearity and nonlinearity, time delay and multivariable systems. The ANC control methods are rich incorporating linear and nonlinear fixed nonadaptive and adaptive control, robust and optimal control, neural network, and fuzzy logic. The systems also enable introduction to deep learning, digital signal processing, and differences between analog and digital electronic systems. In this paper, the main control concepts, ideas, and methods applied in ANC in presented as a series of ‘concept’ to be addressed in control engineering education. Furthermore, this work aims towards translational research where the ideas and approach applicable to ANC may also be beneficial and adopted in other control applications.
