Quadrant change is controlled by multiple residue sign test 2) the sign of the curvature controls the direction of motion It is an 8- way stepping incremental algorithm, and the bet- fit criterion is based on midpoint calculations. Like the previous algorithms, only additions and sign tests are used in the main loops.

Advance three-dimensional (3D) scanning devices can create very detail complex 3D polygonal models. though the random access memory (RAM) and parallel computing in graphics card are enormously improved, many modelers still confront with intricacy of slow computing due to exponential increase of number of polygons for realistic look of surface models. In this paper, a simple and fast triangular mesh simplification method based on half-edge collapsed scheme is proposed. the Euclidean distance of each triangle edges and the disparity between two adjacent triangles are computed for decimation validation. the to-be-collapsed vertices and edges are conducted in priority queue data structure. the empirical results show that the proposed simplified model shape is well-preserved and is computation efficient. Two existing popular methods (FMLOD and FSIMP) are to be compared withthe proposed method and the result demonstrates a rational outcome and is comparable in visual quality.

this special section presents expanded versions of three of the best papers from the 11th Annual ACM SIGGRAPH/Eurographics Symposium on computer Animation (SCA 2012), which was held in Lausanne, Switzerland, from 29-31 July 2012. SCA has established itself as the premier conference dedicated specifically to innovations in the software and technology of computer animation. SCA 2012 received 80 submissions and each submission was reviewed by at least three members of the international program committee. After a thorough online discussion, the 72-member international program committee decided on the 27 full papers and nine short presentation papers accepted for the final program. Out of 27 full papers, the symposium's Best Papers Award Committee selected one best paper, two runner-ups, and four honorable mentions. the selection was informed by the original reviews and the conference presentations. We are delighted to present three out of the six very best papers of SCA 2012 invited for this special section. Each of the invited papers contains a minimum of 30 percent new material and received at least three reviews, including one reviewer not among the original SCA reviewers.

In this paper, we proposed a novel feature refining method for object tracking using vectorized texture feature. Our contributions are three-fold: 1) an statistical discriminative appearance model using texture feature was proposed. 2) majority of dimensions of the features are removed by judging their errors of the chosen distribution model. the remaining dimensions are most discriminative ones for classification task. the dimension reduction has advantages of reducing the computational cost in classification stage. 3) an adaptive learning rate was proposed to handle drifts caused by long term occlusion. Experimental results are satisfactory and compared to state-of-the-art object tracking methods.

this paper presents an efficient method to approximate a rational Bézier curve by the corresponding Non- Rational Bézier curve using Progressive Iterative Approximation (PIA) withthe algorithm efficiency analysis. the proposed method samples the input curve into data points and uses a PIA algorithm to calculate new control points for the nonrational curve. the experimental results show that the proposed method has less computational complexity, which yields less computational time, than other methods which approximate the curve using power basis or monomial form conversion. this work also presents the method to find the appropriate degree of the output non-rational curve for each degree-n rational curve input.
