Unmanned aerial vehicles are very attractive to industrial practitioners due to their high maneuverability and ability to perform vertical take-off landing. The accuracy in altitude and yaw movement control become vital for vertical take-off landing. This paper examines and compares the ability of a second order sliding mode controller in altitude and yaw tracking control of a quadcopter against the traditional proportional-derivative controller. Both controllers were designed and numerically analyzed on a mathematical model of a quadcopter. Two types of input were generated, namely;slow-rate input in which only one set point was set, and fastrate input in which more than one set point was set. Both inputs were injected into the system respectively and both controllers were evaluated and compared in terms of maximum overshoot, settling time and root-mean-square tracking error. Simulation results showed that second order sliding mode controller outperformed traditional linear controller in all considered performance indicators for both hovering and yaw motion control. A reduction of more than 80% has been achieved in terms of maximum overshoot. The chattering effect was reduced by using logistic function. The effectiveness of this controller would promote its application in real-time due to its great control performances compared to standard controller.

In boiler control system, water level is regarded as an important process control parameter to ensure that the boiler could function efficiently. PID controller is the most used controller in controlling the water level. However, conventional PID is unable to control efficiently for the process that have high nonlinearity and high sensitivity. In this project, fuzzy logic controller plus PID control was introduced to the water level control in boiler system. The controller named as self-tuning fuzzy PID (STFPID) controller was proposed in this project to overcome the problem occurred. The controller is implemented in MATLAB and simulated in SIMULINK to analyze the performance analysis between conventional PID controller, FLC and STFPID controller. These controllers will be comparing their performance in terms of system response that includes percent overshoot (% OS), settling time (Ts) and rise time (Tr). Based on the analysis, the STFPID controller produces better performance than the PID and fuzzy logic controller in term of rise time, settling time and overshoot.

The AC-AC converter is a device commonly used in the industrial sector today due to its ability to convert AC power at high frequencies. However, despite its widespread use, the AC-AC converter faces challenges in providing a smooth output. A major issue is the high Total Harmonic Distortion in voltage (THDv) at the output, which negatively affects system performance. This study proposes an improved solution by replacing the Silicon-controlled Rectifiers (SCRs) with two bidirectional exclusive switches. These switches offer better controllability, faster response times, and lower switching losses compared to SCRs. When integrated into the AC-AC converter topology, they lead to a significant reduction in THDv, achieving 0.96% for a duty cycle of 30% under single-stage DC modulation, and 2.28% for the same duty cycle under double-stage DC modulation. Both modifications result in a smoother output waveform.

In the modern age, the idea of the E-government has attained a lot of attention due to its impactful benefits and advantages in achieving the significant goals of the country. The E-government systems play a vital role in facilitating the government’s duties and responsibilities along with the citizen’s interaction and participation. Despite the availabilities of the various studies on the E government, there is still a need to review the previous related literature and combine the issues emerging out of it such that an appropriate system is built incorporating the right blend of AI, social media, and public dissemination of the services. This type of guidance is required in many countries including Oman. The aim of this review is to provide the recent studies that have been done in similar areas focusing on providing the approach and the framework deployed to help build a model for Oman’s e-government systems endorsing social media in its delivery.

Examining one’s client status in depth, also known by its acronym “Know Your Customer” (KYC), raises a significant problem that needs to be addressed thoroughly. As a result of this, the current paper examines the dynamics of client status and utilized “Blockchain Technology” to developed KYC. Since earlier research was lacking in its capacity to establish a KYC system, which is utilized in the financial sector, principally by banks, to collect information mandated by law regarding their customers in order to provide access to financial services, it is important to note this deficiency. The existing system makes use of databases that are hosted on servers operated by private corporations or by organizations that have their own infrastructures. Traditional KYC systems come with several potential drawbacks, including a single point of failure (SPOF), tedious and time-consuming processes for customers, and high costs to construct one’s own KYC identification and verification system. The aim of this project’s proof-of-concept is to mitigate the effects of the identified issues through the utilization of blockchain technology. The system’s ability to facilitate the data gathering and verification process was enhanced by the provision of previously registered KYC data by individual users through a single click, as well as the cross-checking of KYC data by bank users to verify their users’ information.

