Backlash nonlinearity, caused by physical disconnect of mating gears, becomes a problem in the presence of position or speed mismatch between the sides of the mechanical transmission link. In this paper, switched hybrid model of a generalized system has been used, and all fixed model configuration of multiple model adaptive control has been adopted for position control of elastic system with backlash nonlinearity. A number of different control strategies were suggested availing the inherent architecture of multiple model adaptive control and taking into account the possibilities of sensor locations. All the strategies do not require a priori knowledge of backlash angle, eliminating the need to estimate the angle. The control techniques are compared on the basis of transient response, steady state response, control effort and frequent switching of system modes.

The use of active control to get better characteristics of unsteady internal and external flows is the ultimate goal of the research presented in this paper. Usually, unsteady flows are calculated using Euler and/or Navier-Stokes solvers. The efficiency of numerical simulation of an unsteady flow dramatically increases if the unsteady solution is a small perturbation about a steady-state flow, due to disturbances occurring at the boundaries of the flow domain. The main difficulty related to the flow simulation is that any CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) technique generates discrete systems with a very large number of states. In order to design an efficient control, the flow solver must be not only accurate and numerically effective, but also it must have a low number of states. The aim of this paper is to present a new method for model reduction of CFD systems using representative governing equations. The focus is on descriptor type systems resulting from the spatial discretization of the CFD governing equations.

Economic losses due to seismic structural damage are growing up due to urbanization, civilization, etc. Recently, quantitative evaluation methods for direct and indirect seismic structural damage have been increasingly studied. A Hazus system developed by the FEMA provides a methodology that can predict direct and indirect economic seismic losses of various building types using probabilistic approaches. Based on the Hazus system, an Earthquake Disaster Response system (EDRS) has been developed in Korea considering the unique characteristics of domestic buildings and seismic environment of Korea Peninsula. This paper presents the methodology that can calculate direct economic losses resulting from structural damage due to earthquakes potentially occurring in Korea Peninsula. This study explains the process computing direct economic losses causing from structural seismic damage and then presents how to obtain data required for the process and how to manage the obtained data. Finally, low-rise steel moment-resisting buildings is selected as an example in order to specifically present a stepwise process for the calculation of direct economic losses due to structural seismic damage.

This paper deals with passivity based control of a cart, which can moves on a skew plain. On the cart a non actuated pendulum is assembled. Therefore, the mechanical system is non-linear, one degree under actuated and instable. The equation of motion is derived by the method of Lagrange. The goal of the control strategy is to stabilize the cart and the upper position of the pendulum. The applied control strategy is called Interconnection Damping Assignment Passivity Based control (IDA-PBC). This method allows a physical approach with a simple proof of stability having appropriate Lyapunov function on hand. The simple proof of stability is an advantage of this theory. However, the proof of stability is fulfilled, challenging partial differential equation have to be solved to get the control law. Measurements results are presented.

Now, organizations are required to comply with existing privacy protection regulations on data collection, use, and disclosure. Privacy preservation in a data-sharing computing environment is becoming a challenging problem. The core part of privacy protection is purposes for and circumstances under which the data can be accessed. It must be ensured that data can only be used for its intended purposes, so the access purpose should be compliant with the intended purposes. In this paper, the role-based access control (RBAC) model is extended to incorporate the notion of purpose. Relationships between purposes are defined. It is investigated that how different components in the RBAC model are related to purpose and how the purpose information can be used to determine whether a subject has access to a given object. The model can suit for applications consisting of static and dynamic objects, where both access purpose and intended purpose are needed for consideration before granting access.

In this paper, we propose a seven-link passivity-based dynamic walking model, in order to further understand the principles of real human walking and provide guidance in building bipedal robots. The model includes an upper body, two thighs, two shanks, flat feet and compliant joints. A bio-inspired central pattern generator (CPG)-based control method is applied to the proposed model. In addition, we add adaptable joint stiffness to the motion control. To validate the effectiveness of the proposed bipedal walking model, we carried out simulations and human walking experiments. Experimental results indicate that human-like walking gaits with different speeds and walking pattern transitions can be realized in the proposed locomotor system. © Springer international Publishing Switzerland 2014.

In this system, the electromagnetic proportional valve is the actuator, and the valve controlled motor is controlled object, and the speed sensor is the feedback element, to send out the orders by industrial computer, to control the motor output speed by controller. According to the principle of the circuit and fluid mechanics, set up the mathematical model of the valve controlled hydraulic motor variable fertilization system. PID parameters tuning of system were performed by Ziegler-Nichols method, get the coefficient of increment algorithm. The step response of P, PI and PID of variable rate fertilization the system were studied by MATLAB/ SIMULINK, results show that: PID algorithm system, the overshoot was small, setting time was short, the number for oscillations was little compared with the P algorithm and PI algorithm, the dynamic performance of the system is excellent. The laboratory experiments results showed that: In the process of system operation, PID algorithm tracking speed was rapid, and steady-state error is smaller. Therefore, the electrohydraulic proportional variable fertilization system with PID algorithm has good dynamic performance and steady state performance, and can meet the requirements of variable assignment. © IFIP international Federation for Information Processing 2014.

To investigate the complex dynamics and chaos control in airlines' price competition, the dynamic price competition model of airlines with duopoly is established by using the theory of bifurcation of dynamical systems, and the existence and stability of equilibrium points of this model are discussed. The complex dynamics of this model in different market parameters are shown though numerical simulation. The simulation results show that the speed of price adjustment has an obvious impact on the stability of model. Compared with the equilibrium average profits, all airlines' average profits are decreased obviously when chaos is occurred. The dynamic price competition model of airlines can return to stable state from chaotic state by delayed feedback chaos control method while suitable controlling factor is chosen. The analysis and results in this paper are interesting in mathematics and economics.

This paper presents the results in single cell intracellular penetration using the integrated dual nanoprobe-microfluidic system. Current technique for single cell penetration is using a manual controlled nanomanipulator which been attached with a nanoprobe. Due to this, successful single cell penetration depends on the operator skills. We proposed an integrated dual nanoprobe-microfluidic system. The system was being developed to reduce the requirement for skilled operator in single cell electrical measurement. We tested the system function for single cell penetration via finite element simulation. Based on the results, the single cell can be penetrated at fluid velocity of 5.3 mu m/s. Currently, the developed system is suitable for cell viability detection application. However, this system has the potential to be used in single cell thermal measurement, single cell drug delivery, and early disease diagnosis.
