The vehicle handling and stability in emergency situation can be enhanced with direct yaw moment control (DYC). In this paper, a new controller using super twisting technique based on second order sliding mode control (SOSM) is proposed for the yaw moment control. The controller is designed based on two degree of freedom (2DOF) nonlinear model. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is compared to PI controller and conventional sliding mode controller by co-simulations in CarSim and Matlab/Simulink. The results show that the SOSM give better performance in tracking the desired response necessary for the vehicle handling and stability. In addition, the chattering phenomenon is also reduced, giving a smooth tracking trajectory. © 2012 ieee.

Tuning of controller is one of the most basic functions in control engineering in obtaining optimal control parameters and hence achieving optimal dynamic responses of the system. The work presents the self-Tuning PI controller that potential to auto-Tune the controller parameters and adapting the changes in controlled process parameter for a MIMO system. The decentralized PI controller with an adaptive interaction algorithm is developed and tested to nonlinear multivariable wastewater treatment plant. It is aims to self-Tune the PI control parameters in regulating the substrate and DO concentrations from a steady state operating point. It was observed that the proposed control structure and the tuning algorithm were successfully tracks the desired set-point with considerable effects in noisy environment. © 2012 ieee.

Our institution has on-going research projects which utilize autonomous mobile robots in a variety of settings. These robots navigate and interact with humans and their environment. As part of this effort a framework to integrate the navigational operation and the speech interaction to react to contextual stimuli is provided. This framework provides a system which is easy to configure and modify. The basis of this framework blends the rationale of human nature with the interpretation of sensor inputs. This combination of real-time and environmental information is at the core of having situational awareness. Context-based mapping allows the system to learn an environmental context and how to identify it from real-time interaction. Context-based mapping techniques link data prioritized by contextual value to physical locations on a visual or representative map. This system categorizes objects and events in an adaptive way. By determining the appropriate behavior in a given situation, a mobile robot uses only the relevant knowledge and data. This information is stored to allow both historical and real-time data to be used as appropriate. This approach allows the robot to access the previously collected data for statistical reference. As data are collected from various sensory inputs, the weighted contribution in that context is determined. This research examined the deployment of an autonomous mobile robot. The robot was able to function in the environment, which included both indoor and outdoor settings. Speech was used for input and as response explanations by the robot. The robot was trained initially in a supervised mode, but after the heuristics and adjustments had been reached, the robot was able to balance the sensors appropriately and learn without supervision. The result was a robot that could navigate autonomously and respond to the environment appropriately. The optimum proportional(P), integral(I) and derivative(D) constants can be estimated using tangent method and proper tuning rule for process stability. The purpose of this paper is to compare the performance of various controller tuning methods for controlling the process of air pressure control trainer model SOLTEQ SEl2l. The simplest open loop test on actual plant has been performed using a new Reformulated Tangent Method (RTM). The optimum PID value is set to the real plant based on Ziegler-Nichols (ZN), Chien-Hrones-Reswick (CHR) and Chien et. al. (Chien) tuning rules. The PID Tuner software is used to simulate the response to be compared with the real plant response. The plant is connected to a Yokogawa Centum CS 3000 R3 Distributed control system (DCS). The performance of each method is analyzed in term of percent overshoot(%OS) settling time(Ts), rise time(Tr) and integral absolute error(IAE). © 2012 ieee.

Along the last decade, many companies started using Distributed Software Development (DSD). The distribution of the software development teams over the globe has become almost a rule in large companies. However, in this context, new problems arise, which mainly involve the physical and temporal distance among the participants. Some studies show that deploying a version control system to alleviate this problem is a big challenge for distributed teams. This paper presents a systematic mapping study about works about version control that focus on DSD. We found 29 studies related to DSD version control, published between 2002 and 2012. Using the systematically extracted data from these works, we present challenges, tools, and other solutions proposed to version control in DSD. These results can support practitioners and researchers to better understand and overcome the challenges related do DSD version control, and devise more effective solutions to improve version control in a distributed setting.

