We present a, maple-package SyNRAC for solving real algebraic constraints aiming to realize a robust parametric control toolbox on MATLAB. Our main tool is real quantifier elimination that enables us to accomplish a parameter space method for many robust control problems.

The classical approaches to teach the controlsystems present drawbacks, such as: (i) the general overview of the problem is sometimes underemphasized by the knowledge acquisition;(ii) they mainly use the academic examples that are only dealing with simple concepts and problems;(iii) laboratory experiments are either simple or under developed. design aspects of controlsystems when applied to practical processes are important to improve the knowledge of the students and to motivate the utilization of modern methodologies as an emergent technology for the applications in industry. In this work, we point out some important aspects for conceiving a new educational product. We describe our experiences in creating a didactic environment for teaching and learning the control theories in Engineering courses based on cacsd (computeraidedcontrolsystemdesign) and its extension to the research field of industrial problems. Two distinct proposals arise from these experiences for reducing the gap between the theoretical and practical classes, and for teaching the controlsystems development cycle using mathematical tools and real plants under the virtual instrumentation concept.

The use of computeraidedcontrolsystemdesign (cacsd) technology for achieving gains in productivity and quality in systems design tools is presented. Graphical models and programming specifications are presented to provide extensive automation support. The neutral software design specifications (NSDS) for the automatic code generation, design and testing are discussed. The tool technology and synthesis approaches for automation are also discussed.
Maple procedures are written to evaluate Hurwitz determinants and to determine the stability of a controlsystem. They also can be used to find the range of system parameters for a stable system. Examples are given.

A general purpose computeraidedcontrolsystemdesign package called SIMART has been developed from the available control theory. Equipped with sound real-time and simulation capabilities, it is intended to serve as a control engineering framework as well as a learning basis for advanced control techniques. As a key feature, SIMART supports a structured approach to advanced control, which greatly simplifies each design step, swiftly leading to feasible controllers. SIMART has already been successfully used for a number of applications, both on industrial and laboratory plants. One of these applications, involving a flexible system, is reported at the end of the paper.

This paper outlines two different approaches to the design of linear time-invariant (LTI) multivariable controlsystems. Both design methods are relatively straightforward to formulate as linear programs (LP) and semidefinite programs (SDP) respectively. The implementation and solution of the corresponding optimization problems is a nontrivial task and requires extensive use of special software tools. After a brief review of the theoretical foundations, the computational difficulties arising in practice are demonstrated and discussed with the help of a detailed example.
