This paper proposes an optimization algorithm to regulate energy consumption and powertrain control of a hybrid electric vehicle (HEV). The algorithm is applied on a prototype vehicle manufactured by adding an electric motor to an all-terrain vehicle (ATV). The control system is designed using an embedded micro-controller unit (MCU). The main targets in this study are to improve the electric energy consumption efficiency and to reduce the ICE usage to minimum. The MCU controls the automatic switching between the electric motor and the internal combustion engine of the ATV. Furthermore, the system gives guidance for driver to use the limited resource efficiently at critical energy level. It restricts the driver performance using pulse width modulation (PWM). PWM duty cycle is adjusted to get optimum performance in term of maximizing the travel distance. Various driving scenarios are analyzed in this study. Factors such travel speed, energy level, stop-and-go frequency have been taken into consideration. The experiments showed significant improvement.

Air pre-heater of coal-fired power plant boiler is an important piece of engineering equipment,which is designed to heat air before combustion in furnace with the primary objective of increasing the thermal efficiency of the *** paper presents a mathematical model of heat exchange,which allows for the on-line monitoring of ash fouling in air *** model is built using dynamic heat balance method,in which the cleanliness factor is used to characterize the fouling *** ash fouling model is validated by using the actual data of a 300 MW power plant *** validation results show the effectiveness of the proposed *** can be used for the soot blowing optimization in most coal-fired power plant boiler with air preheaters,not requiring additional special instruments and complex computing systems.

Internet of Things for the Smart Home Environment has been realized through the use of Wireless Sensor Network devices. Bandwidth hungry data such as real-time audio and video are becoming more important for monitoring and security in Smart Homes. TSMAC, a practical implementation of a multi-hop mesh topology real-time ieee 802.15.4-based MAC protocol for Contiki OS was prototyped and studied using the TI CC2530 platform. Results indicate that TSMAC is able to support higher continuous bandwidth data streams of 16.6 kbps compared to the existing CSMA MAC protocol which manages only 3.2 kbps.

Train energy consumption accounts for the largest proportion of total energy consumption in railway systems. Applying the optimal driving strategy is an important way to reduce train energy consumption. In this paper, an efficient numerical approach - control parameterization enhancing technique (CPET) is employed to determine the optimal train driving strategy, which is essentially a problem of optimal control. Using CPET, the train control forces are indicated by piecewise constant function with variable switching nodes. Then, CPET transforms the original problem of optimal train control into a nonlinear optimization problem by considering both the piecewise constant control values on each subinterval and the lengths of the subintervals as decision parameters. Finally, the transformed optimization problem is solved efficiently by using an exact penalty method to handle the train speed constraint and applying a sensitivity approach to obtain the gradient of the cost function. A case study is carried out to demonstrate that the optimal driving strategy obtained by the CPET is more energy-efficient than that obtained by the traditional control parameterization method under same conditions.

The unbalanced grid condition is one of common fault in the power system, the performance of electronic equipment will reduce when the controller designer without considering the unbalanced grid input. The traditional controller design methods of three-phase pulse width modulation (PWM) converter, are based on the instantaneous power model and the double-closed loops proportional integral (PI) controller, where the positive- and negative-sequence current components are controlled separately. Thus, there are eight mutual influenced control parameters need to be tuned, it is a difficult task. In addition, the performance of PI controller will degrade when the working point changes in a large scale. In this paper, a constant frequency current model predictive control (MPC) strategy is proposed for the three-phase PWM converter under unbalanced grid condition. In this strategy, the positive- and negative-sequence predictive current values are calculated by the predictive model and the cost function of MPC is designed, the duration times of voltage vectors are produced directly by minimizing the cost function in each sector and the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) is used, thus the constant switching frequency of system is guaranteed. The proposed method has less control parameters need to be tuned and can realize the accurately and quickly current adjustment under unbalanced grid condition, which is proved by the simulation results.

Dengue incidence prediction models are very important at present as the dengue cases becoming a major health issue in tropical and subtropical countries. Dengue fever is one of the major health related issues as reported in World Health Organization (WHO). In order to curb this problem, it is important for the government to create a predictive system so that precaution steps could be taken. This study builds a dengue incidence prediction model to avoid epidemic using climate models in real time. Data mining techniques such as clustering and multiple regression are used to model the data in order to get the best fitting regression curve. In the next step, a real time adaptive computation software will be developed that could predict the dengue incidences immediately.

The rotor system, as a core component of a rotating machine, has a direct impact on the performance, longevity and stability of the entire rotating machine. In engineering, most of the rotating machinery faults are caused by the bad vibration of the rotor, so the study of rotor vibration characteristics has been a hot issue in rotor dynamics research. However, in engineering applications, processing errors, poor assembly and alignment, gravity deformation, thermal bending caused by unbalanced heat and other reasons will lead to the actual rotor with certain initial bending deformation before the device starting. The vibration characteristics of the rotor with the initial bending will show different characteristics. In this paper, three equivalent calculation methods of initial bending are given in rotor dynamics analysis, and the indirect equivalent calculation method of initial moment is mainly discussed. The forced vibration equation of the initial bending rotor system is given by the lumped parameter method. A combined rotor system of F-class gas turbine is analyzed by three different equivalent calculation methods, and the corresponding different calculation results are compared. The results show that the dynamic results of the rotor with initial bending have a high consistency when applying the model similar to the unbalanced response and the model with indirect equivalent moment established in this paper, which proves the correctness of the model used in this paper. However, the model with direct equivalent moment, although intuitive, is not a suitable solution due to the larger error. The model with indirect equivalent moment established in this paper can be good used to analyze the vibration characteristics of the rotor with initial bending, which can lay a foundation for overall revealing the dynamic performance of the rotor with initial bending in engineering application.

This paper aimed to analyze the effect of electrode spacing and number of electrode fingers of interdigitated electrode (IDE) design for impedance based lard characterization. Two types of interdigitated electrode (IDE) sensor was designed with two different spacing and each type have five different numbers of fingers. Impedance measurement is taken by using precision LCR meter 4285A where the frequency used to measured at 4MHz to 5 MHz. The graph of results show the relationship of impedance, frequency supplied and number of electrode teeth with two differences electrode gap of sensor A and sensor B. It was found that the Sensor A with 50 electrode fingers and width of electrode is 0.5 mm with spacing gap of 0.35 is choosen because higher R squared which is 99.5% compared to the Sensor B with same number of fingers and width but different spacing gap is 0.4 mm has 99.4% of R squared value. This is due to the impedance measurement is more sensitive by increasing the contact surface between the electrodes and the sample under test and the effective electrode area is increased. The data analysis is conducted to quantify and characterize the lard sample. And finally, from this data analysis, the impedance characterization are potential for providing the information about lard detection.

This paper presents an autonomous trajectory planning algorithm for ships or unmanned surface vehicles (USVs) to navigate safely in dynamic environments based on the modified artificial potential field (APF). The algorithm not only addresses collision avoidance (CA) for stationary and moving hazards, but also applies the international Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (known as COLREGS, for COLlision REGulationS). Furthermore, the algorithm is still effective for the USV to prevent a collision once other ships disregard their responsibility under COLREGS. Assumptions, a concise description of the method developed and results of simulated navigational situations are included. The developed solution can be applied in decision support systems on board a ship or in an intelligent Obstacle Detection and Avoidance system.