In this paper, an elementary and simplified control of four digital parallel-connected buck converters was simulated in MATLAB/Simulink. These parallel converters, having the same values of inductances and capacitances but different parasitic resistances, were observed under various conditions of current sharing load and on the total number of active converters. The voltage and current errors of each converter were sampled and fed into a discrete controller to regulate its output voltage. An elementary and simplified control was used to determine which converters will turn ON/OFF during a given current load. Between active converters sharing the load, the average current method was used. In this paper we conclude that an elementary and simplified control of parallel digital converters is feasible and achievable leading to a possibility of a much more enhanced and improved control of digital parallel converters. Simulation-demonstrated results are presented including the static and dynamic loading responses, current sharing error of the parallel system under different conditions and the effective number of bits for each quantizer block. © 2012 ieee

In this paper, the development of a water bath temperature system to control the liquid's temperature in the water bath will be presented. In order to develop the water bath temperature control system, MATLAB fuzzy logic toolbox will be utilized. The Fuzzy Logic controller (FLC) is designed to control water temperature based on the input acquired from the thermal transducer sensor. The inference engines that are used are;Max-min (Mamdani) method and centre of gravity technique for defuzzification. The 4 × 4 matrix rules for the controller will be used in this project. In addition, the USB NI-DAQ card will be used as xPC target to link the MATLAB software and real time application. The real time output temperature is validated based on the simulation's temperature which is initially set by user. It can be concluded the performance of real time study is in par with the simulation result. © 2012 ieee.

Three-stand mills continues produced of multi-layer composite steel plate, multiple L2 servers together computing to complete the tasks, serviced to many models in whole automated production process. In this paper, multi-embedded systems distributed and cooperative control program takes instead of multi L2 server mode, one L2 data collection and record server was remained. An example of rolling force model is used to discuss the control architecture, Sims simplified formula. The experiment and numerical results show that the control architecture is capable of reliable operation, and the accuracy of the target is no less than 94%. © (2013) Trans Tech Publications, Switzerland.

For energy deficit countries, the design of Supervisory control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) based energy management systems for optimal distribution is of high interest. Such design involves development of Remote Terminal Unit (RTU) which is considered as an essential component of any high scale SCADA system and it is functioning as remote field data interface. Considering various generations of SCADA, two different designs of an RTU are proposed for third generation (Networked Approach) SCADA in view of energy management applications. One design includes Programmable Logic controller (PLC) as CPU of RTU and other would involve Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) instead of PLC. This paper results in comparative study of two different selections of CPUs for designing an RTU based on performance measurement. PLC based RTU exhibits limited features where as FPGA based RTU possesses unique features like encryption support, radio support and large memory area. Suitable simulation tools are needed in order to determine the best approach. The main objective of this study is to propose a design outline considering significant parameters that facilitates optimized development and low cost implementation of an RTU, also featured with wireless communication. In addition to the optimized design of an RTU by means of comparative study, a brief discussion on optimization of wireless link for Remote Terminal Unit is also presented. This phase involves detailed comparison among various options considering the RF spectrum for optimal solution. This segment of research results in design of optimized wireless link for the planned low cost Remote Terminal Unit (RTU). A scenario depicting multiple RTUs communicating with one Tele-control Interface (TCI) is discussed to address optimized implementation of wireless SCADA.

ieee 802.16e is a widely used standard for mobile broadband wireless access system and Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) is employed in this system. So, it can perform well in anti-multipath fading and spectrum utilization. But there are also several critical problems, one of major drawbacks of this system is the high Peak-to-Average Power Ratio (PAPR) of the transmit signal. Thus the power amplifier in the transmitter requires a wide dynamic range or to be backed off, to prevent spectrum spreading issued from nonlinear distortion and BER rising issued from in-band distortion. But that will increase the system cost or lead to low power efficiency. This paper firstly gives a brief of some important PAPR reduction techniques for multicarrier transmission, and then proposes a new PAPR scheme for 802.16e Wireless OFDM physical layer by using clipping and tone reservation (TR), and also considering the amplitude scale factor to reduce the computation cost and the system complexity. This new scheme has a very low out-of-band distortion, requires no side information and gains better PAPR performance by sacrificing fewer sub-carriers. At last, the performance of this new technique on PAPR reduction, BER, and spectrum efficiency has been analyzed through simulation derived from MATLAB. Furthermore, the simulation statistics has been compared with other related techniques. © 2013 Springer-Verlag.
