Microfluidic devices are important for the single cell analysis such as cell mechanical and electrical characterization. Single cell characterization could be related to many significant applications including early disease diagnosis. However to perform the single cell manipulation, firstly a single cell have to be isolated and a platform for the cell manipulation have to be provided. One of the methods to trap a single cell is by using hydrodynamic trapping in the microfluidic channel. This study provides a finite element model for single cell trapping for a yeast cell model. The objectives of the simulations are to obtain the appropriate channels' geometry and optimized ratio of the fluid's inlet and suction flow rate to trap a single yeast cell. Trap channel was designed to trap a 5 μm yeast cell with a suction hole placed in the end of the trap channel. Design geometry and ratio of fluid flow rates referring to the hydrodynamic concept were studied for the cell trapping model. The analysis was carried out using numerical solutions from the finite element ABAQUS-FEA software. Using the cell trapping model, a single yeast cell able to be trapped into the trap channel with optimized channel's suction hole's geometry and appropriate fluid's inlet and suction flow rate ratio.

The study of urban poverty using high resolution satellite imagery and environmental data set has been widely used in many countries since early year 2000 to estimate, detect and identify the poor areas. By using remote sensing approach the identification of poor area can be pre-predicted without intensively to go to the ground. Due to high life expenses at urban area in Malaysia recently, the investigation of urban poverty in dense areas becomes much important especially in identifying the squatter and low cost houses which are expected to be settlement for people who are at low level income. This paper is going to discuss approaches being used in our pilot study to determine urban poverty areas which identified by correlation studies on high resolution IKONOS satellite imagery. The expected end result will be verified through multiple analyses via Remote Sensing and statistical approach.

As the coupling between active and reactive power is enhanced along with the expansion of the grid scale and the AC-DC hybrid operation, voltage stability is not only closely related to reactive power, but also related to active power. By the constraints of generator power circle and its operating limits, the mechanism of interaction between the active and reactive power is clarified. Also, the hierarchy structure of coordinated optimization and control technology between them is established, and an improved AGC control strategy consideration to static voltage stability is proposed. By optimizing the active power output of the AGC unit, the dynamic reactive power reserve capacity of each unit is improved and the system voltage is supported. The strategy is verified through a variety of experiments on the ieee-39 bus system.

This paper presents the results of multi-national collaboration during the sea trial held in the coastal waters of La Spezia, Italy, in the period 17 Oct. - 07 Nov. 2012. The trial was performed as one of the objectives of the program which has a goal to achieve the entire chain of Mine Countermeasures (MCM) using unmanned, robotic platforms. The focus of activities in this sea trial was to perform the last events of the mission: reacquisition, identification and intervention using a pair of collaborating underwater vehicles. The trial's objectives were to combine the expertise and robotic systems from different partners and achieve a mission of precise guiding of an inexpensive underwater vehicle to an underwater target using the navigation suite and controlsystem of a more capable underwater vehicle. The objectives were accomplished and the researchers' opinion is that the extension to multi-vehicle cooperation (one leader guiding several agents, or followers) is feasible given the test results.

The ankle, along with the muscles and tendons of lower leg, work together to handle the stress its received while walking, running, jumping and also acts as a pivot for changing direction. The ankles support the entire weight of the body and therefore are particularly susceptible to injury. Ankle injuries usually result of a sudden, unexpected loss of balance, resulting in a sharp, forceful twist or rolling of the ankle beyond its normal range of movement. Muscle or tendon becomes overstretched causing strain. Besides that, those with accident history involving the ankle will also having problem moving their foot normally. Therefore they need to go through rehabilitation exercises which involve slowly moving in ankle part. Some patient may experience difficulty completing these exercises individually without any external help. As a result, “foot rehabilitation monitoring device” are proposed as support equipment for them. This equipment will help them to do the exercise procedure automatically, the same way as a therapist would, helping them to improve their foot movement time for time, until it's slowly recover. This equipment are able to measure the ankle strength of the patients based on the pressure it's received, while user undergoing the procedure. The higher pressure detected means that the user is recovering. This equipment were tested on several people as subject, and the result show that the subject with weight less than 95kg will give the most accurate result.

The passive sonar based target tracking is of great importance in practical applications. In underwater bearings only target tracking research, the traditional extended kalman filtering method uses Tarlor expansion to achieve the system nonlinear terms linearization, and it leads to a complicated computing time and singularity problems. This paper presents a method based on the First Order Divided Differential Filter (DDF1) algorithm for solving the problem. The DDF1 is derived based on polynomial approximations obtained with multidimensional Stirling interpolation formula, the implementation is significantly simpler because of no derivatives is required. The results of simulation and consistency test showed that the proposed algorithm has high tracking precision and tracking performance compared with the traditional EKF method under the same simulation conditions.