This research introduces a novel approach to software development risk management using machine learning. This approach is based on the analysis of historical data from previous software projects to predict and mitigate the risks in future software development efforts. This machine learning model considers various factors such as the size of development team, project complexity, software budget, and the other required factors to provide more accurate risk assessments and support the decision-making process to achieve an acceptable level of software quality development. The implementation and benefits of using a machine learning model for software development risk management are discussed, including improved efficiency, reduced risk, and increased predictability. The model is trained and showed good results. This article also highlights the potential challenges and limitations of the proposed approach and suggests areas for future research and improvement.

The electrohydraulic actuator (EHA) system is widely used in the current industry applications mainly due to its advantages on high power to weight ratio, precise positioning with fast motion and capability in generating great torque. However, the EHA system is difficult to control especially on position tracking as it has a highly nonlinear system due to many uncertainties parameters such as leakage, friction, pressure, and temperature of fluid. In this paper, the effects of mass variation on position tracking performance of closed loop EHA system with the presence of high servo valve leakage flow condition at short-range displacement of the spool is presented. Firstly, the EHA system is modelled by using MATLAB/SIMULINK. Then, the simulations for position tracking performance on the closed loop EHA system with the variation of servo valve leakage flow are conducted. Furthermore, a proportional integral derivative (PID) controller is proposed and the effects of mass variation on the closed loop EHA system under the presence of high servo valve leakage flow is investigated. A square wave input is used as a reference input for the simulation and graphical form results are obtained. The results show that the closed loop EHA system has high steady state error (SSE) with the increasing of servo valve leakage flow and the high leakage flow presence on closed loop EHA system with high mass has faster response and low SSE. In conclusion, the performance of closed loop EHA system to reach the desired tracking point is undoubtedly decreased when the leakage flow is increased and the closed loop EHA system with higher mass has faster response and highest performance to reach the desired tracking point.

High-value assets are prime targets for theft. Mitigating the losses associated with such theft requires swift detection, accurate identification, and real-time response. This research proposes an anti-theft system employing active RFID technology to automate the process of tracking, comprising RFID tags and readers. The study evaluates the system’s performance in a real-world environment by adopting Design of Experiment (DOE) and Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), focusing on key factors influencing throughput and communication range. The analysis revealed that baud rate and frame size were significant factors affecting throughput, with frame size having a stronger influence than baud rate. In evaluating communication range, power level and obstruction were the primary factors impacting read range performance, with power level exerting a greater influence than obstruction. The findings of this study provide guidelines for optimizing the deployment of RFID-based anti-theft systems.

Oxygen saturation (SpO2) is a critical parameter used to measure the amount of oxygen bound to hemoglobin in the bloodstream. Continuous monitoring and accurate records on the patient’s SPO2 are crucial to assist doctors in assessing the effectiveness of treatment and the need for supplemental oxygen. Therefore, this project proposes the development of a pulse oximeter device using dual RFID communication to enable continuous, real-time, and wireless data recording. The reading of SPO2 can vary in various situations. The evaluation to investigate significant factors that could affect the accuracy of SpO2 readings is carried out using the Design of Experiment and Analysis of Variance. The statistical analysis showed that the types of fingers and nail substances are the main factors that influence the accuracy of SpO2. The main effect plot shows that the SPO2 reading on the nail with oil substance and thumb gives the highest accuracy compared to other types of substance and types of fingers, respectively.

Facial expression recognition is useful for many things, including human-computer interaction and emotion analysis. For the purpose of recognizing different facial expressions, we present a Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and a Support Vector Machine (SVM) classifier in this research. Using a large-scale dataset, experiments confirm that the proposed system is effective at using the CNN-SVM model for recognizing seven distinct facial emotions (neutral, angry, surprise, fear, sorrow, disgust, and happy). The experimental findings were very reliable, with high F1 scores and excellent precision across a variety of memory and precision metrics. All classes of facial expressions are accurately interpreted by the algorithm, although the 'Angry,' 'Fear,' and 'Happy' classes do very well. The CNN-SVM model demonstrated its viability in real-world settings by achieving an overall accuracy of 98.06%. With an F1 score of over 97.80 percent, it's clear that the system can recognize a broad variety of emotions. Emotion identification in HCI, sentiment analysis, and content recommendation systems are just few of the areas where these findings highlight the value of the CNN-SVM paradigm. © 2023 ieee.
