This paper presents a cell-based architecture with fault tolerance control unit. The main features of proposed model are a control unit can be used to take control over neighbor functional units when neighbor control units failed. In the approach considered a cell to be control layer and functional layer. A functional unit in the functional layer is used to perform operations of cells and support repairing and detecting faults in the control layer. A control unit in the control layer can be used to detect and repair faults in other control units in the control layer and its functional unit in the functional layer. Therefore, this strategy can take advantage of the internal resource. This paper shows how the model can be used to repair a control unit fault and a functional unit fault. The reliability analysis shows the improving fault tolerance of this model.

Most of the multivariable control systems include interactions between different input-output pairs. The control problem becomes more complex in case of significant interactions because single loop control solutions cannot be applied directly. In such cases, reducing the interactions with a pre-compensator can be accepted as the first step of design process. In this study, two input two output systems are discussed and sufficient conditions are derived to achieve diagonal dominance in case of static diagonal controllers. Moreover, a new algorithm is proposed to determine the controller gain regions that guarantees column and row diagonal dominance. Weighting factors are applied for both row and column diagonal conditions to obtain better results. Lastly, controller gain regions are plotted for a given TITO system to verify the effectiveness of the derived theoretical results.

This paper presents comparative study between fractional-order PI (FOPI) and PI controller for steam temperature control. Both controllers were tuned using Ziegler-Nichols tuning rules based on identified steam temperature model in FOPDT structure. Simulation studies show the feasibility of using the original Ziegler-Nichols rules in producing significant improvement of FOPI over the PI with the same control parameter. However, overall performances of FOPI are dependent on the fractional-order and minor modification on its low-frequency response is required. This study also proposed a practical solution for the problem by introducing an auxiliary function called as an error filter. Overall performances of both controllers were validated with experimental results that show good agreement with simulations.

Fractional-order PID control is currently an emerging control technology. Its overall performance had been proven to be better than PID in many applications. Currently, researchers are looking towards combining the fractional-order PID with fuzzy to make it become a self-tuning fractional-order PID. This research had successfully developed a self-tuning fuzzy PI that has been evaluated on a steam distillation process. The proposed fuzzy structure had produced better performance compared to PI, fractional-order PI and self-tuning fuzzy PI. © 2014 ieee.

This paper describes the design of a Proportional Integral (PI) compensator for a nominal characteristic trajectory following (NCTF) controller that based on practical stability limit. NCTF controller is a control system that has simple structure and easy design procedure in order to achieve good performance in both point-to-point (PTP) motion and continuous motion (CM). NCTF control system consists of a nominal characteristic trajectory (NCT) element and a PI compensator. In order to ensure the stability of the system with NCTF control, the PI compensator is designed based on practical stability limit. The practical stability limit is determined experimentally with the proposed procedure. The PI gains are selected from the stable region of the practical stability limit. In this paper, the selection of different PI compensator under the practical stability limit is discussed. A ball screw mechanism is used to clarify and examine the positioning performance of the NCTF control system with four pairs of PI compensator that under stable region and one pair of PI compensator that outside of practical stability limit. The experimental positioning results proved the high positioning performance of the ball-screw mechanism with NCTF control that using PI compensator under the stable region.

Model reference adaptive system (MRAS) is one of the popular methods to observe the speed and the angle information of the Permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM). This paper proposes a new adaptation scheme for MRAS to replace the conventional PI controller based on Popov Hyperstability theorem. In this project, the speed of PMSM is controlled by using field oriented control (FOC) method and the MRAS is used to observe the speed and the rotor position of the motor. The reference model for the MRAS is the PMSM itself while the adjustable model is the current model in the rotor reference frame. The Sugeno Fuzzy Logic Inference system (FIS) is implemented in the adaptation scheme in order to tune the error between the reference and the adjustable model. The new proposed method shows it is capable to track the motor speed efficiently at wide range of operating speeds. © 2014 ieee.

Electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA) system has become one of the most prominent actuator in the past decades. Therefore, it is crucial to attain structural insight into the characteristics of the particular system. This paper presents system identification of EHA system using non-recursive or offline technique where the mathematical model is determined first by considering fixed supply pressure and load. Then, load variation is demonstrated to evaluate the parameter changes. Lastly, supply pressure is changed in order to show the significant effect in the model parameters. The finding shows that the load variation produces insignificant effect in the model parameters due to the limitations of the developed EHA system workbench. However, the supply pressure shows significant effect in the plant model parameters. As conclusion, the robustness and adaptability assessment in the controller design might be appropriately observed in future research works by using the supply variation for the existing EHA system workbench.

This paper presents the parameter optimization of the fuzzy logic controller (FLC) for the Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES)-assisted elliptical stepping exercise. The FLC is used to control the cadence of the elliptical stepping exercise for smooth exercise movement. Genetic algorithm (GA) and particle swarm optimization (PSO) are used to optimize the parameters of the FLC. Both algorithms are implemented in Matlab and simulated with the dynamic model of the elliptical stepping exercise. In the performance analysis, the GA has faster convergence compared to the PSO where both converged at 40th and 51st iterations, respectively. The root mean square error (RMSE) for the GA and PSO are 7.873 rpm and 7.087 rpm respectively showing that the PSO has better performance in terms of the RMSE. Both techniques also have shown good performance in stepping cycle completion. The use of the GA and PSO had led towards more efficient FLC control for the FES-assisted elliptical stepping exercise.

This paper presents the tuning of PID control parameters for position feedback control of motor and the position reference design for grasping task by a 7-degree of freedom (DOF) three-fingered robotic hand. The system of the robotic hand consists of DC-motors, magnetic encoder and a motion controller unit. The robotic hand has three fingers where each finger has two joints and two links made of perspective plastic material. The PID tuning is implemented to all six motors that are used to move all joints of the three fingers. Trial and error method is used for tuning the parameter of PID control to improve the transient response performance of the motors. For the position reference design, a set of position data is identified to produce the grasping trajectory for all finger joints. The trajectory for the robotic hand performs two types of finger configuration for grasping two different shapes of household solid objects. Both works were implemented via programming in Motion Manager Application. It has been observed that the robot hand has performed well with the tuned PID parameters by reducing the overshoot, rise time (T-r), peak time (T-p), settling time (T-s) and steady state error (e(ss)). Besides, the robot hand has also succeeded the grasping task with the proposed position reference trajectory.

This projects describes about a grid connected three-phase, single-stage photovoltaic (PV) system using fuzzy controller with Capacitor assisted extended boost qZSI topologies (CAEB qZSI). This new scheme has higher efficiency and simple power electronic converter topology compared to two-stage PV system. The control objectives such as maximum power point tracking (MPPT), synchronization with grid, current control, and harmonic reduction in output current are realized in only one stage. A grid connected PV system with MPPT and reactive power injection capability into the utility grid is achieved using grid synchronisation. Park's d-q transformation technique is used by using filtered three-phase grid voltage for current controlling. To regulate the DC-link voltage a modified voltage controller using feedback linearization scheme with feed forward PV current signal is proposed. Reactive power feeding into the grid is also realized. To perform several simulations, MATLAB R2013b software environment is used.
