In the paper, we present the design and implementation of a priority-based Smart Home Simulation (SHS) system. The system architecture as well as particular device types used are described with a detailed presentation of the consumption planning and control mechanism. The SHS system is based on the multi-agent approach, where the global consumption control is driven mostly by the inter-agent communication. Unlike other works in this field, the presented communication model is designed to be usable even with low-performance controllers with limited computational power. The low performance of the controllers does not substantially limit the overall planning and control capabilities of the whole system. The theoretical foundations of the main system ideas are graphically presented in a real-world example simulation.

The IEC 61499 standard allows to model and design new generation controlsystems, providing innovative concepts of software engineering (such as abstraction, encapsulation, reuse) to the world of controlengineering. The industrial reception of the standard, however, is still in an early stage, also because its introduction results in the adoption of a programming paradigm profoundly different than the widespread IEC 61131-3. This paper presents a method for the integration of the two standards, that allows to exploit the benefits of both. The proposed architecture is based on the parallel execution of both environments that interact with each other through some specific interfaces. A test implementation of the architecture is also presented to demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed solution.

This is an update of the Space Power Grid architecture for space-based solar power with an improved design of the collector/converter link, the primary heater and the radiator of the active thermal controlsystem. The Space Power Grid offers an evolutionary approach towards TeraWatt-level Space-based solar power. The use of millimeter wave frequencies (around 220GHz) and Low-Mid Earth Orbits shrinks the size of the space and ground infrastructure to manageable levels. In prior work we showed that using Brayton cycle conversion of solar power allows large economies of scale compared to the linear mass-power relationship of photovoltaic conversion. With high-temperature materials permitting 3600 K temperature in the primary heater, over 80 percent cycle efficiency was shown with a closed helium cycle for the 1GW converter satellite which formed the core element of the architecture. Work done since the last ieeeconference has shown that the use of waveguides incorporated into lighter-than-air antenna platforms, can overcome the difficulties in transmitting millimeter wave power through the moist, dense lower atmosphere. A graphene-based radiator design conservatively meets the mass budget for the waste heat rejection system needed for the compressor inlet temperature. Placing the ultralight Mirasol collectors in lower orbits overcomes the solar beam spot size problem of high-orbit collection. The architecture begins by establishing a power exchange with terrestrial renewable energy plants, creating an early revenue generation approach with low investment. The approach allows for technology development and demonstration of high power millimeter wave technology. A multinational experiment using the international Space Station and another power exchange satellite is proposed to gather required data and experience, thus reducing the technical and policy risks. Therefore, the controlsystem reliability must be carried out in the various stages, such as the design, assembly and platform test, and they are constantly perfected and improved in the use process. The reliability model of the system is established on introducing the system form and function frame of the vehicle controlsystem, the fault rate and mean time between failures are calculated by applying the stress analysis method. Software test is finished, and software evaluation model is constructed by comparing difference software evaluation models, such as G-O model, J-M model, Littlewood-Verral model and Musa model. The result of intending can make the designers have completely known in the reliability design of electric circuit, it can provide the science basis to judge the designing project, and evaluation results are consistent with test results from platform, altitude, etc.

In waste water pumping stations, centrifugal pumps driven by induction motors are used to transport the collected effluent to the treatment plants. Those pumps can be controlled either using frequency converters or on-and-off control using soft starters. In this paper a method for modeling wastewater pumping stations using the component oriented modeling language Modelica is presented. The model provides a valuable simulation tool to validate and judge on the different control schemes of these stations. This approach is applied successfully on a real pumping station located at the northern part of Gaza. The derived model facilitates tuning the control parameters and allows better understanding of the system dynamics.
