Using a STIRPAT model combined with statistical data of 1988 to 2013, this study empirically analyzes the effect of diverse factors on China's carbon balance. These include economic level, urbanization level, population size, industrial structure, energy intensity, and energy consumption structure. We find that economic growth, population increase, and urbanization advance increase net carbon emissions, whereas industrial restricting, energy efficiency improvement, and energy consumption restructuring reduce carbon emissions. Specifically, economic growth and energy consumption restructuring constitute primary causes of the increase and decrease in net carbon emissions, respectively. © COPYRIGHT SPIE.

This article explores the research and development undertaken as part of a Master's degree in Computer engineering, with a primary focus on enhancing control mechanisms for natural wood drying. While this method is known for its cost-effectiveness in terms of labor and energy, it suffers from slower and unstable drying cycles. The project's objective is to implement an intelligent control system that significantly improves monitoring and recording of humidity levels in each wooden stack. Additionally, the system incorporates the capability to predict humidity based on data sourced from a weather forecasting API. The proposed solution entails a three-layer system: data collection, relay, and analysis. In the data collection layer, low-computing devices, utilizing a Raspberry Pi, measure humidity levels in individual wood stacks. These devices then transmit the data via Low Power Bluetooth to the subsequent layer. The data relay layer incorporates an Android application designed to aggregate, normalize, and transmit collected data. Furthermore, it provides users with visualization tools for comprehensive data understanding. The data storage and analysis layer, developed with Django, serves as the back-end, offering management functionalities for stacks, sensors, overall data, and analysis capabilities. This layer can generate humidity forecasts based on real-time weather information. The implementation of this intelligent control system enables accurate insights into humidity levels, triggering alerts for any anomalies during the drying process. This reduces the necessity for constant on-site supervision, optimizes work efficiency, lowers costs, and eliminates repetitive tasks. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.. All rights reserved.

In this paper, an observer-based control system is presented for the regulation of biomass concentration in bioreactors. The importance of the observer is highlighted by the dependency of the feedback linearising controller on the measurements of biomass concentration. Further, the discrete nature of output substrate concentration is considered and the performance of the system proposed is analysed through a simulation study using Matlab/Simulink. This study is also used to determine the limit on the sampling partition diameter for which the observer and controller designed give satisfactory performance. The implemented observer-based control system showed satisfactory performance both in terms of stability and convergence for given values of sampling partition diameters. © 2020 ieee.

Conical tank process (CTP) is used in most of the industries, namely food processing, chemical, beer production, pharmaceutical, and waste treatment plants. This unit is widely used because of its accurate and thorough mixing capability. Efficient operation of these industries would require control of enormous process variables within their specified bounds. Today, control of large continuous interconnected plant is a challenging task and needs complex control hardware. Although the conventional PID control algorithms are widely used, modern control method such as adaptive control can provide noteworthy improvement. CTP has nonlinear characteristics due to its variable area and control of level has become an exigent task. Most of the industrial process loops are interacting in nature and require enormous control effort to achieve desired level. In order to accommodate changes in process parameters, gain-scheduled PI controller (GSPI) is designed. A major implementation issue of GSPI is design of the switching function to have a smooth changeover in process variable according to the operating point variations. A fuzzy logic system is used to overcome this difficulty. In fuzzy gain-scheduled PI (FGSPI) controller, based on expertise of human operator fuzzy rules are framed, and with the associated reasoning mechanism, the controller parameters are determined. In this paper, the elucidation of proposed FGSPI controller is simulated on a interacting conical tank process (ICTP). A simulated result shows the effectiveness of FGSPI controller in terms of setpoint tracking, disturbance rejection and process parameter variations. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd.

An extreme pH level of the swimming pool water can cause a serious reaction to eye and skin of the users. The existing method for monitoring the water pH level at Seberang Jaya Public Swimming Pool is not efficient enough to monitor the quality of the water as all the processes need to be executed manually. This paper discusses the proposed Smart Water Quality Monitoring system (SWQMS) design, and the evaluation of factors influencing pH value and temperature of swimming pool using DOE and ANOVA statistical tools. The experimental findings reveal that time of day, pool volume and their interaction factors do not influence the pH value however time of day does have an effect on the water temperature of the swimming pool. © 2020 ieee.

