Electroporation occurs when the electric field is applied and cause the permeabilization of the HeLa cell membrane. It has two type that is reversible electroporation and irreversible electroporation. In this study, it suggests that reversible electroporation may become an important technique in treating cancer. In this study cervical cancer cell (HeLa cell) will be used as a sample for electroporation process. After electroporation process completed, compound extract (Neolamarckia Cadamba Leaves) will be used as anti-cancer within the culture media. This study will demonstrate a new method for cancer treatment via combination of natural compound plus the electric field. The treatment aims to investigate and evaluate the electroporation and compound extract test effect on HeLa cell. By combining this two technique electroporation and absorption of the compound extract on HeLa cell potentially might be a new technique for anti-cancer process treatment. © 2017 ieee.

This paper proposes a T -S fuzzy model-based sliding mode control for permanent magnet synchronous motors(PMSM). Firstly, the PMSM is modeled as a T-S fuzzy singularly perturbed system(SPS). Secondly, the parameter perturbations and local torque changes are taken into account in the design of T-S fuzzy model-based sliding mode controller. In order to reduce the chattering problem, the fuzzy control method is used to replace the discontinuous sliding mode controller. Finally, the feasibility and effectiveness of the proposed methods are demonstrated by the simulation results. © 2018 ieee.

In this work, we propose an extension of parameterized skills to achieve generalization of forward control signals for action primitives that result in an enhanced control quality of complex robotic systems. We argue to shift the complexity of learning the full dynamics of the robot to a lower dimensional task related learning problem. Due to generalization over task variability, online learning for complex robots as well as complex scenarios becomes feasible. We perform an experimental evaluation of the generalization capabilities of the proposed online learning system through simulation of a compliant 2DOF arm. Scalability to a complex robotic system is demonstrated on the pneumatically driven humanoid robot Affetto including 6DOF. © 2018 ieee.

Smart grids aim to dramatically change residential area energy systems by creating active grid interaction. Specifically, renewable energies will play a key role when it comes to handling energy storage systems (ESS) at houses within a Smart Community. This paper presents a novel global control strategy for distributed micro-storage energy system. Each home receives the active and reactive power set-points from the Smart Community Energy Management system (SCEMS), providing energy resources to the community in function of the expected demand and production. Once SCEMS requirements are fulfilled, harmonic current components demanded by the household circuitry are injected according to the ESS available capacity. The proposed approach not only causes a local improvement in the power quality of the demanded current, but also contributes to the global power quality consumption of the community. Experimental tests are conducted using a prototype of the proposed ESS charger, validating the control strategies.

This paper presents the development of a hardware-in-the-loop testbed for a three-bus power grid interfaced with a simulated networked control system (NCS) for studying cyber security threats and their possible impacts on the power grid. The three-bus grid consists of two generator buses, configured as slack bus (constant voltage and angle) and PV bus (constant power and constant voltage), and a load bus (PQ bus). The synchronous generators are driven by dynamometers serving as prime movers, and the field circuits controlled by insulated gate bipolar junction transistor (IGBT) DC/DC choppers. The load bus operates switchable resistors, capacitors, and inductors that are connected to the generator buses through transmission lines. The simulated NCS is implemented on an Opal real-time (Opal-RT) platform, which is a PC/FPGA based real-time simulator that can integrate hardware with software simulations, commonly referred to as hardware-in-the-loop (HIL). In general, HIL setups have the advantage that physical elements under test interact in real time with a simulated model of a large scale system and provide a better insight of performance of both the physical system and the controller. In this HIL experiment, the data acquisition unit (DAQ), and the controller are both implemented on the Opal-RT platform. The controller determines the duty cycle of the pulse width modulated (PWM) signals applied to the gate of the IGBT which controls the voltage applied the generator field circuits, thus producing desired terminal voltages of the generators. Experimental results are presented that show the effects of cyber-attacks on a generator control system. A baseline for the behavior of the three-bus system is first established by operating the generator under various load conditions for which the controller maintains the desired terminal voltage. The article focuses on the design of higher order sliding mode observer-based sliding mode controller for load frequency problems in single area power system. In this article, Exogenous and Brownian white noise as stochastic perturbation along with uncertain load disturbance is considered. In practice, uneven and abnormal disturbance which are often unpredictable in single area power system is taken into consideration. The said design ensures finite time convergence of frequency and area control error under above said disturbances with chattering free control signal. Higher order sliding mode observer estimates all the system states which are difficult to measure or are unavailable. The frequency deviation is found to be within acceptable range under random load disturbance and matched uncertainty confirming robustness of the said design. Further, performance is also observed with power system nonlinearities like generation rate constraints and dead band. The stability of sliding surface is proved theoretically using classical Lyapunov theorem and validated using MATLAB R2013b. © 2018 ieee.

