In this paper, a series of system-theoretical issues in the frame of a traffic systems engineering are comprehensively addressed and discussed with a particular focus on a nonlinear dynamics perspective. Transportation systems are complex (systems of systems) nonlinear dynamical systems and their comprehensive engineering does involve amongst others the following steps: modeling/identification, simulation, system-state observation/measurement, and control/optimization. The particular message of this paper is that a significant improvement can be reached on each of these fronts, while compared to most related traditional approaches, by involving a series of adapted/optimized methodological instruments inspired and/or taken from the broad area of nonlinear dynamics, which also includes neuro-computing. For each of the above-cited steps, related limitations of most traditional approaches are presented. To finish, a selection of own novel contributions on each of the steps are shortly presented for illustrative purposes.

In this study, we introduce convergence technologies of agriculture and USN (Ubiquitous Sensor Network) technologies for collecting and controlling plant growing status according to microclimate around plants. In order to optimize the greenhouse cultivation environmental control, greenhouse operating system gathers greenhouse environment information from various sensors and provides appropriate control functions using various actuators. With this viewpoint, we develop greenhouse operating system using standard communication protocol, it can collect information and control microclimate effectively through several greenhouse control gateway. The developed greenhouse operating systemcontrols automatically microclimate inside greenhouse based on farmer's experience. In the future, we expect that the proposed greenhouse operating system will be effective for collecting environment data of various types of greenhouse and the farmer can set different desired microclimate levels depending on certain conditions using greenhouse operating system.

This paper proposes the development of a cloud computing based intelligent manufacturing scheduling system (CBIMS) using the quality prediction method. A CBIMS continuously builds up many different production line layout modes. We use the cloud database for scattering and storing data, and the scheduling engine contains a sequence score system of products, an optimized layout system., and a monitoring system for all available resources. The results show the advantages, including low cost, good quality, production fluency, and flexible management.

Feedback control theory has a long history. Real time computingsystems integrated with feedback control theory are more robust against internal and external disturbances. Classical scheduling algorithms especially: Rate Monotonic and Early Deadline First cannot achieve the optimal possible Quality of Service (QoS) level that features real time constraints and requirements. In order to cope with the dynamic workloads and resource constraints, control scheduling co-design is very advantageous. control scheduling co-design takes into account both the control techniques and the real time computing aspects simultaneously at design level. Unfortunately, over the past few years, there is no or a very small amount of work is done on the practical side. That's why only a few real time systems, having feedback based control scheduling implemented, are actually deployed. This paper presents a case study of integrating feedback control scheduling algorithm for crane controlsystems to provide QoS in terms of system performance and resource utilization.