Sentiment analysis of both text and images have been widely implemented machine learning application. Facial expression recognition (FER) is a widely known application of sentiment analysis of image data. This application has already been implemented in various industry, but challenges such as the complexities of facial features and different image angle still remain. This project aims to develop a FER system capable of classifying human expressions through facial images using deep learning techniques. A CNN-based architecture was proposed and training using the FER2013 dataset, which is a commonly used facial expression dataset. Overall, the trained model achieved an accuracy of 63.97% through the dataset. The trained CNN model was then employed to develop a web-based prototype of a FER system through Python Flask.

This paper presents the analysis of a multifunctional single phase multi stage grid connected photovoltaic system. Concentrates on the topology study of the photovoltaic module integrated converter's in the power range below 500 W. Module integrated converter (MIC) technology has become a global trend in grid interactive PV applications and may assist in driving down the balance of system costs to secure an improved total system *** this paper fuzzy logic method is presented, MPPT using Fuzzy Logic control has advantages of better performance, robust and simple design. In addition, this technique does not require the knowledge of the exact model of system and it can handle the nonlinearity. Modelling, controller design, simulation study of a grid connected PV system, and the overall configuration of the grid connected PV system is present. © 2013 ieee.

Towards the green transition of modern power systems, a massive deployment of distributed energy resources (DERs) based on renewable sources is required. These DERs are grid integrated through power electronics converters which reduce the commitment of synchronous generators and as a result, the overall inertia of the system. Maintaining the frequency stability in such low-inertia power systems is a crucial aspect for the system operators;therefore, local control schemes are integrated with conventional generators and DERs to ensure fast reaction in case of frequency disturbances so as to preserve system stability. Existing practices for maintaining the frequency stability rely on the response of a local governor controller integrated with the synchronous generators. Some new approaches introduce frequency support services by DERs, by considering the droop control and virtual inertia concept within the inverter local controller. In another approach, wide area control schemes can also be utilized to further enhance the system stability. Such a wide area control scheme is introduced in this work to coordinate the operation of DERs through 5G communication for enabling fast frequency support services. Due to the fast dynamics of a power system, a reliable and high-speed communication is particularly important for the deployment of the proposed method. Therefore, an experimental hardware in the loop setup has been developed to investigate how the communication performance can affect the stability of the power system. Moreover, a benchmarking is implemented to evaluate the frequency stability when local controllers are providing support and when the proposed wide area controller is applied under a different communication infrastructure. Experimental results demonstrate that when a reliable 5G network is used, then a significant stability improvement can be achieved by the proposed wide area controller. © 2022 ieee.

Human Resource Information system (HRIS) as one of the vital information systems at XYZ University, is expected to provide support in accelerating the achievement of XYZ University's strategic goals as a healthy university based on Good University Governance (GUG) through accelerating the provision of relevant, timely, and quality information. However, the management of HRIS is still not in compliance with information security standards, as can be seen from several incidents and the management of these incidents, which are still accidental. The purpose of this study was to obtain a design for HRIS information security risk management. This study uses a qualitative method where data collection is done by interview, observation, and literature review. ISO/IEC 27005:2018 is used as an information security risk assessment, while risk control recommendation uses SNI ISO/IEC 27001:2013. This study resulted in 40 of these risks: 12 High risks, 19 Moderate risks, six Low risks, and three Very Low risks. The results of this study are the design of HRIS's information security risk management at XYZ University.

Facial expression recognition (FER) in an uncontrolled environment presents a formidable challenge in affective computing and human-machine interaction domains. Existing FER models fail to generalize due to the innate expression nature of the intra-class separability and inter-class compactness. Although most state-of-the-art FER research focuses on more advanced frameworks and well-separated discriminative loss functions, further exploration is needed to obtain high-quality expression features. This paper proposes a robust feature enhancement approach for FER by integrating the De-pooling Feature Enhancement and Weighted Exponential Moving Average (WEMA) of Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD). The proposed method utilizes De-Pooling Feature Enhancement to capture and enhance the high-quality expression features, while WEMA of SGD optimizes the training process for improved stability and convergence. Our extensive experimental analysis of benchmark datasets signifies that our proposed method prevails over state-of-the-art methods, achieving superior accuracy performances of 86.43% on FER2013, 94.97% on FERPlus, 94.71% on RAF-DB, as well as 80.62% and 72.90% on AffectNet, of 7 class and 8 class, respectively.