User experience (UX) is a quality aspect of an application that considers the emotions evoked by the system. There are several types of UX evaluation methods, such as scales, interviews, user monitoring, among others methods. However, there is still not enough information regarding if and in which contexts these methods are more suitable. This paper focuses on finding more information about the feasibility of applying scale-Type methods for the UX evaluation in interactive systems. Thus, we carried out a UX evaluation on the Edmodo educational mobile application employing two scale-Type methods: AttrakDiff and Hedonic Utility Scale. These methods were chosen after a selection process applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. The results indicate that it is possible to evaluate the quality of an application at a low cost. However, it is necessary to adapt these methods to provide a more complete report of the UX, allowing users to subjectively report their experiences and, consequently, identify the issues that affected the UX. © 2018 Universitat zu Koln. In this paper, computerized scheme for automatic volume estimation of inflamed gallbladder in ultrasound images has been investigated. Diagnosis of acute cholecystitis at an early stage is an arduous task as the difference between normal shape and inflamed gallbladder shape cannot be visualized in ultrasound images. This paper comes out with an unsupervised machine learning algorithm—tree-seed optimization algorithm tuned radial basis function network for segmentation of gallbladder in ultrasound images. Tree-seed optimization algorithm, which optimizes function and parameters in real values, is a population-based stochastic search algorithm. Prior to the classification, speckle reduction and feature extraction process were successfully used. These features are then used in classification process to define the gallbladder and non-gallbladder regions. The proposed optimized classifier system is evaluated in real-time clinical datasets with cholecystitis and cholelithiasis. The inherent differentiation of the proposed intelligent classifier is analyzed using standard evaluation parameters. Comparison with expert decisions provides further evidence that the optimally tuned radial basis function network has important implications for diagnosis of acute cholecystitis. © Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2018.

Public transportation around midsize educational cities has become increasingly vital as residential and commuter populations continue to grow every year. Our research team proposes a cyber-physical system that monitors the quality of service of the transit bus system around James Madison University (JMU), located in Harrisonburg, Virginia, USA. By utilizing the power of Internet of Things (IoT) devices, such as Raspberry Pi computing devices, it is possible to create a network of smart nodes that collect data on the bus routing efficiency and ridership. Using the collected data and using big data analysis, improvements can be made to bus route efficiency and traffic congestion in Harrisonburg, as well as similar college towns. This paper presents data analysis for the first deployment of the IoT nodes at seven JMU bus shelters, during the Spring 2017. Data stations compile and submit the Media Access control (MAC) addresses and timestamps of wireless devices surrounding the bus stations. This information is stored in a Cloud Storage database that allows for big data analysis and convenient access. In this paper we present the usage of the data collected, modifications to improve both the transit system as well as the data collection methods for future node deployments. Our results show the average passenger waiting times at a sample of the seven bus stations. Route optimization and dynamic changes for the route are discussed. Also, we discuss several concerns on security and privacy related to the collection, transmission, and storage of data in the Cloud (e.g., privacy of the ridership MAC addresses, tracking of a specific bus rider in the system...etc.). Additional security implementation has been suggested to emphasize security and privacy protection. © 2018 ieee.
