Topology errors can cause significant state estimation error or even divergence of power flow solution, which undermines the reliable operation of power grids. Undetected topology errors lead to dangerous situational unawareness in the control center;for example, an unknown transmission line outage may cause a cascading failure that leads to a rolling blackout. Existing detection methods are based on DC state estimation with residual analysis. These detection techniques use only instantaneous measurement data and require convergence of numerical solution. In this paper, a new approach that utilizes both historical and instantaneous measurement data is proposed to detect topology errors. The key idea is to track the dynamics of the power flow measurements by forecasting the measurements. Topology errors will cause the forecast measurements to be significantly different from the actual measurements. To implement this approach, a time-forward kriging-based load forecasting technique is used to forecast bus load for the next time step. The forecast load is then converted to forecast state through power flow analysis using network parameters stored at the control center. The forecast measurements can be further calculated from the forecast state. Topology errors can be detected by comparing the forecast and actual measurements. The forecast measurement errors are used as input to train Support vector machine (SVM) classifier offline. Several common SVM kernel models are compared to find the most suitable kernel for detecting topology errors. The SVM classifier can be applied in real-time to detect a topology error. The proposed approach is tested on ieee 14 bus system with NYISO load data from Year 2011 and 2012. Our analysis shows that the proposed approach can accurately detect a single-line topology error.

However, it is important to obtain the transfer function as accurately as possible for such systems to be able to provide the desired performance using a controller. If the system has dead-time, the design problem becomes more complicated. This paper presents a new modeling method for under-damped second order systems with an inverse response to overcome the difficulties both in the analysis and design. Besides, a PID controller design in discrete-time domain is also introduced to provide a good performance in the closed-loop. The performance of the proposed modeling and control technique is demonstrated on an example using simulations.

Backlash nonlinearity, caused by physical disconnect of mating gears, becomes a problem in the presence of position or speed mismatch between the sides of the mechanical transmission link. In this paper, switched hybrid model of a generalized system has been used, and all fixed model configuration of multiple model adaptive control has been adopted for position control of elastic system with backlash nonlinearity. A number of different control strategies were suggested availing the inherent architecture of multiple model adaptive control and taking into account the possibilities of sensor locations. All the strategies do not require a priori knowledge of backlash angle, eliminating the need to estimate the angle. The control techniques are compared on the basis of transient response, steady state response, control effort and frequent switching of system modes.

To investigate the complex dynamics and chaos control in airlines' price competition, the dynamic price competition model of airlines with duopoly is established by using the theory of bifurcation of dynamical systems, and the existence and stability of equilibrium points of this model are discussed. The complex dynamics of this model in different market parameters are shown though numerical simulation. The simulation results show that the speed of price adjustment has an obvious impact on the stability of model. Compared with the equilibrium average profits, all airlines' average profits are decreased obviously when chaos is occurred. The dynamic price competition model of airlines can return to stable state from chaotic state by delayed feedback chaos control method while suitable controlling factor is chosen. The analysis and results in this paper are interesting in mathematics and economics.

This paper presents the results in single cell intracellular penetration using the integrated dual nanoprobe-microfluidic system. Current technique for single cell penetration is using a manual controlled nanomanipulator which been attached with a nanoprobe. Due to this, successful single cell penetration depends on the operator skills. We proposed an integrated dual nanoprobe-microfluidic system. The system was being developed to reduce the requirement for skilled operator in single cell electrical measurement. We tested the system function for single cell penetration via finite element simulation. Based on the results, the single cell can be penetrated at fluid velocity of 5.3 mu m/s. Currently, the developed system is suitable for cell viability detection application. However, this system has the potential to be used in single cell thermal measurement, single cell drug delivery, and early disease diagnosis.
